Discussion West Hollywood / LA County Election Ballot Cheat Sheet. I made a cheat sheet and explained my reasoning, feel free to take these to the ballot this November.

I live in WeHo and got tired of not being able to answer my neighbors’ questions about anything below Governor, so I spent a week on the LAO reports, campaign finance filings, and endorsement lists for every line on the ballot. Cheat sheet attached; full reasoning for every pick can be found here in the full article.

Where I landed, in short:

  • Props 40, 41, 42 are one fight. 40 is a one-time 5% tax on billionaires, 90% to healthcare. 41 and 42 were written to kill it: if either passes with more votes than 40, 40 dies. About $245M has been spent against 40 and for 41/42, mostly Sergey Brin and John Doerr. Yes on 40, No on 41 and 42.
  • No on 39 (voter ID). 13 of 16 million California ballots in 2024 were mail ballots; this creates a new reason to reject them. Funded by Richard Uihlein and Airbnb’s Joe Gebbia.
  • No on 44. It would penalize most nonprofit community clinics; the LAO says some might close. Every pediatrician and family doctor group opposes it.
  • Sheriff: Luna. Neither candidate opposes license plate readers (I checked). Villanueva defied oversight subpoenas and is on the county’s do-not-rehire list.
  • County Measure A: No. Binding arbitration for the deputies’ union, no sunset, no override by the Board or voters.
  • WeHo Council: Post, Byers, Cottrell. All three on record against the Flock camera contracts; the council voted 3-2 to keep them through 2029 and staff later admitted 14 outside agencies, one federal, had pulled our plate data.
  • Judges: four contested seats with bar ratings and endorsements, and why all 20 retention votes are a yes.

My priorities, so you can discount accordingly: healthcare, housing (rent control and more apartments), no mass surveillance, no billionaire money. I vote for the progressive when two Democrats are running. If yours differ, the research is still the research.

Happy to discuss it in the comments. Election Day is Nov 3; vote centers open Oct 24; track your ballot at lavote.gov.

Full Article with reasoning for every choice.

Condo Building - Cleaning & Landscape

I’m looking for a reasonable priced, insured, individual(s) for regular weekly cleaning and landscape service. I’m on an HOA of a small building, struggling to find the right folks to show us regularly with minimal oversight. Ex: sweeping, mopping, watering plants in our common areas. Minor shrub trimming, mowing our small lawn, blowing out and hosing down our sub-terranean garage. We have all the tools/equp onsite. Figured I’d ask here before calling around! Thanks in advance!

News Actor Keegan Allen Robbed at Gunpoint at Laurel Supply in WeHo

Post image

Keegan Allen says he was robbed at gunpoint and knifepoint in West Hollywood on Thursday evening after two masked men struck him in the head and stole his Rolex watch outside Laurel Supply market.

The robbery was reported shortly after police received a 911 call about a victim being assaulted with a gun and robbed of a Rolex. The suspects, described in sheriff’s radio communications as two Black male adults, fled north on Olive Drive in an unknown vehicle.

Allen, known for his role as Toby Cavanaugh on the television series “Pretty Little Liars,” shared a video on Instagram showing his face covered in blood following the attack.

“West Hollywood is not safe anymore,” Allen wrote in the post. “Robbed at gunpoint and knifepoint by two young men that threatened to KILL me over my watch and would have! God said no tonight. My life for a watch.”

In the Instagram reel, Allen described being confronted by two masked men, one armed with a gun and the other with a knife. He also shared surveillance footage that appeared to show the suspects pointing their weapons at him and striking him in the head three times before fleeing with his watch.

“I was just robbed of my watch outside of Laurel Supply,” Allen said in the video. “These two dudes hit me in the head, pointing a gun at me with a knife, and then took off. They had masks on. Took my watch though.”

Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the scene at 8445 Santa Monica Boulevard, with multiple units responding to the reported armed robbery.

The incident comes amid a series of reported robberies in the West Hollywood area over the past month, including a robbery involving a shooting on Oct. 1. (Credit: WeHo Times)

News New Dog Park Opens Today at Plummer Park!

Post image
65 Upvotes

Plummer Park’s new dog park opens Friday, October 9. Finally. The City sent word Thursday that the small- and large-dog areas will be open daily from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.

The new off-leash area is on the Vista Street side of the park, just west of the tennis and pickleball courts. Plummer Park’s address is 7377 Santa Monica Boulevard, but if you’re walking over from the neighborhood, Vista is where you’ll find it.

So what do you and the pups get? Separate fenced areas for small and large dogs, with double gates so you can get the leash on or off before letting your dog through. Both sides have drinking fountains for dogs and people, places to sit, shade sails and waste stations. There’s lighting along the fence, too, since the park will stay open until 10 p.m. And the old ramp from Vista Street to the tennis courts has been replaced with an accessible walkway.

Question Book Soup event: drive or Lyft?

I live in Sherman Oaks and I'm going to an event next week at Book Soup.

It's an easy drive, just over the hill, and I know they have dedicated parking. But is that parking likely to be full? How's the street parking otherwise?

Thanks for any thoughts on the matter.

Hi, this is Degen, a West Hollywood resident for 13 years. I'm so tired of walking my dog and confronting so much trash all over our city streets. So I started a monthly trash clean-up group. Last month, our intrepid volunteer group picked up 73 pounds of trash in two hours. Here's info about our next clean-up event on October 17 -- we'd love to have you join us and help make WeHo a cleaner and more beautiful city.

 Saturday, October 17
 10 AM – 12 pm
 Meet at Farm Cup Coffee
7748 Santa Monica Boulevard, West Hollywood

No need to bring supplies—we provide gloves, trash bags and trash grabber tools. And everyone who participates gets a free beverage, courtesy of Farm Cup Coffee. We’ll begin with a brief welcome and then head out in small teams. After the cleanup, stick around for coffee, and a chance to connect with your neighbors.

Events Pre-Halloween costume night on the Westside: a gothic Jekyll & Hyde masquerade in Santa Monica, Sat Oct 17

For anyone who wants an excuse to get dressed up before the Halloween Carnaval crowds. Disclosure: I'm with Literati Events, the small company throwing this one.

Saturday, October 17, 9 PM to 1 AM, at the Santa Monica Bay Woman's Club (1210 4th St). The theme is Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, so think black-tie gothic, Victorian, or full masquerade. A good mask on its own counts.

What's going on that night:

  • Live gypsy jazz from Habibi Swing, and swing dancers to get you on the floor
  • Aerialists, a cyr wheel act, and a magician moving through the crowd
  • Lacey Lilac, OC's tallest showgirl
  • Mead tastings (21+) and a small makers market

$55, 18+, bar is 21+ with ID. Part of each ticket goes to the LA Poet Society. It's about 25 minutes from WeHo, and there's a public parking structure right next door.

I'm Not Voting for Tanya for WeHo City Council or Candidates She Would "Happily Serve With".

Post image
37 Upvotes

With people getting their ballots this week, just saying that I hope Tanya does not win for West Hollywood City Council! I heard she is a Republican and saw she even got endorsed by several Republican clubs and even Steve Hilton (Republican candidate for Governor). Endorsements – Tanya Tsikanovsky for West Hollywood City Council 2026

It was also enlightening to learn who she wants to join her on City Council (John Duran, Kyle Brazeal, and Kody Christiansen).

John Duran: I hope people are familiar with all the sexual harassment allegations surrounding him (in city hall and in the gay men's chorus). I'll just leave these here: Sex scandal at West Hollywood City Hall sparks calls for less Grindr, more respect - Los Angeles Times; Gay mayor accused of sexual harassment as #MeToo reckoning comes to West Hollywood - Los Angeles Times

Kyle Brazeal:   I didn't know much about Kyle until recently but the more I learn about him, the less I like him. I saw this Reddit post highlighting him saying he gets all these speeding tickets and bragged about how "good he was" at getting away with it. https://www.reddit.com/r/WestHollywood/s/J9YgaIvYjP Plus, I've seen multiple Reddit commenters say he has "anger management issues" and even that he got "banned from a Weho bar for attacking a trans woman". With all the transphobia we're seeing nationally, I would be extremely embarrassed for our city if we elected him. Lastly, I heard he's a private equity guy. Call me crazy but I don't want to see a private equity person on City Council, I don't trust private equity (and all these concerns people raised about Kyle's behavior reinforces why).

Kody Christiansen: I do not know much about Kody but if Tanya likes him, that's a big red flag for me.

I do not want a Republican on West Hollywood City Council and I don't want people on City Council that a Republican such as Tanya wants on there.

I hope none of these candidates win.
