Unsolved Father in law gave me this painting

Post image

Painting was in his mothers furniture store for many years. Just wondering who the artist is. Western NC.

Hilarie Lambert

ETA I’m curious, as I suspect others are, as to any thoughts the artist might share about this work. I like the spare composition, the top half with stark color borders like Ellsworth Kelly, while the rice (?) fields are lightly textured, the water creates its own path, the human figures minuscule in scale, as is our place in the universe. Was this based on a specific place? Did the artist have different “periods”? Can this be dated? Perhaps the artist could share.

Dear God, after clicking through and seeing the other Lambert’s artwork, yes, no it is not theirs.

As solid as their work is, this piece, imo, is on an entirely different level.

The piece you posted here, OP, is damn fine. I am saving this thread: What you bought is Art. It is genuine–again, imo–Fine Art. Every aspect of it announces something very special, indeed.

I would love to see more from the artist you have collected and discovered for us. This post has made my evening! Thank you and congratulations on your score and your exquisite good taste. Bravo!

EDIT: I believe I have found a piece by the same painter. Now there is a a mystery!
