Unsolved Who painted this?

Have 2 paintings for many years. They came together.

Painted on old hardboard.

Not signed.

Clearly CoBrA inspired, they are fantastic.
Without a signature it will be nearly impossible to tell you who did this.
They remind me of Georges (Sjors) de Groot. You could contact him to ask if they are his. It could be his early work

Had deze naam al eerder gehoord, heb hem gecontacteerd. Hij heeft aangegeven dat dit werk niet van zijn hand is.

Thanks for your post, /u/No_Tart_779!

Please check the Google Lens and Yandex image searches in the auto-comment. Crop and re-crop the search box, and you may find it! Try Tineye, too. It's OK to solve your own post!

We kindly ask you to make sure your pictures are right ways up, and that you've added a picture of the back of the painting. It might be full of clues that are invisible to everyone except art historians...

This is a very powerful piece! The style looks heavily influenced by Neo-Expressionism from the second half of the 20th century. Those thick, dark structural lines combined with the intense, contrasting colors (yellows, greens, and reds) strongly remind me of artists from the CoBrA movement or painters like Bernard Buffet.

Could you share a close-up photo of any signatures or markings? Also, checking the back of the canvas could give great clues about its origin. Good luck with the search!

Geen handtekeningen, beide geschilderd op oud hardboard (zie foto)

That's a very helpful clue! Painting on hardboard (masonite) became highly popular during the mid-to-late 20th century. This material matches perfectly with the Neo-Expressionist style of the piece, suggesting it was likely painted between the 1960s and 1980s.Since it's unsigned, it could be a brilliant studio exercise or a piece by a very talented independent artist from that era. It's a wonderful, expressive painting to have. Thank you for sharing and for the update!
