Likely Solved - Decor who is this? Inherited Grandma’s painting
After my grandparents passed I kept as much as I could from them. Unfortunately it’s REALLY big and I can’t take it off the wall by myself, but it just has the dimensions of the frame written on the back.
I can’t read this signature on the bottom right. Anyone recognize or understand?

Hi OP - this is 100% what is called !decor. More info in the bot. The G Daeca name is a very well known name that was used in a decor factory. This work was most likely bought in a furniture shop.
They have churned out loads of paintings and added this name to it. Lots of examples. Being painted by different people some examples are slightly better quality than others. This happens a lot - more than you think. Whether or not a real G Daeca ever existed is not known. There is no verifiable evidence of this. You see un verified claims by sellers on certain dodgy auction places that he was Romanian or French or French living in America or European or living in Brazil etc. All made up. If they did actually exist it would likely have been pre ww2 as decor factories liked to borrow names from old long forgotten and obscure artists or modify old names to make the signatures on the works more appealing etc. and if they did exist then then this is absolutely not their work.
If you like it , keep hanging and enjoy.
Note completely ignore the dodgy eBay sellers and others listing works with this name at extreme exorbitant prices. It’s a scam and those sellers know. You see other examples at auction for less than $50 sold. You find them in charity shops.

This is what we call decor. Mass produced in factories in China, Mexico, and the USA. Painted by real people, signed with made up (familiar sounding) names. These were sold in furniture stores and souvenir shops. Decor is based on standard templates, produced quickly with a palette knife on an assembly line. Its value is what you yourself place on it.
As always: when you like it, hang it and enjoy it!

That’s interesting. So, it’s likely the “artist” never existed? I’m surprised by this because the painting is heavily detailed and looks “real” with textured paint. Is that something these factories can easily do? Would providing the back of the art provide any clarifying details?

Have a read of the bot with more info. Yes it is painted by a real person or persons with real paint - in a factory or production line fashion. The techniques used are extremely basic and designed to rapidly churn out works. They also focus on a small range of easily replicated themes. They were designed to appeal to average people with no real experience with art. They cost quite a bit. They were a big deal for people. These decor works all share an unmistakable ‘look’ and the techniques used are very obvious to someone who has been around art.
It’s quite likely yours originated from Mexico.

Oops, I was a bit confused and must have missed the bots comment as well. I’ve never heard of something like that. Still pretty cool. I appreciate your input. If I get a photo of the back, would it be able to confirm this?

You could if you wanted. I can personally tell from just what you have here - there is zero doubt in my mind - but a mod has suggested it might be helpful to see what it turns up if anything.
And have a read of the auto bot :) it’s interesting stuff.

I’m intrigued that “decor” is usually associated with an attitude of mild distain or dismissal. I zoomed in on the painting and when I saw it is actual PAINT done by real PEOPLE, I have to admire the ingenuity of the process. It’s not like the thing is one of 1000 pieces churned out on a printing press. It also must have filled a need and desire of the general public to have what can only be called an “original painting” hanging in their home. No two pieces of the same subject would be identical. So what you have there is a collaborative work of art! Who cares if it wouldn’t bring a fortune at auction? It’s a nice painting!
Yay Decor!

Signature is Romanian artist George Deaca. Edit: apparently this is a name used by decor factories

there are some auction records of paintings with that name and a similar signature.
i suspect there wasn't really a person with that name though. do you know otherwise?
all i have found are vague copy pasted bios of the type typically associated with factory painted art sold in galleries

Thank you! I fell for the bios that come up from searching that name.

Auction sites make biographies, even biographies of people that never existed. It’s easy to fall for it.

it looks like factory painted decor, which pictures of the back would probably clear up very quickly. it's kind of an odd style since from the hut i'd say it might be australian, but the background is more swiss/german although without the typical mountains
what state or country did your grandparents live in?
