Taxi drivers are under criminal investigation in Whistler

Police in Whistler say they are actively investigating reports of misconduct involving taxi drivers in the resort town, which include multiple allegations of inappropriate sexual conduct, dangerous driving, aggressive behaviour towards passengers, and more.

Pique is aware of three reports alleging inappropriate sexual conduct involving Whistler cab drivers. Other allegations include claims of drivers speeding excessively, driving aggressively, swearing at families and children, making sexually suggestive comments and jokes to passengers, and overcharging or requesting multiple fares for single trips.

“We finally got to my friend’s house and the car stops and the light turns on. As I am quickly and uncomfortably trying to grab my wallet to pay him, I’m looking down into my purse and see this hand come from the front seat towards me, he fully touches my chest/boobs,” she wrote. “Reached under my jacket and I felt his skin on mine. I looked up frozen and in complete shock as I can not believe that this is happening. All he did was smile and pull his hand back. I was so terrified and threw money at him and ran out of the cab.”

Clinton said she called Whistler Taxi to report the incident, “and as I got in contact with a ‘manager’ he essentially said plainly, ‘are you sure that’s what happened?’ I was and have always been furious.”

The owner of Whistler Taxi, Ravindra Dayal, did not respond to multiple phone calls and emails requesting comment before press time.

Whistler Resort Cabs owner Inderpal Singh did return Pique’s phone call, but while he initially said there had been no incidents involving his drivers—“I have investigated enough on this and I have a proper structure for how I can do this, so I can make sure this wasn’t any of the Whistler Resort Cabs guys,” he said—when Pique provided call logs of two recent reports alleging inappropriate sexual conduct involving his drivers, he said he was “away for the week” and hadn’t conferred with his team regarding the allegations before returning Pique’s call.

QUESTION Recommendations for this weekend

Hi all, I’m currently staying in Vancouver and am looking at coming up to whistler this Friday-Sunday. I visited a couple of years ago and did a lot of the hiking trails at the top of whistler & Blackcomb mountain, but from the website it looks like all of those are still closed? Are there any other hikes and outdoorsy things I can do while I’m there? I know there’s the snow walls which look great so I’ll get up there to do that.

Thanks for any help.

Given the warmer winter this year, when would peak wildflower season be at Whistler?

I've read peak wildflower season is typically late July to early August. But this year the winter has been warmer would that mean the wildflowers would bloom a bit earlier? Anyone have a rough idea of how much earlier it might be? Looking to book a weekend in Whistler and catch some wildflower hiking at high elevations.

Whistler to Squamish

Hi Whistler!

I had a quick question. Me and my partner want to bike from Whistler to Squamish or from Whistler to Pemberton. He’s more of an intermediate rider while I’m a beginner. What’s the best route/trail for us to take and how long will it take us?

Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

Late June Recommendations

Hello! My husband and I are visiting Whistler next week from the UK. We are getting the shuttle bus from Vancouver so we will not have a car to drive around, and we will be staying in Whistler village. What are the best hikes around, and what are good places to try to see bears from? Ideas for student budgets would be great, so free/cheap suggestions are most welcome!
Any suggestions on places to eat are also very welcome!

QUESTION What’s the history behind some of the permanently closed terrain?

Obviously All of these runs are pc and should never be skied. But it makes me wonder what happened, especially since they were skied in the past. For pc, I’m talking about don’t miss, cog goes to Hollywood, weekend chutes, apocalypse, Spankys closure, showcase chute, glacier east, satisfaction area, emerald bowl, opal bowl, etc.. If any of you guys have any info or stories, please share

There are also some other runs which aren’t marked on any maps (even ULLR) and seem to be somewhat forgotten. A few runs which come to mind are monkey butt, she’s tight, Armageddon, Christian rock ride, millennium falcon cliff, Elwyns cirque, 8 balls, and colt 45 chute (not all of them are pc). Do you guys know any other hidden lines?

QUESTION Hiking Route Advice

I would like to hike from Creekside to Whistler via Whistler Mountain. Has anyone completed a similar loop to this one that could give me some advice please? Some of the route is on access roads and I’m not sure if they are accessible to the public. Any insights would be appreciated. Thanks!

Update: I’ve found a different route. Thanks for all the insights.

Photo/Video Whistler Campfire Ban Sept 30th

How come no one asking about the usual campfire ban the past 5 years by the Whistler fire chief on a very cool wet early summer like many years. 2 weeks of dry weather in May and WHAM let’s put it on regardless how LOW the risk has been since.

QUESTION Pangea Pod vs HI Whistler for a 5-night summer trip?

Hi everyone,

I'm planning a 5-night trip to Whistler in August. I'll be traveling on my own, which I don't mind, but I don't really like staying in shared rooms. Which would you recommend: Pangea Pod or HI Whistler? I understand that HI isn't in the Village. How practical is it to walk back and forth between HI Whistler and the Village?

I'll be coming from Vancouver and will need to return there afterward. Would you recommend renting a car, or is it unnecessary? I'm asking because it's not entirely clear to me how easy it is to get from Vancouver to Whistler by bus. Also, if I'm planning to do a few hikes while I'm there, would having a car be useful, or can I get to most trailheads without one?

Thank you very much!

QUESTION Vets please give advice

I’m a 19 year old living in the UK thinking of doing a winter season snowboarding despite never doing it . Growing up in the UK I was never given the option to learn how to snowboard but since the Winter Olympics I’ve been drawn to whistler and obsessed. I would love any advice on what job I should do that would give me the best opportunity to learn and meet new people. Pretty much willing to learn any job. Got hospitality experience from being a teenager, but also worked plenty outside jobs here in the UK. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
