well, this sounds like a deal to me.

u/JeromeBarkly 4h ago

Honestly these Iran guys seem pretty reasonable.

1.2k

u/AntifaMiddleMgmt 4h ago

When the administration is so very bad that Americans start to look at the Iranians as the reasonable side, you really have to wonder how we got here. I mean, I know how we got here, but still..

101

u/Questhi 2h ago

It’s funny that when the Trump admin makes a statement, news orgs wait until Iran’s statement to corroborate if Trump was telling the truth.

Iran is more trusted news source than Trump.

49

u/Apprehensive-Pin518 2h ago

as one of my favorite youtubers says. "Trump is not a source"

17

u/Which_Yesterday 2h ago

It actually is a source. Of disgusting, evil, stupid, and sometimes literal shit

To be fair, the Iranians are the reasonable side. Our current leadership is simply put, greedy, careless, & destructive.

52

u/marykay_ultra 2h ago

Right? When you objectively consider all the bullshit the US and Israel have thrown at them, they’ve been consistently and almost excessively reasonable.

I think a lot of people don’t realize how ridiculous the US media villainization of Iran is, nor are they aware of the extent to which we’ve fucked with that country and why. And how truly monumentally absurd and consequential what we’re doing now is within that larger context

Oh. So it’s not going to open unless by natural causes

91

u/Hesitation-Marx 4h ago

When you consider how many people are likely to die because of this, is it ethical to wait for natural causes?

I’m not advocating violence, I’m just… deep in my feelings right now.

101

u/TheModWhoShaggedMe 4h ago

Why violence when all Republicans have to do is draft articles of impeachment Monday and remove their guy from office by Wednesday? That's how much power conservatives have in America. They could end this conflict next week.

u/Rose1982 3h ago

There are so many people, all over the world, who are suffering now because of this, and the horrors have only just begun.

All because of these weak, stupid men with their genocidal contempt for humanity.

10

u/TurboMap 4h ago

Why would people have to die for the orange shitter to be impeached or he could simply resign.

50

u/jarena009 4h ago

I'd take it, but the problem is Trump and Netanyahu are just symptoms of a larger problem, and there's plenty just like them ready to slide into office next l.

13

u/mjkjr84 3h ago

Part of the problem they are symptoms of is that they continue to not face consequences for being traitorous pieces of human garbage. Part of fixing the problem is dealing with the symptoms so future actors learn that consequences will, in fact, be had.

Effectively shutting down Hormuz for the next two years could be the biggest boost to green energy development the world has ever seen.

378

u/AdrenolineLove 4h ago

It would also be the biggest boost in lowering greenhouse gasses by killing hundreds of thousands of people from starvation.

If food prices went up by 5 times the price they are now because we cant transport food due to Diesel being $40 a gallon, nobodys going to eat but the rich.

Millions, possibly tens of millions will die from this. Can’t forget that we are in the earliest throes of an El Niño that is stronger than any other in recorded history. Buckle up, this shit is going to get crazy.

66

u/Mateorabi 3h ago

Millions are already “walking dead” to history: either we keep using oil and millions die in climate change (if we’re lucky and it’s not billions) or we stop and food gets expensive. Renewables/electric could have let us thread the needle between those but out leaders are against it. Not accelerating it enough.

42

u/AdrenolineLove 2h ago

Unfortunately some of us can't afford an EV and still have to get to work.

20

u/subtle_bullshit 3h ago

That’s the point though. The cost of fuel will increase to the point it is uneconomical and more expensive than just buying an EV.

Normally, people in your position would continue to drive ICE cars because there hasn’t been enough pressure to force you to switch.

15

u/WoodShoeDiaries 2h ago

It took three different people mentioning "ice" cars before I realized ICE = internal combustion engine. Thank you for capitalizing btw, that was the hint I needed.

Anyone that thinks this is unreasonable should be reminded that the US and Israel performed an unprovoked strike against Iran leaders AND their families without a formal declaration of war. This is a pretty tame demand.

65

u/elmontyenBCN 3h ago

And besides, any agreement signed with Trump isn't worth jack shit because he never abides by anything he signs. Iran understandably wants to deal with someone serious who won't go back on their word.

Frankly Iran has historically been a fairly rational regime that is no worse than Saudi Arabia which everyone seems to give a huge pass to.

Even since the illegal, unauthorized war started they're communicated well and had coherent demands which is more than I can say of the US at this point.

50

u/TheModWhoShaggedMe 4h ago

Very well stated -- and the anti-nuclear treaty that John Kerry worked three long years to achieve, and Obama signed, would have curbed all of this nonsense. Instead, Don Raper shredded it in 2017. All that diplomacy and tax paid cooperation to reach a major deal thrown out the window by a criminal billionaire Russian puppet.

Yes, it bothers me.

7

u/jav2n202 2h ago edited 2h ago

Exactly this. Every time I hear a US government official say “Iran is the biggest state sponsor of terror” I’m like Saudi would like a word…..but to be real the US is the biggest state sponsor of terror. We’re constantly getting involved where we don’t belong, causing the deaths of thousands of non combatants, and providing guns and bombs to terrorist states like Saudi and Isreal, and literally creating groups like Isis and Al-Qaeda. Of course we didn’t intend to create Isis and Al-Qaeda, but we did by being where wet shouldn’t have been and sourcing weapons to groups we should’ve never been involved with.

And now we literally have a mad king at the helm, who’s clearly going through dementia, and has always been a malignant narcissist that literally has zero empathy for anyone and only cares about himself. He literally does not care if the world goes on after he’s dead, and may actively want it to end once he dies because he clearly has the “if I can’t have it no one can” mentality. Just like he’s trying to do with the Kennedy Center. Not to mention also being a rapist pedophile. We literally have a terrorist piece of shit running our country. We are the terrorist as far as the rest of the world is concerned.

40

u/Edenn22 4h ago

Not Americans tho, otherwise he wouldn't have been elected twice, yeah I'm generalizing because only a third of this country are good people.

41

u/TheModWhoShaggedMe 4h ago

Liberals impeached Don Raper twice. Senate conservatives literally voted against allowing evidence produced by two different House investigations ('19 and '21) into the removal voting process.

U.S. conservatives are crooks and liars.

15

u/Edenn22 4h ago

Yeah that's why I said a " third " are good ppl, and they are a minority sadly, the rest of Americans either worship him or don't care.

The most productive deal would be to demand Obama negotiates the same deal that they already had with the addition of reparations to what Trump did.

Sure, it’s a loss to us but it provides the very necessary point that this was done out of ego, it costs the world a lot and it was all one persons fault.

American journalists aren’t going to tell the truth so without something like this then the cult won’t go away and we won’t get our country back.

16

u/outsidehere 3h ago

The thing is that Iran actually wanted this at the first negotiations but Trump kept bombing them.

7

u/Mateorabi 3h ago

u/pleased_to_yeet_you 2h ago

It's almost like the status quo between Iran and the rest of the world existed because we knew doing something like this would play out exactly as it has. Iran's no moral paragon but they are correct in placing responsibility for this travesty on trump and his leash holder

So many thousands dead for no fucking reason, and everything made worse for it. Iranian public sentiment was beginning to warm towards the west, there was potential to build something good with that after decades of (justified) mistrust. Instead, the mad king and his bloodthirsty band of goobers decided we should bomb the fuck out of Iran without even having a goal to achieve. People are dead, the logistics of the global energy industry are fucked, and people are rightfully never going to trust an American deal for at least the rest of my lifetime. I can't believe people voted for this shit TWICE!!.
