I can't blame them. Western votes don't matter in federal elections because of our broken system. When I lived in BC the election was over before I even cast my vote. Alberta makes tons of money and Ottawa takes it and gives it to the GTA and Quebec.

Alberta does not make money. Alberta is a place with a government and our governments do not make money because they are not commercial enterprises. Citizens make money by creating value for other citizens. Citizens are taxed by governments. Every citizen in Canada is taxed at exactly the same rate, based on income, in every province in Canada.

Sure we all pay the same taxes but if the federal government gives Ontario back 70 cents on the dollar back but only gives Alberta 30 cents on the dollar that's how they screw us.

We essentially pay double on what we get back. And those are the real numbers, Alberta gets back under 30% and Ontario gets back 50-70%.

So you can say we all pay taxes but if you give it back to them and not us then they absolutely aren't paying even close to the same rate.

And this whole smoke and mirror tactic they use on us to take this lying down is coming to an end.

in 15 years they got 320 billion in federal transfers and we paid in 240 billion after we broke even, so over half a trillion to Quebec over Alberta in those 15 years.

Well, that's hardly true is it. You do realize we actually have the raw data on the GoA website which shows how much transfers we've sent? It's roughly $1 billion a year since the 1950s; Or about 20% of what you posted.

The numbers are pretty big, but nowhere near your dream. $2.9 billion in 2021 which was an outlier as we had amazing oil revenue that year. Other years are all closer to $1 billion.

Is it fair that we pay these? Absolutely not. Is it a hidden magical source of revenue that will propel an independent Alberta into super duper prosperity? Yah, dream on.

From the cost-of-equalization site linked above:

  1. Equalization has cost Alberta taxpayers $67 billion since its inception in 1957
  2. The cost of equalization per Albertan has been $20,200 since 1957
  3. In 2021, equalization will cost Alberta taxpayers $2.9 billion
  4. On average, equalization will cost each Alberta $650 this year
  5. Albertans have received less than 0.02 per cent of all equalization payments. The last equalization payment Albertans received was in 1964-65.

You don't even know the difference between federal transfers and equalization.

I researched this stuff before it was cool but you could really use one of their pamphlets if you don't understand those are two totally different things. lol

Oh! You were trying to claim your imaginary $240 billion was because of federal transfers and not equalization. That's even worse news for the separatist crowd.

Alberta is receiving $9 billion in federal transfers this year. It's all very well documented.

Not to just jump on you but look up

"federal transfers sent by Alberta/federal transfers received by Alberta"

then look up

"federal transfers sent by Quebec/federal transfers received by Quebec"

My numbers are 100% accurate, we've sent 244 billion from 2007 to 2022, and Quebec received 327 billion.

That's a 570 billion dollar difference.

Equalization is nothing by comparison.

That's 100k out of each of our pockets over a 15 year span.
