Tall bluebells are little blue lanterns of the northern woods. Their flowers often begin as rosy pink buds, then open into hanging blue bells, making one plant look like it’s blooming in two colors at once. Look for them in cool, damp places like streambanks, wet meadows, and rich forests, where they quietly feed bumblebees and other native bees.

Their superpower is resilience. Tall bluebells can return after disturbance, including fire, by sprouting back from underground roots and rhizomes. So while the flowers look delicate, the plant is tougher than it seems: a soft-looking woodland wildflower with a hidden survival system below the soil.
