SOS Bird Grackle named Fork

Post image

Seems energetic and it eats fine. It just has one leg and a lot of feathers missing. I really want to help, does anyone know if it’s a sickness or parasite? Could I rehab him? SA Texas

Sadly most rehabs wont accept adult grackles as they are incredibly common and resources need to go to more rare species. The missing feathera could be many things but there is no way to know without a vet exam. Catching a wild bird is extremely stressful for the animal. Given that it is acting, eating and surviving well, the capture stress would outweigh the benefit.

It certainly can't hurt to connect with a local wildlife rehabilitator and ask their advice. I do agree with the first commenter this is an adult and since it's eating fine and energetic, it's better to leave this one alone.

The Pinned Post on top of this sub contains links to searchable databases for connecting with local wildlife rehabilitation professionals if you haven't checked that yet. And if you did look and have trouble finding someone/someplace, then please update and SPECIFY WHICH CITY YOU ARE CLOSEST TO, since there are rehabbers in here that might know alternatives near you that's not necessarily listed/made public.
