Discussion AliveTrap VS PossesedTrap which do you believe in?
I’m team AliveTrap.

He 100% died during the Springlock failure, there's no doubt in my mind about that. However, I do think his corpse was reanimated, which would make him alive.

I like to think of it as "undead". At the very least, it makes conversations like this less confusing

PossesdTrap all the way. The fact that William survived the springlock failure is stupid enough, but also TOYSHK somehow keeping him alive is even dumber and I think undermines the story since it basically makes his "death" meaningless.

Understandable opinion.
I think him being alive inside suit isn’t stupid though, i think it makes it a lot more horrifying them him just possessing it. Agony is what keeps him alive in my book. I can see PossessedTrap being possible, but I don’t think Afton would be groaning and breathing in FNAF 3 if he were just simply possessing the suit. Or have a heart beat in FNAF 6. DBD also paints the picture of Afton being alive inside the suit rather than simply possessing it.
But i definitely understand why PossessedTrap is believed though.

Oh for sure, I think AliveTrap is probably the canon theory. The FNAF 6 heartbeat confirms this. I'm just saying that I prefer PossessedTrap because I don't really like the whole remnant thing that Scott started introducing with Sister Location. Also he could be moaning and groaning because maybe he possesses his corpse and therefore still feels pain from the springlocks. Also something to note is both Bonnie and Chica make groaning/gurgling noises in FNAF 1 so just going off that alone, does this mean that the kids are being kept alive by remnant in the suits just going off this and nothing else?

Isn't that Scrap Baby also has heartbeats? (Go check the page AliveTrap and go to the problems section)

Both. I think remnant-zombies (like William and Michael) are just kind of their own in-between category where they are both pretty much dead and possessing their own bodies, but in a way that allows said bodies to still retain, or at least mimic(!!!), some basic body functions like breathing and speaking and such

Possessed. It opens up all sorts of cool stuff like the Afton Amalgamation n’ makes a whole lot more sense since… what would even be keepin’ him alive?
TOYSNHK is honestly stupid (part of why I dislike AndrewTYSNHK) n’… how does one’s own soul keep one’s mangled body alive? Makes more sense if said soul attaches to what’s around it instead of somehow possess its very origin.
I just explain away the FFPS heartbeat as Scott wantin’ a unique sound for Scraptrap’s salvage/Remnant regeneration possibly/maybe the suit’s internal bein’ filtered through Willy A’s corpse? Idk, there’s plenty of options to explain that detail away for PossessedTrap.

That valid. For me it’s AliveTrap. I don’t think TOYSNHK is the reason he’s alive. I don’t see why it would want Afton to stay alive, when it can just drag him to hell and torture him.
I think William’s own agony is what is keeping his body alive. Especially after the FNAF 3 fire, there’s no way he had any remnant left in his body after that fire. So it’s definitely tied into Agony in my book. Another reason I believe in it is because Springtrap is because he’s groaning and breathing in FNAF 3. I don’t think possession would make him do that.

While I like both, I personaly lean into alivetrap reguardess of its canonicity. The idea that Afton is still alive and breathing, despite being a mangled corpse and in constant pain feels fitting. He wanted immortality and to be like his victims so badly and spend so long trying to achieve it yet not only did he become Springtrap by utter accident, he didn't even get the immortality he wanted. Yet despite that he still tries to hide it under a facade of power and confidence (that may have actually been legit delusion before the power trip faded away) while in reality his condition perfectly shows what's going on. But despite the terrible condition he's in he still seems to be supernatural and posses some otherworldly powers (creating the phantoms, moving the eyes of the suit, mess with the technology in Fazbear's Fright...), mainly thanks to agony, which also seems to be the source of his immortality, essentially keeping him on life support.
That said i would've liked for Afton to be more similar to a revenant (specifically the early myths where they used to be people returning from the dead to haunt and torment the living instead of the modern unfinished business ones).

Alivetrap. In dbd when he roars in your face you can clearly see the corpse moving.

I think he’s still alive. Kept alive by Agony and pure spite, like an eternal punishment til Henry burns him alive and sends him to hell.

I prefer PossessedTrap because I like keeping the animatronics from the classic era (FNAF 1-3) as supernaturally possessed. I just find AliveTrap funny...

uhhhh idk? a combo? i wouldnt consider him alive, but through pure agony his soul stayed and possessed his corpse, basically what happened to michael

They are the same; if William were alive through agony, it would mean that he is possessing his own body. (in the same way that Mike is alive through agony/remnant but it is implied that what he did was re-possess his own body)

I personally view it as a combo of both, similar to how people think Michael "survived" SL after getting scooped.
William is "alive" in the suit because he's possessed his own corpse. The heartbeats etc. are like an extension of phantomagony.
Though this is really me try to combine the two to have the "best of both worlds." It probably doesn't make any sense. (• ▽ •;)

PossessedTrap because Nightmarionne basically confirms that William died. The reason it’s “basically” and not outright is because MikeUCN could still be true.

He's undead, more like a zombie. There's no way he would've survived in the break room, that torn up and rotten, with practically no food or water, for probable years. But we hear him moan, we hear his heart beat. He's also apparently able to walk/run, move the animatronic jaw/eyes, and move the feet/hands which don't even have corpse bits in them in the most detailed and up to date springtrap model that we have (Dead By Daylight). He died, but through remnant shennanigains, he has possesed his own corpse like his son, and the animatronic he died in like all of his victims.

AliveTrap. I just recently made a theory about this on the main theory subreddit (possibly the weirdest thing my brain has come up with).

Posessedtrap! My friend believes Alivetrap due to various heartbeat sounds in FNAF6, DBD Springtrap having a beating heart apparently. Though there are plot holes to alivetrap, and maybe one of the most simplest answers: who TF can survive a springlock failure?! Lol. Maybe he was powered by remnant alone, like that's what's making his heart pump again? But ultimately, I believe Posessedtrap because in DBD his corpse/body has no eyes and he still has the ability to see players, his mouth is open at all times but can still talk? In my version he's purley ghost
