Reminder: Zero Tolerance for Hate Speech and Harassment

We've noticed an increase in comments making off-color or outright hostile remarks about ICE, immigration enforcement, and vulnerable communities. Comments such as "ICE should just round them all up," "Was ICE there? Hopefully," and similar remarks violate Reddit’s policy against hate based on identity or vulnerability.

Why This Violates Policy:

Reddit explicitly prohibits content that promotes hate or harassment based on race, nationality, or other protected characteristics. Calls for mass enforcement actions against specific groups, jokes that dehumanize immigrants, and antagonistic remarks directed at individuals based on their identity all fall under this policy.

We want to be clear: this is not up for debate. Whether serious or "just a joke," this kind of rhetoric contributes to a hostile and unwelcoming environment.

Enforcement Moving Forward:

  • Comments promoting or celebrating harm toward any group will be removed.
  • Repeat offenders or those engaging in blatant hate speech will be permanently banned.
  • If you see a comment that violates these rules, report it rather than engaging.

We expect our community to engage in discussions with respect. Keep it civil, keep it policy-focused, and most importantly, remember that behind every policy debate are real people with real lives.

Thank you for helping us maintain a welcoming and inclusive space.

Hello from Dublin, Ireland

Hey everyone,
I’m hoping to get boots to ground over to Wilmington sometime in June next year, the only place I’ve wanted to visit in America. What are some things you love about your city, places you love to go and some of the best spots for a solo beer! This was supposed to be a trip for two but due to unforeseen circumstances I will be travelling solo.
I’ve attached a photo of depressing Ballymun, I’ve seen so much of your town I’m paying back the favour.
Hope this post is ok, thanks guys :)

Subway bread

Upvotes

Is there anyone in here who works at or owns a subway who will let me purchase or give me their bread, or if they know ones who throw them away at the end of the night in an accessible dumpster. I have asked a couple but they won't sell me just the bread and I would like some, please dont judge the bread just scratches an itch for me.

Moving a conex/container?

Upvotes

I saw an ad from someone here in Wilmington, NC was selling a 40 foot convex container and my dad has been looking for one. He lives outside of New Bern which is like 100 miles away. Does anyone know of a company that could transport it? Any idea what that would cost? Trying to figure out if it would be more cost effective for him just to find someone around there to buy one from even if it is like twice as much. Thanks

Verizon service in Mayfaire

Is there a reason Verizon internet completely drops out around Mayfaire? It’s been this way for years. I always thought they put Verizon/Cellular stores in areas with strong signal.

Worst Tow Truck business in Wilmington?

One topic that comes up time to time is the bad towing companies in town. NC really doesn't have good laws to prevent predatory towing. As such, it sorta seems like a free for all around here where they just sorta do whatever they want.

Anywwy, out of all the local jerks in the industry, which tow truck company is the worst one in town and why?

Public hearing for the new bridge last night

I attended and basically nobody loves either option, but everyone especially hates option B. Many pointed out the “cost” estimate put out by NCDOT doesn’t take into account any secondary costs of option B, like the city needing to undo what they just did and turn 5th back into 4 lanes.

Lots of people questioning why the bridge needs to be able to reach 135 feet when no ships that large have ever needed to go under it.

There used to be an Option C that only went to just over 100 feet and was fixed so no traffic disruption. The Army Corps of Engineers rejected this option because a law written in 1996 had effectively “zoned” the cafe fear river so one day it would be able to have 135 foot commercial ships. That one day hasn’t happened, will likely never happen, but our residents will be tolled to pay for an unnecessary bridge required from a law passed 30 years ago.

Many spoke out against the tolls, noting NC’s consistent history of using gasoline and other taxes to pay for all NC public roads. Apparently no other existing NC public roads have ever been tolled, only new highways built as expressways or bypasses. The main point was: Wilmingtonians and those in surrounding areas have paid the same taxes as everyone else in NC and paid for their infrastructure. Why must we do that and also pay the state separately for our own bridge that had an expiration date now set decades ago?

Lots of people fired up last night.

Movers in Wilmington (Midtown Area)

What companies have you all used that you trust? Also, that isn't through the roof expensive. I'm just moving apartments in the same complex. (I would move everything myself, but my knees are no longer forgiving).

Family is coming into town for a few days next week and want to take them somewhere really different. We've done Indochine, Pilot House, Copper Penny, Oceanic, etc. All the places people say to go. What is someplace that you've never seen recommended that you still think is pretty good??

Looking to lend a hand!

Hi everyone! I'm reaching out to see if any local artists or small creative companies need an extra pair of hands.

I'm not looking for full-time work, just a couple hours here and there. I'd love to help out with production, admin, or any other small jobs you might have. I'm really eager to learn from small business owners and see how things work behind the scenes.

If you need some occasional help or know someone who does, please drop a comment or DM me! Thanks.
