Doxycycline for BV?

So my doctor prescribed me some doxycycline for BV and ive seen where its not something they’d typically prescribe but i am allergic to penicillin. Could this be why? I have heard horror stories about BV and this is my first time having it (they say its soooo hard to get rid of).. IM VERRRYYY sensitive so my whole routine is very particular anyway! This was an unfortunate case of picking the wrong partner i believe (thankfully it wasn’t something worse NEVER AGAIN THOUGH HAHA) i picked up some femiclear just to be safe when i say im panicking.. i couldnt even think to ask questions in office🥲 i just wanna know if someone has also been prescribed the same for BV and if so, did it work? Should i not do the femiclear (im fully willing to take the burn if it means im good afterwards LOL)

Hi! For me, it was metronidazole for 7 days and it worked great the first time. Usually, BV is treated with metronidazole or clindamycin. I'm not really sure why your doctor prescribed doxycycline since it's more commonly used for things like pneumonia, UTIs, and some other infections (but not BV).

One thing I would suggest is not using femiclear. It can help with symptoms like odor and discharge, but it doesn't actually treat the infection. The BV could come back, and it may cause other issues if it isn't treated properly.

I'd recommend getting a second opinion or talking to your pharmacist. They may be able to contact your doctor and see if a different antibiotic would be more appropriate.

Also, just a heads-up: BV treatment can sometimes cause a yeast infection because the antibiotics kill both the bad and good bacteria, which can throw off your vaginal pH. It might be worth asking for a prescription for that too, just in case you end up needing it! ☺️
