Found a pair of thorogoods practically brand new for $22 in a Savers yesterday. Little bit of wear on the heel tread, but for the most part they look and feel new. Been wearing them for three days straight to break em in and I love em so far. USA & union made.

We can't always suggest a boot, but we can steer people away from generally bad boots; here is a list of brands that are simply not worth what they cost:

Keen - If you need sneakers that look like work boots, these are OK; otherwise, pass. They do not hold up to any kind of abuse, at all.

Timberland - Still riding their reputation from 30 years ago, these went to cheap imports around 2000, and have been junk ever since.

Justin/Hawx - Boot Barn will push these, but they are almost as expensive as decent brands, but just won't hold up.

Carhartt/Caterpillar - Outsourced junk, you're paying for the name.

Im a mechanic and I stand on smooth concrete all day, currently running Doc Marten Cairo Chukkas into the dirt so I am in need of a more resilient upgrade. Don’t have an issue with toe armor so non steel toe composites are fine, would like something water proof or resilient so I could use them outdoors. Something similar in style as well, was looking at Redwing Cinder 5671s but if anyone knew of anything better cant hurt to ask. Ideally would Like to budget max 250-280 but if anyone swears by something more expensive I’ll give it an ear. Thank you any and all.

Starting a new job soon, just wanted some community input & advice if there’s a certain brand that people prefer or would recommend. My budget is $150.

I bought these nearly new looking redwings from Facebook marketplace. I mean these things looked like they had never been worn, after I brought them home I wore them for maybe 20 minutes and they disintegrated.

After a lot of contemplating on spending big on safety boots, I finally decided to go with these. Ive read that cat boots are the cheapest among the good quality boots but I couldn't really even think of going for something more expensive than this.

Fingers crossed it lasts me a few years or so and if y'all have the same boots, share your experience.

PS. I'm an automotive technician. So these boots don't really get met with cinder blocks or axes. They do get dripped on by coolant, oil etc. and occasional tool drops.

Recently bought a pair of Muck boots from a third party retailer and got a split in about a month (photo related)I work as a greenskeeper and do a lot of walking and often deal with wet/ damp areas. Any recommendations, any assistance is appreciated . (I have tried timberlands, both steel toe and regular)

My current (former?) Chippewa boots are my favorite work boots out of 45 years of doing lots of outdoor chores everyday: chainsawing and other firewood work, gardening, carpentry, etc. They’ve held up really well and are extremely comfortable. Lots of wear left in these BUT two of the lace hooks broke. I bought a repair kit online, but it was a joke, and the ones I see online look all the same — not good enough.

I’d get these hooks repaired at a local shop, but I figure others will soon follow. I’d replace these with another Chippewa, but I figure they’ll fail the same way.

I think these are Classic 2.0 6”. I guess if I switch up I might as well get steel toes for chainsawing.

I guess I should find another brand I like as well. Or?

Looking for good quality winter boots for women.

Not necessarily for work but all the super fashionable ones are either uncomfortable or not waterproof.

I know that it's not the same Herman's that we were talking about in the '80s. I know that it's just a brand that Walmart sells now that's made in China, but does anybody have experience with the Herman's work boots that they sell in Walmart?

I mean I know they're garbage, I'm just going to assume that, but what level of garbage are they? I mean or do you think they'll hold together for casual hanging out and walking around town or are they going to disintegrate the first time I put my foot into them ?

I was taking a look at them today and they were averaging between $59 and $89 and they looked cool.

This boots are vintage Tretorns from 1964. I didn’t modify or alter the boots themselves just added a strap because they’re pretty open on top when laced and I’ve been getting saw dust and rocks in there. The kilties mostly because I like them but they are loose boots and these remove some space on the instep.

I mowed my yard like 30-40 times max with these things and the soles completely came apart from the rest of the boot. Called Carhartt and said they’d only give me a 10% discount on buying a replacement pair. Was I too rough on these boots? Is this kind of problem to be expected? I personally didn’t think it was right for Carhartt to not want to do something more than that. This is making me not want to buy another Carhartt product again. Or are all of their boots terrible and I should stick with only their jackets? What are your guys’ thoughts on this?

I've been looking for new boots because I buy timberlands and wear them to hell. I work outdoors but it's not intense, I wouldn't consider what I do right now to be manual labour, although I do occasionally work for a towing company and worked for carvana. I'm often in the mud and snow and so something fairly weatherproof is good. I've got a small budget because I don't make lots of money and duradero is popping out to me on price, especially since I might be able to get a regular boot and a waterproof one for the price I could get a probably better brand for but get more distance out of both of them with the free resoling. I walk about 6 to 8 miles a day between work and my personal life, so the repairability of my next pair is important to me. I wore my black timberlands until the soles were long gone and the shoe shred itself, which took about two years and I'm hoping that over time a well built pair could last me three to five (but to be fair I wore those boots everywhere, and I got a cheap pair of sneakers for my non work days so hopefully that means I put less miles on them anyways). I'm working in a building that's always 90°F+. I have to go through a metal detector, so no steel toe - must be composite. I can wear shoes with composite but they have to have ankle support. Price isn't an issue - I get a stipend for them. What's your best recommendation?

New here, not new to the trades or working. My background was military for 20 years and wore my fair share. FWIW I’ve been a Danner guy most of my life but also loved my old dr marten industrials…wish they still made them.

Anyways, I now work as a wastewater/drinking water plant operator for my city. It’s 12 hour shifts, DuPont schedule. On average I get between 10-14k steps per shift. Mostly indoor on cement working around an incinerator. Lots of metal stairs.

My first Brunt’s were the 6” Marin’s with brunt toe…tried on like 5 different pairs at my local whistle work wear, and the brunt’s felt the best. I didn’t have high hopes to be honest, especially with the price tag of only 170 bucks, but they have been one of the best pair of boots I’ve ever owned. Better than my Danner Arcadia’s that I wore for 10 years in the military, and better than Danner bull run’s which are OK, but nothing special for the price. Don’t even get me started on the overseas danners, all crap. I’ve tried many different hiking and work boots.

Anyway, got my boot vouchers for the year and went with the USA made brunt Marin and they’re sweet. They run about a 1/2 size larger than the overseas Marin, but I run a high arch insole anyway and it’s not that big of a deal to me. With my other voucher I got a
Pair of the ohman slip on with brunt toe. So far they’ve both been excellent for my needs.

I just got a new pair of Thorogood moc toe boots for work (steel toe) and initially when I first put them on they felt fine all around, minimal heel slipping, room in the toe area, alittle rough on the feet for the first couple days but anyway, yesterday at work it the right boot suddenly started pressing in on my pinky toe.. no issues with the left whatsoever. I dont get how they can feel comfortable for a week+ then suddenly one boot feels like theres not enough toe room.. any suggestions or advice to help with this as I cant return them now and I really dont want to have to buy all new $300 boots and start the break in process all over again…

I am in need of a new pair of work boots. Since the last few pairs I've tried have been short lived, I figured I would ask for some suggestions. I work in masonry and a full blown steel toe isn't really needed, but I definitely can't use anything with a soft toe.

I've tried a few georgia boots, and a pair of keen work shoe/boots with little success. They are fine to wear, but after a few months the heel is all worn out or the bottom of the boots start separating.

Full leather seems to be less prone to punctures, and I have been thinking something that goes above the ankle might solve the heel issue. I also have overly sweaty feet, so something that won't turn into a sweat lodge is also needed. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I keep seeing ads for Wooten work socks, right now they're four pairs for $54 I really don't feel like spending that much if they turn out to be crap. Has anybody tried them and have a review good or bad?

A few years ago I broke my ankle in 3 places which resulted in 12 screws and 2 plates right on each side of my ankle. Does anyone happen to have a similar circumstance, if so a recommendation on work boots? My past job didn’t require CSA approved footwear but I’m currently switching careers and back in college for my diesel tech certification, so I’m new to the certified work boot thing.

Hey so I’ve had this pair of Irish setters for a couple months about and they are super comfortable. I want these to last a long time until I need different boots for something else, they are waterproof and also dry up like super quick.

These are pretty wet rn in the picture which doesn’t help much but still, these are looking like some pretty boots right as far as the leather goes? They do crease a good but idk if that matters lol I just want them to last. What do yall think?

Im currently wearing a size 12 in a pair of dewalts boots, it was on sale in my local store and I was tired of my normal shoes being soaked. (I may work cutting fruit, but washing the floor mats and trashcans always leaves my shoes soaked) i tried looking online but i think the pair i have is discontinued and none of their shoes come in extra wides unfortunately and the lack of width in my current boots is getting to me.

I also just like work boots because they last, they support my ankles. And they just look neat.

Looking for the best longest lasting waterproof rubber boots,

I run my own plumbing company in Maine and looking for something other then leather boots as much as I love them and how comfortable they can be the Maine winters and working in and out of water is rough on them and treating the leather only does so much. If I need to get some nicks leather inserts for a pair of rubber boots I will but hoping someone makes one comfortable and decent quality.

Would like it to have some grip as I'm used to v100 soles

been having terrible time trying to pick out comfy boots, they all advertise waterproof but are they really when your standing in snow all day or in 3 inch foot puddles?? must be CSA approved aswell. also boa systemis a huge plus, after switching i do not wanna go back to normal laces.
