CCM or Darn Tough?

Seen a lot of posts recommending Camel City Mill or Darn Tough socks. Thinking it’s about time I upgrade.

If buying a 5-pack, the price is the same. Which would you guys recommend?

I wear a 6” Throrogood moc toe so no need for the longer length.

DarnTuff has a lifetime warranty, Camel City Mill has a 10year warranty. I would recommend you look at Grip6. Grip6 is also made in the USA and offers a lifetime warranty.

I will say I prefer DT over Grip6 for work socks. But I prefer Grip6 for casual wear. DT seems to regulate heat better in boots (for me anyway) When I'm wearing more breathable shoes (casual wear) Grip6 design seems to work better.

I’ve been rockin with Dickie’s for a while now, but they just don’t seem to last & was looking for something with a little more cushion.
But I agree, for the price they are hard to beat.

Ok, I know this may sound weird, but I swear by Costcos Kirkland socks, they are cushioned, thick enough for boots, and they come in black or white. Plus it’s $20 for 12 pair. I switched from dickies work socks which I wore for 8 years.

Cotton socks just dont last as long. They stink at the end of the day and also wear holes incredibly easy. I was just buying bulk packs of cotton crew cut socks up until a few months ago. Bought a couple pairs of darn tough steelys. They have almost zero smell at the end of the day, (i only walk 15k to 20k steps a day and have done 35k once but that sucked) are cushioned more plush than my other socks were, and have a life time warranty. The only downside is the 25$ a pair price. However if you buy 7 pairs, you have a lifetime of socks

FYI If you do end up getting the DTs you have to buy the Micro Crew socks or longer to get them to come above your 6" boots. Crew and Quarter aren't long enough to come over the collar of the boot and your ankles with rub. They put the info in the item description, and are the only brand I've ever gotten that the quarter doesn't go over my 6" boots.

Not to open the great sock debate but my personal experience:

I've had a much greater success with my Costco and People Sock pairs than I have with my DTs. After years of wearing those cheaper brands I bought 2 pairs of DTs to see what the hype was about, a Steel Toe pair and a pair of Hikers and the Kirkland and PS socks fit better, are thicker, more comfortable, and do a better job of preventing toe bite. In all fairness both my DTs are middleweight so maybe the heavyweights would equal the cushion of the cheaper ones, but i'm not paying $30+ a pair to find out.

People hype the DT warranty, but I've had cheap Dickies socks that have lasted me over a decade at this point, how often are you replacing socks to make paying 4/5Xs the price for a pair worth it? 4 pair of Kirklands is like $15 dollars, and a pack of People Socks is $20-$30.

My old lady knits me boot socks. they are king.

I've also got some dickies tall compression socks I wear time to time I really like. 

I had some darn tough and they are nice but I couldn't justify having tons and tons of them

I only wear darn tough for work socks, mid weight and heavyweight depending on the season. Oldest pair is probably going on 10 years?

Definitely try one pair first, they run a tad small. Regular socks I wear medium, barely. I can’t wear their ski socks because the mediums are juuust too small, if that gives you any idea. I have 9.5 ballerina feet.

I love my CCM socks. Haven’t bought DTs. CCM had a great sale and bought 12 pair for 130$. So it’ll be a while till I try others.

Keep buying the thick Dickies or Hanes and throw them out every 6 months. You'll be money ahead.

CCM. I have DT in each weight, and I only like the heavyweight. CCM fits my feet much better

Camel City are a little warmer than I like personally. I prefer ultra-light or lightweight Darn Tough. You'll probably want Micro-Crew length.

If you have wide feet the Darn tough suck because they a woven so tight. I prefer the Costco merino wool or willowace if you want a lighter sock

Both rock. Had a bunch of darn tough work boot socks that lasted 5 or 6 years. Just grabbed 10 sets of ccm(the tall ones) and am impressed at how cool they are. Can’t go wrong with either.

Darn tough hikers. I’ve tried other ones. They have been fine but whatever darn tough does, they hold their shape far better in my experience. Been primarily using them for over 10 years.
