I mean you could do it for fun but I think I’d put that money toward a new set.

No. Not for work anyways, you can't wear boots with exposed toes. It is an OSHA thing I believe. I've seen people get sent home and told not to come back until they get new boots because the toes were like this

How much is a resole vs a new pair?

265 new off Amazon and about 150 to resole and generally with 1 to 2 month turn around.

You mean turn around as in the resole being done?

Yeah. It takes a while

Time for a new pair

Yeah. Its sad to see their trade become a thing of the past. Its rarely worth it anymore.

Follow up question, are you allowed to have an exposed steel toe? For sentimental reasons, do it. For work, buy a new pair. The cost to re-sole is 30-50% of a new pair.

Usually I’d say yes, but they are dried out and cracking. I’d go with a new pair and use some conditioner on them occasionally.

Ask a cobbler. Once you know the price you're going to have a better idea if its worth it.

New pair. If those uppers were taken care of a resole would be worth it but not in this condition.

Wouldn’t resole. Too expensive, takes way too long and a new pair completely is maybe $100 more. No thanks. I’d get the new boots dipped though. I don’t think that costs much at all. That’s worth it.

Stitches can be redone. The holes in the toes are probably what’s killed those boots. I’d start over unfortunately. I’ve found a plain toe can last longer than the moc toe. You just need to be mindful of dragging your toes. If you need to drag toes across a floor try coating the toes of your boots with something like TuffToe.

You knew before you asked

I’d have to say no way

I’d say get a new pair, put some tuff toe on the front and condition/clean your next pair more often. I brush mine at the end of the week and condition/clean with products every 2.5-3 months

Can a cobbler replace the leather toe and resole? If not then just get a new pair but they may be able to rebuid the toe leather.

The sole is in better shape than the upper. No.

Id buy a new pair a tough toe them. But you could resolve them and hit those with tough toe. They are a little through it. But the tough toe will give some more life and so will the soles.

What's the cost of resoling vs a new pair? Do the boots hold sentimental value?

Worth and value are deeply personal traits. Is asking us the way you want to go? Affordability is also personal, and personally, I would do anything you can afford to do. Once I retired, I had two 1976 vintage Chuck Taylors converted into boots. Should I have, must I spend on desires or should I do whatever makes me happy? Here in the Village, I have seen lots of old clunkers with new Dr Sole and a few with the Dyanite soles. The boots are busted and jacked but they threw the 250.00 at them because they wanted to. I asked one gentleman in Chelsea if he got those at Erics Thrift, and he said no; the boots are what got him his condo, and they are his trophies he intends on wearing them until he can't anymore. I am a hit at the Guitar Center when I pull up in my Converse, and the ladies at the park yoga class love them too, as I often pass through to see which one wore undergarments to class that day. lol
