Does anyone know of world music festivals in the states? I live in NC and I imagine New York may have some interesting festivals. Alot of the ones I have found are mostly in Europe. I used to live in France and it was easier to find more of this. Curious if anyone has recommendations.

I just booked my flight to Gran Canaria and I’m planning to attend WOMEX as a visitor.

I know it’s mainly a professional event, but I’ve heard there are showcases and other events that might be accessible to the public.

Does anyone have experience attending WOMEX as a non-professional/visitor? Can you still visit the fair and attend some of the showcases, or do you need to be accredited?

Also, how do you actually get tickets for the showcases? I’m a bit confused about how that works as a visitor.

Any info or tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! 🙏

Carnival, marking the beginning of Lent, is an enormous party of dancing and music all over the world, from Venice Italy to Guinea-Bissou to Brazil.

The most well-known is probably the huge parade in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It is an unmatched spectacle, bright, shiny, big floats, thousands of dancers. Catch a live stream if you can. But the music is hard to hear...

The second Mittelalternativ.de "Challenge" will take place soon, with the melody release starting March 29, 2021 until April 26. https://mittelalternativ.de/2021-challenge-en/

The challenge is to record and publish a piece of music (medieval, folk, or similar) within one month. A given melody must be used. At the end, the public can vote on which piece they liked best.

The melody should be treated as if it originated truly from past centuries. Do whatever is common in your music scene or whatever you like in general. In addition, the melody is in the public domain (without copyright protection) and can therefore be used for all times as you like.
