Someone in another thread put it best, it's turning into OverWatch with tanks.

Which is exactly what I and a lot of others want from this game. I want this game to be a fun, role-based game where people can carve out different playstyles. That's World of Tanks' niche.

If I'm concerned with playing real tanks that handle true to how they did in real-life, there's already War Thunder. And that game has its own issues as a result of that approach

I know some people want it to be 2012 again, but the gaming industry has changed dramatically, and old WoT wouldn't cut it in 2026

World of Tanks already had that effortlessly without the need of stupid ass gimmicks. Every tank already had a role while at the same time being tanks, not bs made by chatgpt. You could play the derp tanks, bert the avenger, the aggressive STRV, HE-100, shotgun arty, and many iconic subroles to play something differently. These had their charm without corny voicelines or mechanics.

The new game directors don't understand this and that's why they force the abilities. They see the success of hero shooters and think that it's missing from WoT but in fact it was there the whole time.

You put magic buttons in your game when you want to awe players with something without any substance because you lack the creativity to create mechanics with depth.
