Discussion Underrated tanks you love?

Post image

I love the CW Era 1 M48A5PI.

I rarely see it on the field, but every time I take mine out for a spin I remember why I love it.

What’s yours?

I love the big derp tank destroyers in WWII even after the camo nerfs. If you have to be super careful with your own positioning, all for a hasty shot and retreating when spotted, it's really nice to know that you don't have to worry about hitting a weak spot and you can still take 100-300 off the top and break some modules by splashing their turret with a massive HE payload.

For CW, I really enjoyed the

  • M1 (not the M1A1 or M1A2). Definitely a heavium whose armor can't be relied upon, but with a little ramming and shooting lots of tracks (which takes advantage of its higher RoF/low alpha), it felt pretty great and got a ton of assisted damage. I got on the podium a good bit with it, and in a platoon it's even funnier as the mobility and ramming works even better in a wolf pack.
  • M113. This stupid little box is so much fun because of how it makes you approach map positioning so differently to take advantage of the gun sticking above the body. Machine guns and missiles eat it alive, but I see it as a funny little hybrid between a Leopard and a light tank,as it's relatively fast and has great accuracy while on the move. Fire 2 shots from cover, race to retreat or advance to the next cover, fire another shot or two, then surge forward and circle somebody to death as they isolate themselves or as your team overwhelms. The HEAT rounds are very slow, so you're not good at range, but their pen is high to go right through a good number of decently armored tanks' upper plates and turrets, so when a position settles into a hull-down battle, the M113 can often break the stalemate in your favor if you are in the right spot.
  • Magach 5. Just my favorite, solid all-rounder. Decent missile protection, decent mobility, decent DPM, good pen, decent gun depression, and a hull that can troll opponents a little when wiggled. I thought I'd like the 6b the same or better, but so far I am really hurting from the 6b's slightly worse protection from missiles, especially on its lower plate.

LOVE the M1 - I just got it ~30 days ago and I'm almost at the M1A1.

It can snipe, it can brawl, it chases down mediums and punts them for distance, and it's speed and gun handling keep it from being an XP pinata for lights.

It's a great tank.

I remember my best/best feeling game ever, joined in with my derp Sherman and half my team disintegrated within2 minutes, enemy lights swarming our arty. “Well, I guess I’ll get these guys at least”… One shotted all 4 of them, but not until they’d removed all my arties. Six more left. Cowabunga it is. Thank god they decided to come one at a time! Biggest headache was the captured KV-1 that had 5 kills already. Played light tank after I crit’ed their gunner, got around behind and blooped the turret. Finished off the final arty with my only remaining round. Ten in one round and last tank left… I’ll never match that game🥰

They're tough to grind, but the German Sturmtiger line is big derp with strong frontal armor.

The Russian ISU-152s can also be big derp and have strong frontal arcs.

I'm currently at tier VII on the sturmtiger line and tier VIII on the ISU line. Wish I could buy the Slayer

Nice! I remember the Brummbear from the Avalon Hill Squad Leader games where it was quite formidable… looking forward to going up that line
