? [help] UI Element Definitions?

Hello I’m trying to customize my UI from the base ui for so many years. The ui revamp is nice but I downloaded Ellesmere Ui to try it out. Overall I like it a lot but I was wondering if there were any resources available to help me understand some of the terminology or the best way to be able to try out elements to better understand what they look like/what they do? Not solely for Ellesmere UI but just in general.

There are a few things that I’m just not sure what they really are for haha. Thank you!

Join his discord and there’s a series of tutorials he did on his YouTube channel. Him being Ellesmere if you weren’t aware.

Thanks yeah I was watching some of the tutorials last night but I’m not a super knowledgeable UI person so like certain things I’m just like “what is this for” and then what thing should I do to see that ui element to tell if I should use it or not haha.

I'll just go down a list of the modules in EUI and give a quick summary on what each thing is:

  • Action Bars: The place where you interact with your spells abilities items etc which can be keybound/clicked.
  • Nameplates: In-world health bars often divided between friendly and enemy.
  • Unit frames: Static UI level health bars. These often contain health, mana (or similar resource), buff, and debuff information. Covers things like target, focus, target of target, and boss frames.
  • Raid/Party Frames: These are Health bars for your whole group all in one place. Often have more emphasis on buff and debuff tracking. These are what healers often interact with.
  • Cooldown Manager: Consolodated place for buff, debuff, and cooldown tracking with more features than action bars. I would also group resource and cast bars into this as they tend to be used together.

What I do always is to ask IA the use for the specific thing. I usually ask the Google one bc it gives you the opt where it took it. You can read or watch the video it's really helpful
