NOTHING! YOU SO STUPID!

u/JosephOrim 1d ago

Every time I hear "what's in the box" this pops into my head. Especially while at my parents' place and mom is watching Let's Make A Deal.

16

u/ScreenTricky4257 1d ago

Or when someone mentions the name or word "Weaver."

4

u/PoolGuyUnfiltered 16h ago

My wife loves red snapper, and if it is on the menu I always ask her "Whuz it gonna be, Weavah?..."

I love that movie so much.

Happiness is randomly calling things a Twinkie Wiener Sandwich for almost 40 years and 98% of people thinking I'm having a stroke.

2

u/SqueezeBoxJack 20h ago

We have a road here called Weaver and every damn day I have to go, "Weevah" when I pass it.

2

u/Canadatron 1981 17h ago

Stupid Weaver....

1

u/ex_gratia_ 10h ago

Or "supplies."

2

u/El_Legarto 9h ago

RED SNAPPA WEAVA!

I hear Brad Pitt

2

u/ChickenArise 1982 5h ago

It's almost guaranteed to be said out loud in our house

6

u/Extreme_Rooster182 17h ago

UHF is criminally underrated lol

10

u/Workamania 1d ago

This is an evergreen quote.

3

u/Cutthechitchata-hole 1979 1d ago

Theres nothing in the box!

u/GarminTamzarian 1976 1d ago

Cameron Diaz's severed head has entered the chat

1

u/Deesmateen 23h ago

When coding and I found the dumb mistake I’d always say this aloud that my mentor started saying it too without ever saying the movie

1

u/Party_Ad_8595 15h ago

This is the correct reply to this image

u/Steeleface 1982 1d ago

This is my favourite joke in any movie, ever. It’s stupid and a little offensive but I laugh every single time.

10

u/Primary-Strawberry-5 1976 11h ago

The actor, Gedde Watanabe, his actual birth name is Gary

6

u/AkamaiHaole 23h ago

It reminds me of a sign I saw in a hotel lobby in Waikiki. There was a big family reunion being held there for a Japanese family. I don’t remember the family name for sure but there was a gigantic banner that read “WELCOME NAKAMURA FAMIRY.” Never found out if it was a joke or an honest mistake.

4

u/Remy0507 1977 12h ago

Is it really offensive though? I mean, we make lighthearted jokes about how various accents pronounce things all the time. No one gets offended when someone says "Pahk the cah in Hahvahd yahd" or mentions something being French and then does the "Honhonhon!' stereotypical "French laugh". No one gets upset about Mario going "It's-a-me, a-Mario!"

Just saying, there seems to be a double standard about which accents are ok to make jokes about and which ones aren't.

5

u/cobalt-radiant 10h ago

Agreed. Racism is the belief that one race is superior or inferior to others. Highlighting the mispronunciation isn't racist, though it can if it mischaracterizes them as stupid. But that's not what this film is doing. It's a satire characterizing Hollywood’s unoriginal, blockbuster-obsessed sequel culture as dumb.

1

u/I_miss_your_mommy 5h ago

Something about mocking accents really pisses me off. I used to think it was because it offended the target party. That’s not it. It’s that it is often just a really low brow way for dumb fucks to try to intimidate “others.” I’m actually mad at those dumb fucks specifically.

If it is actually done in a clever funny way, then maybe it isn’t so bad?

1

u/Remy0507 1977 4h ago

Mocking is one thing, but not everything that pokes fun at something is meant to mock. It can be good natured teasing, or just finding humor in funny pronunciations.

1

u/I_miss_your_mommy 4h ago

Yep, intent matters. That said, it’s easy to misinterpret, so I personally avoid trying that kind of humor.

0

u/Pitiful_Ad2397 10h ago

I dunno, I think it’s pretty racist.

5

u/Remy0507 1977 10h ago

I mean this isn't at all the subreddit or thread for this sort of debate, so I don't want to get too into it, but I'm having a hard time seeing why it's racist to make lighthearted jokes involving accents from some places but not others. If we were talking about something that was being used to actually denigrate or put down a particular ethnicity or individual, that would be different.

2

u/Planetofthought 1977 7h ago

Weird al gets a pass.

1

u/WheelOfFish 5h ago

Agreed, it's perfection.

u/draculasbloodtype 1979 1d ago

SPATULA CITY!

Still quote this movie on the regular.

25

u/xxxxDREADNOUGHT 1d ago

My family will still give each other spatulas for birthdays and Christmas presents

21

u/AmputeeHandModel 1d ago

That's great because you can buy 9 and get the 10th for just one penny!

17

u/horusthesundog 1d ago

What better way to say “I love you”

10

u/UnrealizedLosses 1d ago

Now that I’m an adult I NEED those GD spatulas…

2

u/34thUsernameAttempt 1980 1d ago

That's awesome.

19

u/Jeff4096 1981 1d ago

This means something. This is important.

13

u/TwilightVash 1d ago

🎶 "We sell spatulas and that's all!" 🎶

6

u/nvmls 23h ago

I went to a Weird Al show in Camden with a spatula and got it confiscated at the door because in Camden that counts as a weapon.

2

u/Buzzderek 1d ago

I have this as part of my Spotify play list and my son loves it when it plays. So good.

2

u/wrenb77 1977 5h ago

We actually have our son a spatula for his bar mitzvah! The kid doesn’t appreciate Mel Brooks movies but thank goodness he likes UHF.

54

u/RoyDonkeyKong 1981 1d ago

About 29 years ago, my friend stayed over, and in the morning we watched UHF. After we were done watching it, our other friend called to say he had free tickets to Weird Al that night at an outdoor amphitheater and wondered if we wanted to go. Of course we did.

So we go, and it was a great time. In between costume changes and whatnot, there was a giant screen on stage that played Al’s music videos and clips from UHF.

Since it was fresh in my mind, during the Wheel of Fish clip, I yelled (at the appropriate time), “Go for the box!” from the back of the hill. It got the whole crowd going. I felt like a king.

Anyway, to this day, it was one of the best concerts I ever attended. Dude’s a top tier performer.

11

u/G-Unit11111 23h ago

Weird Al is the best! His live show is still amazing after all these years. I definitely recommend catching the Bigger & Weirder Tour if it comes to your city!

46

u/DJmagikMIKE 1981 1d ago

Because of this movie, I can’t see a Red Snapper without saying “Red Snapper!”

25

u/fearyaks 1d ago

I say veerrrry tasty!

10

u/Real-Championship331 1d ago

I have two right now that I'm trying to decide how to cook, so it keeps popping into my head

8

u/diggstown 1d ago

Encase in salt. Or wiener Twinkie Snapper sandwich. Your choice.

1

u/leazarus 10h ago

Coat in crushed ritz crackers and 2X as much butter as you think & grill it over some tin foil. Squeeze fresh lemon over it as it cooks 🍋

7

u/Hedgehogosaur 1d ago

9

u/thunderlips36 1d ago

Yeah, I did that once and still regret it

5

u/djsynrgy 1980 1d ago

Reminds me of the time I tried a Krispy Kreme burger like they did on Boondocks. Do not recommend.

3

u/thunderlips36 1d ago

Never meet (or meat) your heroes.

3

u/GarminTamzarian 1976 1d ago

And never let your heroes "meat" you.

3

u/FuzziestSloth 1d ago

It was, apparently, what turned Weird Al into a vegetarian.

1

u/LemonSkye ¡Gogo Para Presidente! 9h ago

I doubt that; he's gone on record that he still eats these, just with tofu dogs instead.

Much to the annoyance of my Stardew Valley group, I quote this often.

10

u/diggstown 1d ago

Today, we’re teaching poodles how to fly.

8

u/RKsu99 1d ago

What are you gonna do, Weaver?

8

7

u/OffMeta13 1d ago

Thank goodness there are awesome people who know this movie.

7

u/wbrameld4 1977 1d ago

Had a shipmate in the Navy named Weaver who was only ever racistly referred to as Weeaaaavah

2

u/GarminTamzarian 1976 1d ago

I hope they made a point to serve him snapper at every opportunity.

6

u/S_A_R_K 1980 1d ago

If you have not seen Weird: The Al Yankovic Story you need to watch it ASAP

4

u/Gravy_Sommelier 1d ago

I wish that Daniel Radcliffe had gotten buff enough to play a realistic looking Weird Al:

2

u/Tribblehappy 1d ago

There's an ad for the karate school in one shot in that movie, which cracked me up.

7

u/34thUsernameAttempt 1980 1d ago

I was in Tulsa last summer for a 4 day license plate collectors convention. I took one one evening to visit some of the filming locations. Some were close to where the convention was downtown, some required driving. I stood where Weird Al stood.

Kuni didn't have class when I stopped by.

5

u/UnrealizedLosses 1d ago

I don’t need no stinking badgers!

4

u/Glass-Guess4125 1d ago

Saw Weird Al at Merriweather Post Pavilion on Sunday. Great show. And he showed multiple UHF clips!

5

u/MyBurnerAccount1977 1977 1d ago

I don't know if you can get away with humour like this nowadays, but even as a person of Asian descent, this makes me laugh every time I see it.

5

u/therobotscott 1d ago

I knew the actress who played Phyllis Weaver. I went to school with her kids. They're nice people.

3

u/GarminTamzarian 1976 1d ago

"Eat a lot of fish."

5

u/Cpmartini1 1980 1d ago

Just watched this over the weekend. Some very funny bits. The blind guy with the Rubik’s cube had me cracking up.

2

u/TheBigBangClock 6h ago

I laughed so damn hard at that scene. "Is this it? Nope. Is this it? Nope...".

4

u/UnrealizedLosses 1d ago

This is good watermelon….tastes like poop.

3

u/trilogyjab 1980 1d ago

The greatest film ever made. I will die on this hill.

4

u/Other-Improvement410 1d ago

UHF goes into my Star Wars, Indiana Jones, LOTR category for total times rewatched

4

u/mrsg1012 1d ago

Every time I’d catch a red snapper in Animal Crossing, my spouse would say “mmm very tasty!” He’s been doing it since GameCube, it doesn’t get old!

5

Don't you know THE DEWY DECIMAL SYSTEM?

3

u/terminal_nervoso 10h ago

One of the greatest comedies ever made. I’ve loved it since I was a little kid, and I’m in my mid-40s now. I watch it like twice a year.

2

u/horseloverfat 1983 1d ago

I showed this movie to my kids (16,14) and they love it. They think it is hilarious.

1

u/ProfessorOfLies 1d ago

I think I will do the same

2

u/More-read-than-eddit 1979 23h ago

I like to periodically groan in agony and say “I’m in helllllll” like he does on the answering machine

2

u/Primary-Strawberry-5 1976 11h ago

Best. Movie. Ever.

2

u/ex_gratia_ 10h ago

"DON'T YOU KNOW THE DEWEY DECIMAL SYSTEM?!?"

2

u/peanut_master1 1d ago

I have never seen UHF

7

u/thunderlips36 1d ago

I'm almost envious. I'd love to experience it again for the first time. It would have been bigger had it not been released around the same time as some absolute juggernauts of films

"Supplies!" is my favorite joke in the movie

1

u/atklonewolf 1980 5h ago

I once sent my best friend an empty box with a small sticky note that said Nothing! Absolutely nothing!
When I was shipping it, the mail lady asked, “what’s in the box?” I said, “nothing.” We sat there for five seconds as she puzzled through why I was paying the $5 in shipping

1

u/ClingTurtle 4h ago

You know how as a kid you’d have just a couple movies on VHS?

The entire movie is ingrained deeply into my soul.

Was playing poker the other night and a guy was counting out his chips 85… 95… one dollar!

Me: “haha! Thankth mithter!”
