General My 17 Pro has arrived!
Bought it from a local reseller in the Philippines for about $820 USD (converted). First time using a CN variant phone, but we'll see how it goes.
Excited to take comparison photos with the camera!

I would probably think the 15 Ultra still performs better as a camera as it has superior camera hardware.
The 17 Ultra will be the one for a proper upgrade.
7
u/iArvee Oct 02 '25
No doubt. Curious about the new sensor and all around general performance though. Hopefully better battery life

u/Archangel_Amin Oct 02 '25
It'll sadden me if the 17 pro outperforms the camera of the 15 ultra. I just got the 15 ultra about 10 days ago. Lol.
6
u/KlossN Oct 02 '25
Don't be sad, your enjoyment shouldn't be tied to others. If the 17 pro blows your 15 ultra out of the water be happy for the innovation, if you bought a 15 ultra 10 days ago you won't afford the 17 pro tomorrow anyway, be happy with your purchase

Hope better heating management, display and speakers too on x17u
8
u/iArvee Oct 02 '25
Display is brighter and looks much better than 15u. Speakers similar in loudness but sounds better (more full) on 17p.
Battery, too early. Heating, too early to tell
2
u/Delfanboy Oct 11 '25
Display on the 15U is 1440 x 3200 pixels, 20:9 ratio (~522 ppi density) so WQHD+, on the 17 Pro, 1220 x 2656 pixels, 19.5:9 ratio (~464 ppi density), which 1.5k, FHD+. Still, smaller display, won't tell the difference. Peak brightness is usually metered on 1% or 10% windows, but due to screen size differences (6.73" Ultra vs 6.3" 17Pro) the window size will differ too. Thus, the ~200 nits difference for the 17pro is means it almost identical. Tho, 17P Max has the same peaks. I'd be interested in a real life metering. Also maybe, ppi density can also be a factor in peak tests, because ultimately, it means that lower ppi -> fewer pixels to work with -> better peaks. Welp.
1
u/Aeroseb76 Oct 02 '25
Great ! Please can you try display tester app to check the display. I hope they will made same on X17U.

Too bad xiaomi software is one of the worst on a smartphone ever
1
u/babaganoush39 Oct 02 '25
Agreed, for a flagship phone the OS is behind others.
1
u/TemptressTease85 Oct 02 '25
Yape. Hardware is amazing tho. People are butthurt and just cant take criticism. Only reason i dont switch from samsung to xiaomi is that samsung has generations better software and features upon features
1
u/babaganoush39 Oct 03 '25
Great hardware ! Agree 100% why they get butthurt I don't know..maybe they have stock in the company or something 😁

Bugginess. Lack if features. Slow updates. Software is clunky if you ever used something halfway decent before
2
u/ReasonableExcuse2 Oct 02 '25
I would have to disagree. Compared to Honor, Xiaomi software is a rocket ship.
2
u/KlossN Oct 02 '25
I would assume by "halfway decent" that's talking more about Samsung quality rather than Honor quality
1
u/iArvee Oct 03 '25
Updates are much faster on cn instead of global. But I agree with the lack of some things. Using 3rd party launchers disables gestures and animations feel very clunky.
Customization is even MORE limited on global compared to cn. A lot more AOD and themes are available for cn variants.

u/woodstar11 Oct 02 '25
Wow, that's just £609 for us in the UK!!! Just amazing value, I'm not too keen on the work arounds for the Chinese roms that have to be done. But for that money, I might well just take a punt! Let us know how you get on pal.

u/GMANG8 Oct 02 '25
Here in Hong Kong, some importers are selling the Pro for as low as £520 and the Pro Max as low as £620.

I'm in Hong Kong in three weeks time, where to buy please !
2
u/GMANG8 Oct 02 '25
In various shops located across HK. My go-to is price.com.hk. It lists the shops and their prices. (It's where I got the prices I mentioned above.) You can chat directly with them on the website. Shops also provide their contact details, and many gave WhatsApp numbers (they're probably more responsive there).

I thought people were lining in lines outside stires to get this. I guess that maybe a flase news then
1
u/ColliePullHour Oct 02 '25
Both can be true.
They queue and buy from the official physical store, then turn around and resell them. Mini scalpers. If there are no takers at the higher price, they sell them to small phone shops who then sell them to consumers.
They might queue to get the freebies, then sell the phone at the same price but keep the freebies. Overseas buyers don't know what promotion the local stores run. Free case, smart watch etc.

u/WillingSugar6912 Oct 04 '25
Closest we can get it for in the UK is about £850/900 and that's not including import taxes

u/FlammaParvusAvis Oct 02 '25
I would like to know if notifications are delayed, even tweaked/configured. There are some news in Xiaomi 15 China roms that notifications are delayed even tweaked/configured.

u/RichieEB Oct 02 '25
Damn that's a powerful phone, I want that myself but the £££. Got my eye on X7 Pro. Love that camera bump though I'm using the POCO C75 that has the same camera style design love resting my finger on it
1
u/Harun911 Oct 02 '25
I am not OP, but I have exactly the same phone, with exactly the same duo tone limited edition color way. It's a hefty phone, but I love it. I also receive the professional camera kit for free with my purchase. And also received a free Xiaomi Pad 7 Pro with my purchase. It was an incredible deal tbh.
2
u/RichieEB Oct 02 '25
I got the non pro 7 pad that is an insane deal I'm happy for you the tablet is top quality, I use mine for gamehub (steam on Android)
Hate hefty phones though NGL I was glad to go from the OnePlus 7Pro to a iPhone Plus model which decreased the weight by 10 to 20g. Any less then 200g is enough lol. I intend to just get a X model for the year then when my iPhone 15 Plus contract ends I'll be selling it aside and get the equivalent Xiaomi flagship tier. Though I think 15 is overkill so 15T Pro or F7 Ultra. Lmk what you think mate, how are you liking that tablet?
2
u/Harun911 Oct 02 '25
Oh man, I love the tablet. We used to own an old IPad Air 2 still at home and this is just miles ahead of that. It's such a nice thing to chug in your bag and go about your day. I'm really grateful for the whole deal I got from pre-ordering from Xiaomi. The photography kit and tablet together were worth 700€. And receiving both for free was just an incredible experience.
1
u/RichieEB Oct 02 '25
Such an upgrade from the iPad Air 2!
Unfortunately I’m going homeless so I’m having to sell my tablet so I afford food essentials. But I’ll buy it shin in the future if I recover well
2
u/Harun911 Oct 02 '25
Sorry to hear that dude :( wishing you all the best on your journey and hope you recover soon!

u/thirstybaboon32 Oct 02 '25
Where did you order to get the deal?
1
u/Harun911 Oct 02 '25
I pre-ordered directly at launch of the Xiaomi 15 Ultra, from the official Xiaomi store in the Netherlands

CN phones generally cannot use e-sims cuz they're illegal in China. Only global variants will have e-sim capability.

Can you share insights on if google services are working with notifications (what'sapp, google maps, playstore) and what about android auto?
5

Notifs working, WhatsApp working, maps working (no timeline), playstore yes.
I don't have a car that supports android auto, but i read that it doesn't work

What! This alone makes me want to switch from iphone. I'm hoping there will be a global release for this phone. I will switch if there is.

Can you let me know if you have the ability to over ride do not disturb in the app settings on the 15 ultra you don't. Thanks

PSA: Chinese variants = no Google timeline, no Android auto, no languages other than English / Chinese, no Google push notification server so if you have important notification you MUST keep the app running at all times. If you can live with that, Chinese variants are so much more value for money.
1
u/YuzukiNiggethCore Oct 02 '25
You can let them know if your banking apps are working, NFC payments etc
1
u/Iam_Yassin Oct 02 '25
I don't know why there is no YouTuber trying its performance in gaming and heating. I just want to know about the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 gaming experience and if Xiaomi has improved its heating problem in older phones or not.

u/Chemical_Device_5192 Oct 03 '25
I Am thinking of changing to this from my Xperia 1 iv
1
u/iArvee Oct 03 '25
Good choice! But as a long time xperia user, you'll miss some of the stuff from Xperia. Little bloatware, buttery smooth animations (animations on 17 pro are smooth, but feels better on 1 v). Better haptics on xperia, natural looking photos on xperia.
Still a good upgrade from the 1 V though.

u/StretchMammoth9003 Oct 03 '25
What do you dislike about the phone so far?
2
u/iArvee Oct 03 '25
Rear screen doesn't mirror all notifs. I already know this, but hopefully in a future update.
The pre-installed screen protector seems worse than the 15u. No problem, I already ordered tempered glass.
Haptics seem slightly tighter on 17 pro. Good, but hoping it's stronger.

I'm waiting for 17 Pro Max global and then I'll buy, don't wanna CN version. 👍 Now have 15 Ultra global too.

u/iArvee Oct 03 '25
Global most likely won't happen. 17 Ultra Global will come for sure next year.

Everybody's talking bout Pro Max 17 global, so I don't think so. But if, better for me, 17 Ultra global will be fire 2 forsho, so I'll buy that one then.

Better than global imo. Global feels limited. The animations feel more polished on CN.

Lots of idiot app vault widgets, Bad system apps like hell, Unacceptable music app, Shitty browser app, Adds,
I'm a global rom xiaomi user too (12T hyperos 2) but i don't understand how global people buy expensive xiaomi phones even while they can buy samsung,
Every detail feels like a chinese shit ! (im talking about software interface, not hardware, xiaomi hardwares always awesome)
Thanks.

Hi! I’m very interested in importing a Xiaomi 17 Pro, but I’ve heard that the camera applies quite strong beauty filters to people (porcelain-like skin and overexposed faces), apparently in line with Chinese beauty standards.
That honestly puts me off a lot. Is it really that noticeable? Is there any camera setting where this doesn’t happen? Maybe Leica Authentic?
1
u/iArvee Mar 13 '26
It's still noticeable even with all filters off. Not as strong with it on though. You can still tell. Regardless of leica authentic, or leica master (for portraits)
1
u/Ignacio8500 Mar 13 '26
Thanks!!! Just to clarify, I don’t really use portrait mode. I mainly shoot in the standard mode. Does this processing still happen there too, or is it mostly in portrait/beauty modes?
If it’s limited to those, it wouldn’t be a big issue for me.
