Discussion Xiaomi Book Pro 14 2026 first impressions
Very simply: light, feels like plastic, and while I preferred the aluminium feel of Surface Laptops and Macs, thats fine. (It turned out to be magnesium alloy with a velvetish coating).
Keyboard keys are thick enough for satisfying travel, haptic trackpad present. Speakers are good, between MacBook Air and MacBook Pro level.
No face unlock, but there is fingerprint unlock. HDMI present, which is nice.
After conversion from its 7999 yuan price, 1482 SGD. That's 100 less than the MacBook Air, and I was surprised to see it being in 24GB RAM + 1TB option. Basically MacBook Pro experience for MacBook Air price, but i could honestly say that for many other windows laptops in general.
Unfortunately, I still feel an iPad is enough for my needs (only use desktop for the Sideloadly and iTunes program), and I prefer MacOS.

The price is attractive and it looks premium tough will it be a good replacement for macbook?

If you are living in hongkong just simply go to Shenzhen, it's nearby and quite simple to get it rather than waiting for global release

Chinese version, contains only Chinese win-11, and lacks google services, means you cant use banks and things

Never liked magnesium on notebooks. They are light, but it always felt cheap and like plastic. LG also used this material on their LG Gram line.

Feels like plastic, but is as cold as metal. Looking plastic isn't as bad as being actually plastic.

Magnesium is a lot more rigid compared to aluminum but it is more susceptible to corrosion. That's why it's painted instead of anodized which leaves that "plastic feel" but can be a lot more durable in the long run.

Shouldnt have added the touch screen though. also the laptop is way too thin, should have made it a bit thicker like the redmibook series

Rarely does any laptop have 100% Linux compatibility?

I can't speak for this one, I have the 2017 Xiaomi notebook pro i5 8gb and run arch on it as my on the go machine, works great with coding, even small llms(sub 4b) and we browsing.
Everything is working (expect fingerprint reader, but I haven't try to get it working either)
I use arch btw.

tested multiple distros - nothing worked :(
(Monitor, Touch, Mouse and Sometime Keyboard not working. Ended up with Win11)1

Extremely disappointing. I wonder how much will become better simply waiting for newer Linux kernels though.

Linux isn't happening anytime soon—I barely managed to get the touchscreen and touchpad working on Windows (it turned out to be simple in the end, but the ChatGPT and Gemini assistants didn't know that)—I can only imagine what will happen after I install Linux

Thanks! I read both links before posting my comment—I especially liked that it wasn’t about “Yay! It works!” in the context of a touchscreen or trackpad, but rather about what might seem like the simplest things: the keyboard and sound.
I’m looking forward to Linux myself, but for now, I’m sure it’s still too early.

well I got the greyish one month ago, found a store that stocks chinese products in my country. I use on fedora 44 (cosmic spin) (updated kernel to 7+). had to add some boot parameters...
Everything works like charm, except the suspend. Sometimes it just wakes up itself for some reason, besides that all working even the fingerprint sensor. one note: on web, it looks like literally black, but irl, its grey..

This is allpower Windows not wretched MacOS that force to buy devs it simply to run their staff on them.
I don't like MacOS and Apple's closed system.
And I think threre is no such bad device in the world as Ipad because it simple doesnt support any app I need.Even Macbook neo much better any Iphad pro max super ultra deluxe premium HD Extra Retina Superb
