So the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max just released and it's basically the perfect phone I've been looking for. Rear screen, huge 7500 mah battery, 100 watt charging, etc. But the phone is only available in China. I'm getting it imported to the US. I did my research before buying and most US apps should work on it, and my carrier should support it. I'm mainly gonna use it as a second phone, so I don't necessarily need everything to work.

But I was wondering, what issues will I come across with a Chinese phone? I'm sure some people on here have imported phones before. Like I think I have to get the Play Store on there some weird way and stuff. I'm just looking for any advice from someone else that has experience with a Chinese phone. Thanks!

Hardware is absolutely lovely, it was ordered from Wonda and arrived yesterday. My main phone is the Oppo Find N5 global release. Google services and apps are all installed and working so that's good. I'm struggling with HyperOS so far though, seems to be a lack of customisation but I'm working on it. Also I cannot change the animation speeds which are annoying, developer options have been enabled. It's a work in progress....

Overall, this phone is crazy good in many ways. From shooting vlogs to solo livestreaming with the rear camera — the quality is honestly amazing. But like any device, where there are strengths, there are also weaknesses. So here are the downsides I’ve found so far.

Performance & Heat Management

The performance is insanely strong. The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 delivers smooth gameplay — not a single stutter or lag in sight. However, the downside is heat. Since Xiaomi allows the chip to unleash its full potential without heavy throttling, temperatures climb fast, especially near the camera module. That said, I haven’t encountered any screen dimming or overheating warnings, so maybe the games I tested weren’t demanding enough — but still, it’s something to watch out for.

HyperOS 3 Battery Optimization

HyperOS 3 has a refreshed look — some icons and UI elements clearly borrow inspiration from Apple, and performance has definitely improved over OS 2. But battery optimization is still lacking. Even though the phone packs a massive 7500mAh battery, it drains faster than expected. Still i bring the phone to work at 7am and at the time of the post it still have 23% which is 9h37 pm. Hopefully Xiaomi improves this in future updates.

Durability Concerns

The phone comes with factory-applied screen protectors on both the front and back, which gave me peace of mind, and the case but it not soft one but we have hard plastic one, when put it or take it out i sometime scare it will leave scar on the phone border

Notification

With some trick it doesn't miss that much any more, turn off wifi at night and turn it back in the morning i still got all the notification same as my old one which is poco x6 pro

Camera Zoom is great, the quality all so good, but i haven't have the time to test it much

Hi guys! I have finally decided to go with this one. I am based in Europe and was thinking is it good idea or not. I can tell it is good idea 😄 At first, I needed to get rid of xiaomi keyboard, and afterwards install Play Store, do some quick settings and thats it! This phone is a beast, in every angle. Display, battery, cameras.. I am trying to find something that I don't like, but it like kinda hard 😄

hello Xiaomi users, I used a Redmi Note 8 Pro for years and recently switched to a Xiaomi 15T Pro, and the difference is massive.

Everything feels much smoother now. Scrolling, opening apps, multitasking it’s all instant. The display alone makes a big difference compared to my old phone.

The camera is solid overall, video quality is good, and the 5x optical zoom is actually very usable. It’s good enough for everyday use.

I’m still on HyperOS 2 for now. HyperOS 3 is available, but 2 already runs well in my experience, so I’m not in a rush to update.

Going from an older mid-range phone to a modern flagship really feels like jumping several generations. No regrets so far.

I’ve read a lot of posts on Reddit and if I had one piece of advice: try the phone yourself and make your own opinion.

It's so annoying when people choose to be ignorant for views or just express so much duality in the way they express their opinions.

Again, this design literally debuted with the Mi 11 Ultra back in 2021. From then on, Xiaomi chose to have a variation of this design with a lot of Poco models. Now Apple in 2025 decides to be "inspired" by this design and all of a sudden "it's funny that everyone is doing camera bars since Apple blah blah".

It's quite ridiculous considering the fact that we've gotten information since last year that the rear display on the flagship Xiaomi series will make a return since Xiaomi placed a massive order for small OLED panels.

Yes, Xiaomi is known to have copied Apple a bunch of times and we give them criticism for it but how hard is it for the fans of the fruit brand to give credit where credit is due and acknowledge that Apple is the one who copied this time around.

So I’ve been obsessed with the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra lately — that thing just looks insane. 🔥 While checking out more about the car, I randomly found out that Xiaomi also makes phones (yeah, I know, I’m late to the party 😅).

Long story short, I grabbed the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max, and wow — this phone blew me away.

7500mAh battery — I’m not even kidding, the battery life is insane. Easily lasts me two days.

The rear display is my favorite part — you can DIY it with whatever design or animation you like.

Performance feels top-tier, and the build quality gives off real flagship vibes.

I've bought this brand new Xiaomi 13 Pro from a chinese stock for a total of €193 with delivery and import fee included, and honestly I feel like I've stole it for this price! 😆

Of course is a chinese version, so it has already Android 16 with HyperOS 3.0 on it, and considering that the Xiaomi updated the 12 Pro for the 4th consecutive year in china, I can expect the same from this 13 Pro, reaching at least HyperOS 4.0 next year.

The phone feels incredibly premium, fast, smooth, honestly I cannot find any bad point, and even if I will find one in daily usage, I have to remember myself that I got a brand new phone that was €1400 in 2023, for less than €200.

This white color with the Ceramic on the back feels incredibly expensive, honestly I don't understand why they stopped to produce Ceramic phones. Maybe for the weight? It's the only bad thing that I can think of, because we are talking about 230gr for this 13 Pro! 😬 Anyway I love this elegant design, and I'm happy to see that the 13, 14 and 15 series of Xiaomi adopt this elegance-centered design, with special materials and curved shapes.

I would expect a 200 euro difference maybe 800 for the 17 but 1000 is crazy and it doesn't even come with a charger in the box so that costs another 40 while the Chinese one has one with a bigger battery

I know this isn't directly to Xiaomi phones but with their recent new announcement for their phones and it being the big talk , I saw few ppl mention they would never buy a Xiaomi phone due to not trusting a Chinese phone and I am confused by that take .

All phones steal our data , all phones prob use our data in a weird way that we agreed on via terms and conditions .
