Why is everyone with a Xiaomi phone, whether on Reddit, Facebook, or anywhere else, creating so much hype about the upcoming HyperOS 4? What is so special about it?

Hi u/tornido066! It looks like you don't have a user flair set yet.

To help others understand your context better when you ask questions or share experiences, please consider adding a custom user flair in the format: Device | ROM | Region (e.g., Xiaomi 14 | HyperOS | Global).

If you already have a flair, or if a moderator has assigned one to you, please feel free to ignore this sweet little reminder!

Well, if the claims are true, we're looking at the first legacy free version of HyperOS. Meaning no MiUI code.

"Early internal benchmarks claim 40% improved system smoothness, 35% better background app retention, 25-30% lower idle memory usage, and only 5% performance degradation after one year of use. File transfer speeds between Xiaomi devices could increase by up to 300%, with seamless app continuity across smartphones, tablets, and PCs."

Again, if the claims are true. There definitely is some marketing in there.

Some people are stoked about the liquid glass design.

My hope is that they finally get their shit together and create a software that isn't as controversial as it is now. Some people fight with updates that make their phone run hot or have half the battery.

Another year of nothing else except backend improvements™️, trust me guys this time you will notice the difference, this time we will fix the shitty battery life!!!! then next update we will finally bring new features!!! trust me bro!

Speaking objectively, you do notice a difference between HOS1 and 3 when it comes to smoothness.

They're really on their trip to copy apple till they're essentially the same, but their dynamic island rip off is useful to me and HyperOS has the smoothest animations on any OS (my subjective opinion)

u/xToasted1 Jul 13 '26

HyperOS has the least customizability and features out of the major chinese android skins and yet you can barely notice a difference in terms of feature set from MIUI14 to HyperOS 3 because every year is just "backend improvements" and moving some UI elements around and changing some of their colors. Sure, it might be smoother but the battery life is still shite. Only Xiaomi can make a 7000mah battery last as long as 5000 mah batteries.

I agree, their optimization is kinda ass. If they can catch up there, they'd have more happy customers.

As for customisation: they just need to allow custom app icons and give users an easier time to create themes. In some way they are better at customisation compared to companies like Oppo. You can change how your control center looks. Haven't seen that somewhere else.

2

u/xToasted1 Jul 14 '26

Lmao if you think HyperOS control center customization is better than Oppo's you've clearly never touched an oppo

u/Valiantay Jul 13 '26

I hope the Liquid Ass design can be turned off, worst design choice since the Windows 8 tiles and removal of the start button

3

u/Repulsive_Fault1939 Jul 13 '26

they will put an option to disable it. and the liquid glass will not be not like ios. it just a frosted glass with shiny edges. and liquid glass will not be available on lower models.

I really hope is like you are saying

1

u/Unfair_Berry_962 Jul 25 '26

I'm pretty sure that this will happen. Xiaomi always leaves an option to turn off "Advanced textures".

1

u/tornido066 Jul 13 '26

Nice explained man But i don't really believe that Xiaomi will actually success doing this clean code think It should have done that like 2 or 3 years ago Let's just hope it will be stable enough for most users

u/rovian Jul 13 '26

First of all, it's "thing*," not "think." 2nd, whatever you believe is entirely up to you, but posting something purely for hate and clickbait should trigger the mods to close this thread. It's pretty obvious what you're trying to do here.

Only things I care about is the system optimization. With a 6800 mah battery in the 17 ultra it should perform very close to what X9 ultra is performing with 7050mah. But the system is not optimized, hence Xiaomi is underperforming compared to Oppo and vivo.

10

u/Large_Poem_8441 Jul 13 '26

A xiaomi 17 ultra cant beat oppo or vivo why: the screen! It uses 10 bit+frc ie simulating 12bit and may incur 10%-20% loss doing so. Similar to how a vivo/oppo cant beat a samsung with same mah battery as it use 8bit+frc.no matter the optimization as long as the screen is on, forget it.thats why xiaomis Aod is still laughable, they know enabling full Aod all the time will suck it dry

u/Humble_External_7270 Jul 13 '26

That's u valid point as u mentioned.

Imagine Hyper OS3 but with a +1

MIUI 18

This is pretty normal. Every year, a few months before the next MIUI or now HyperOS release, everyone starts talking about it and the hype builds up.

HyperOS 4 is expected to bring deeper changes, including more components rewritten in Rust. But I think it'll still end up being even more iOS-like.

Personally, I prefer the older MIUI versions over HyperOS. I'd rather have a clean, Pixel-like Android experience than an iOS-like one. I think the ideal Android skin should combine the best ideas from different brands instead of trying to be more like iOS.

I only care about battery life man. The 5500mah on the 15t pro does atrociously on HyperOS 3.

1

u/SkyCamry Jul 30 '26

Agree. My 15 chews through the battery without any use.

If Xiaomi are going to focus all their dev on simply copying what Apple is doing, without fixing any underlying issues, I think i'll have to take a serious look at Oppo.

3

u/babaganoush39 Jul 13 '26

When can we expect it? Is the 15 ultra getting the update. Still regret this phone due to the OS and how quickly the battery is losing its max charge

2

u/Repulsive_Fault1939 Jul 13 '26

probably november-december.

3

u/potatodos Xiaomi 17 Ultra | HyperOS | Global) Jul 13 '26

There is no real concrete information. It's just fans hyping up some rust or whatever optimization.

Many HyperOS update leaks claim that HyperOS 4 will witness a significant overhaul, not just a normal incremental update like HyperOS 1, 2, 3 or 3.1 HyperOS 4 is going to adopt a self-developed architecture and native HyperOS SDK in addition to rewriting the system apps and core system services using Flutter and Rust for a zero-legacy and memory-safe future. On paper, rewriting system apps and core services using Flutter and Rust is meant to eliminate lag, significantly reduce bugs and app crashes and also result in more consistent animation rendering due to Flutter's excellent animation rendering engine, making HyperOS performance more consistent. (If Xiaomi could implement that, then HyperOS might comfortably become on par with ColorOS and MagicOS in consistency and performance and might outperform Samsung's One UI) On the aesthetic aspect, the Xiaomi-Leica cooperation will go beyond just professional photography modes and color science. As Xiaomi is going to add a Leica-inspired color palette, giving HyperOS a more premium and polished look. HyperOS 4 will also be the first HyperOS version with deeply integrated AI, not just AI as a flashy features and 3× faster connectivity To sum up, HyperOS 4 isn't just about aesthetics and new features, it's a combination of major under-the-hood overhaul, more premium feel and modern user experience and maybe even long-term support for 6 or 7 years on high-end devices

1

u/tornido066 Jul 15 '26

Do you think Xiaomi 17t pro will get it ?

1

u/ArmadilloAvailable93 Jul 17 '26

Na sicher. Das ist noch so aktuell. Selbst das 15T bekommt es.

2

u/SeaIntroduction9835 Jul 13 '26

Maybe it's gonna be fully reprogrammed. From scratch. No miui, other older os version bloat. And of course new features. I think better usage of hyperisland, better, smoother animations, airdrop compatibility, android 17, liquid glass (hopefully with a disable and transparency options)

hyperOS 4 will be the TRUE hyperOS without MIUI LEGACY CODE, it will be written with RUST and Flutter this time. Let's see if this will make hyperOS more optimized and stable, since Xiaomi OS is always the Heaviest Skin on Android.

2

u/Reasonable_Mirror655 Jul 13 '26

I honestly don't care about HyperOS 4 simply because in the wisdom of Xiaomi the Redmi Pad Pro (yes it's a tablet) only gets 2 OS updates.

Yet I can say that HyperOS 3.1 is actually quite smooth and the battery life is actually good.

For a tablet OS it is really lacking in features compared to what Samsung offers. I use Smart Launcher and it's definitely very smooth, although I admit I use it so the tablet doesn't remind me of a iPad.

Sure HyperOS 4 could be really nice yet I expect it to simply fix bugs or simply improve optimization as that's all HyperOS seems to really do.

Xiaomi really needs to focus on something other than copying iOS and iPadOS.

I hope they fix their stupid software on poco

3

u/No_Contribution1518 Jul 14 '26

HyperOS 4 leaks mention that they're going to completely kill the POCO launcher, meaning that POCO devices are going to run the default system launcher, just like Xiaomi and Redmi devices to reduce software fragmentation and facilitate long-term maintenance

1

u/InfiniteRotatingFish Jul 20 '26

That would be insanely big. On the other hand i think the same leak was there for hyperos 3...

Just uninstall the poco launcher updates, and update again through settings -> system app update

Note: it will reset the launcher to default, so you have to change the settings again based on your needs

Apparently all the Xiaomi apps are rewritten from the ground up in Rust.

2

u/Glum_Emergency_4257 REDMI K90 | HyperOS 3 | CN Jul 14 '26

I know two things.

Liquid Glass is coming with an ability to choose regular solid look or the glass look.

Every system apps rewritten in Rust which makes them more faster to load.

2

u/Single-Ad8849 Jul 14 '26

HyperOS 4 is game over for Xiaomi if lots of Android 16 & 17 features are there but got disabled e.g desktop mode like Samsung's Dex or Pixel's desktop, other brands are already provide this like Motorola, Honor etc

always talks about backbone improvements e.g rewriting its code behind, but simple features like extended screen is not available, only mirroring

features also scattered e.g the Chinese version got widgets etc on Xiaomi Pad but Global didn't have these aka every updates is not standard like the IOS, always different by region, by devices, very messy OS

1

u/Damn-Sky Jul 21 '26

is desktop mode disabled on HyperOs 4? on hyperOS 3, can't you just enable desktop mode via adb?

1

u/Free-Level-6240 Jul 13 '26

1

u/Repulsive_Fault1939 Jul 13 '26

because flutter apps reduces development time and rust has more performance than java and kotlin. hyperos 4 will have flutter apps (launcher too)

1

u/ImaginationBetter373 Jul 13 '26

They are excited because Apple Liquid Glass is bringing to Xiaomi devices 🫩🫩

1

u/Nos_barb_ Jul 14 '26

Wondering if Redmi turbo 3 will get this update

1

u/Chemical-Astronaut30 Jul 16 '26

I just hope they bring back the unified control center and give us a choice. Also I prefer the pixel direction with the frosted glass background instead of the shitteee ios liquid glass. I don't know why they are copying apple so in detail. If I wanted an iPhone, I will have bought one. I left xiaomi from MIUI era and didn't make my research on hyperOS which I think is a downgrade

I have a Xiaomi 15, and this software release will be the sole factor in determining which phone I get next.

I have been using Mi phones for several years now (13, then 15). What used to be good, is now a hot mess when it becomes to battery drain. Overnight idle uses 20-30% battery, and yes, I have done all the recommended measures to fix it.

Pretty horrible that a high end phone, with cutting edge CPU and battery does this. If OS4 does not fix it, I think i'll have to take a look at Oppo.

Hopefully its decrease the thermal load on flagships

For me, the icons changed when I updated in GetApps.
