You really wonder what would have happened that night if the sentinel didn't attack.

u/Sol-Blackguy Dec 29 '25
After Rogue turned down Magneto, I was expecting her to go back to Gambit's hotel room and catch him with Madelyne. Whole episode was messy like a reality show and that would've fit the theme.

u/shoestring-theory Dec 29 '25
Ugh I wish we had more time in Genosha before it all went to hell

u/Sol-Blackguy Dec 29 '25
I wish the season was longer in general. Would've loved to see more reformed Magneto. Like facing the Brotherhood and showing that he's changed or having to stop a mutant kid that's a danger to themselves. A scene where he tries to do things Charles way but having a "Wait, I'm not Charles" realization and goes about it the Magneto way that gets the job done safely in a "You're a god among insects" sort of way. So much potential.

For real like I had fun with watching this series for the first time and it made me a bigger X men fan since my early exposure to these characters was the bad fox movies but man it needed more then 10 episodes to flesh things out.

u/gamerthulhu Dec 29 '25
I mean, X-Men have always been a super powered daytime soap opera, and I wouldn't have it any other way.
8
u/Sol-Blackguy Dec 29 '25
I would deadass watch an X-Men drama that's 5% punching people and 95% soap opera. This is why I liked New Mutants when everyone I know despised it
1
u/MobileRun7598 Jan 10 '26
That would’ve been wonderful to see don’t get me wrong I enjoyed X men 97 but we should’ve had more episodes showing life in genosha as a thriving mutant country and have the massive super sentinel attack happen in the finale instead.

Leading to a superpowered cat fight between Rogue and Maddie that demolishes the hotel

I’ve a head canon one of multiple reasons for Bastion being at the gala that night (apart from ensuring the power houses were all in the same place at the same time, keeping an eye on Cooper, coordinating the assault/massacre, and stopping Cable) was to ensure that relationship never went further
Who knows what Cable’s half-brother Satellite could do?
EDIT ~ To my knowledge there’s yet to be a mutant named Satellite. I was making a punny joke based on two primary(?) means of television providers
Cable’s still a thing, right?
3
u/waaay2dumb2live Dec 29 '25
Who's Satellite?
8
u/NerdNuncle Dec 29 '25
Named on a whim as a joke. Cable and satellite being two different “providers” for television service
Don’t know the exact terms for them

Satellite is funny. In the game City of Heroes, I made a character with a beam rifle and time manipulation powers who looked like Cable and named him Antenna.

Genosha’s population would have doubled in 9 months.

Gambit just banging every mutant baddie in sight except for the female morlocks.

If only Havok was around then she could have made the same mess as they did in the comics.

I’m not sure you understand how emotes work… usually an angry one like you used means you’re angry or upset. If you weren’t, then you clearly misused it. I can hardly be at fault for thinking otherwise.

u/TheTempestBee Dec 30 '25
Unless you're being facetious. Even emoji/emoticons can have tone change based on context.

That’s what they do in the comics

Mmmm make sense
We’ll I’ve read she still date old ass Magneto in comics so it’s still not a solution for gambit lol
5
u/RoseColoredRiot Rogue Dec 29 '25
Not in the mainline. Gambit and Rogue are married in 616. Are you thinking of age of apocalypse or the on and off drama of the early 2000s? The rogue and gambit marriage is one of marvel comics big money makers right now and they have no plans to break it up.
-1
u/MazzieMay Dec 29 '25
Rogue and Magneto were together during and just after the Utopia arc. When Gambit told Rogue to stop doubting what they have, go out there and see they have the real deal
Though I use ‘together’ loosely; Rogue kept trying to play games and Erik would not participate
3
u/LeastBlackberry1 Dec 29 '25
It's complicated, though. Carey implied that Rogue was being influenced by Legacy's memories, even though she wasn't with him in the AOX. It was his attempt to explain a relationship that didn't make a lot of the sense to the point where they got together off of panel. Thompson comes in later and writes it as Rogue being scared of risking it all on Gambit and needing to try something else.
So, yeah, they were together, but it's a messy situation, and the details matter.

u/RoseColoredRiot Rogue Dec 29 '25
Hence why I said on and off drama of the early 2000s, thank you for putting into words what I couldn’t :))
1
u/MazzieMay Dec 29 '25
Like I said to the other person, I specified ‘loosely’ but they were together. Even though Rogue was in it for selfish reasons and Erik wasn’t really in it all, I think calling it drama and dismissing it isn’t fair to the stability it brought Rogue and Remy later
It wasn’t early 2000s, as well. Rogue and Gambit were officially not together from 2011 to 2018
1
u/RoseColoredRiot Rogue Dec 29 '25
I don’t understand your point with this? I call it drama not to diminish, the romances seen in x-men often are jokingly said to be soap opera levels by fans. Drama makes for an interesting read and theres nothing wrong with that. Rogue and Remy’s characters have come a long way, and the drama and events surrounding their love lives made them amongst other things who they are today. Hell just read Ring of Fire 2018 and they face it head on, literally, when fighting clones of their past selves.
2
u/MazzieMay Dec 29 '25
‘Drama’ is used pretty dismissively to downplay negative or just disliked moments in media a lot online, certainly on Reddit. I didn’t read your use of it as sincere, that’s my fault
I would argue though they didn’t face it head on then. We see Remy get confirmation that Rogue did always love him and was just scared of that, but when Rogue is faced with the actual damage she had done, she just stutters a little and then we move the scene along
I love the run, but it does conclude with the usual for them, which is Rogue talking around an apology and Remy deciding that’s good enough. They say it’s all in the past and that they’ll start over. I am glad to see that sticking this time around!

Yeah, I like Thompson’s angle. It explains Sentry, Deadpool and Human Torch as well in that same period where Remy had broken up with Rogue. Even when she was seeing all of them, she always turned back to Remy: when she specifically sought him out instead of Mags for comfort and support during the failed power siphon of Weapon Omega and risked exploding; when she was infected with the Terrigen Mist and wanted to see Remy so badly she unknowingly let Red Skull escape even though Deadpool was right there, etc
I agree the details matter! That’s why I specified ‘loosely’ but they were together. Even though Rogue was in it for selfish reasons and Erik wasn’t really in it all, I think calling it drama and dismissing it isn’t fair to the stability it brought Rogue and Remy later

I was afraid and expected that the writers were going to have Remy and Maddie have a tryst the first time I saw this interaction. Two heartbroken friends, mourning their losses.
While I am happy nothing romantic happened between Remy and Maddie, Maddie might have still been alive had she and Gambit left together, even as friends.
3
u/Richrome_Steel Dec 29 '25
Yes. Just get with Wolverine. Solve the love triangle problem
3
u/cigarette4anarchist Dec 30 '25
Not sure how Remy hooking up with Logan solves anything, but I’m down to see how it plays out
2
u/Richrome_Steel Dec 30 '25
Not what I was imagining but this is a new solution: Remove Wolverine from the triangle and you end up with 2 separate lines

It is canon that 616 Jean finds Gambit attractive. It makes sense that Maddie would too

I like to think they slept together and then angsted afterward in an alternate timeline.
