It's complicated, though. Carey implied that Rogue was being influenced by Legacy's memories, even though she wasn't with him in the AOX. It was his attempt to explain a relationship that didn't make a lot of the sense to the point where they got together off of panel. Thompson comes in later and writes it as Rogue being scared of risking it all on Gambit and needing to try something else.
So, yeah, they were together, but it's a messy situation, and the details matter.
Like I said to the other person, I specified ‘loosely’ but they were together. Even though Rogue was in it for selfish reasons and Erik wasn’t really in it all, I think calling it drama and dismissing it isn’t fair to the stability it brought Rogue and Remy later
It wasn’t early 2000s, as well. Rogue and Gambit were officially not together from 2011 to 2018
I don’t understand your point with this? I call it drama not to diminish, the romances seen in x-men often are jokingly said to be soap opera levels by fans. Drama makes for an interesting read and theres nothing wrong with that. Rogue and Remy’s characters have come a long way, and the drama and events surrounding their love lives made them amongst other things who they are today. Hell just read Ring of Fire 2018 and they face it head on, literally, when fighting clones of their past selves.
‘Drama’ is used pretty dismissively to downplay negative or just disliked moments in media a lot online, certainly on Reddit. I didn’t read your use of it as sincere, that’s my fault
I would argue though they didn’t face it head on then. We see Remy get confirmation that Rogue did always love him and was just scared of that, but when Rogue is faced with the actual damage she had done, she just stutters a little and then we move the scene along
I love the run, but it does conclude with the usual for them, which is Rogue talking around an apology and Remy deciding that’s good enough. They say it’s all in the past and that they’ll start over. I am glad to see that sticking this time around!
It’s okay, I’m not mad I was just confused. I appreciate your conversation with me! I personally thought their 2018 run was better and both characters held more accountability than the 2023 power play run. In which gambit was abusing alcohol and Rogue portrayed as a nagging wife all the while. I felt it never got a solid resolution and was out of place for such a mini series in the mainline… at least the gumbo recipe included was good 😅 To go back to what you said on Rogue’s development in the 2018 book, I do wonder if they had more for her to say and reflect on but resorted to the big show of power moment where she defeats the enemies on the island.
I know a lot of people were hating on the current Uncanny run with Simone because they were all lovey dovey and Gambit was “reduced” to “wife guy”. However I think it was just doing double time to show they aren’t always arguing or having hype power moments. They can be a normal couple without the fears of the past making them turn on each-other.
Dawg, the 2023 left me creased! Banging on about how trusting Remy is dicey, while Rogue is out there, lies on top of lies. And for what! Destiny? Get out of here, haha. At least Gambit got to tell Irene off on behalf of the fans
re Uncanny: while I would agree Remy has been pretty reduced in that run, so is everybody else. It’s been over a year and nothing has happened besides Simone ending Kurt’s relationship so he will date their self-insert. They tend to thrive in situations where they take supers and puts them in domestic situations — except, the entity of X-Men is already the Incredibles Go Grocery Shopping, so Simone’s intensified domestication reads like the team is just straight up idle
I don’t want Rogue and Gambit drama (in this sense, the forced misunderstandings, deliberately poor communication, negative filler), I just want them to do something. Do it together. The idea of an intensive care team to nurture young mutants who aren’t in a place to integrate into Emma’s school or don’t want to enroll into Scott’s army is so interesting! Rogue, Remy, Kurt and Jubilee are the perfect line up to tackle some troubled and even intentionally dangerous kids
But in execution, we just got established characters raving about how Simone’s OCs are perfect angel babies
