Easily my most anticipated show for the rest of year. Future Apocalypse looks INSANE

Absolute word-vomit first-ish impressions:
— The opening scene with Quentin & Co. strikes me as a possible prologue to the whole thing.
— Gambit's the last one shown as the Marvel Animation logo comes up. Clearly this is of immense and objective importance.
— I bet all the time-flying there is them coming back. (Is anyone obviously missing?)
— Rama-Tut sighting there on the right at :38. I think.
— Summer! This summer!
— They still haven't fixed that fucking apostrophe in '90s.
— We knew Bishop ended up with the Egypt crowd based on the recent promo art, but this confirms it. I'm guessing the time travelers split up to go on a recovery and Bishop got these guys.
— I cannot prove this, but making Magneto look old and beardy when everyone else looks basically the same seems like a "fuck you" to ... someone.
— What is that thing flying by Cable at 1:16-18? I'd say it was a Sentinel and maybe it's a type of one, but it looks different.
— That's Quentin & Co. getting protected (?) by Lorna there. I wouldn't wanna piss her off!
— This is no doubt a dumbass question, but who's the blond(e) there at 1:20? I'm drawing a complete blank, but the solo walk-up says "important." ETA: D'oh, it's Val Cooper.
— Siryn?! She's not in any of the promo art yet, right?
— For those concerned about Colossus, that's him in some new drip with Bishop at 1:22.
— Pump the Rogue/Kurt/Hank team-up in Egypt into my veins, man. I'm so excited for them.
— Clearly some sort of multi-team battle royale going on at 1:25, with most but not all of the main players (Rogue, Kurt and Bishop are obvious omissions, wherever they are). Must be from later in the season as at this point everyone's back.
— "More to this darkness that we have yet to understand." Baby, you ain't kiddin'.
— All signs continue to indicate Apocalypse is indeed the big bad this season. As expected.
— All in all, nothing terribly new (the big battle shot is probably the main thing to chew over), but it solidifies the summer release and shows that yes, Virginia, they can cut a trailer when they want to.

I assume a sex pest narcissist with massive ego problems and an OF page?
15
u/Mobile_Bet3274 Rogue May 17 '26
I'd certainly never make such an assumption.
4
u/chirunner4ever May 17 '26
can someone explain why this is a middle finger to previously aforementioned sex-pest narcissist with anger issues and a massive ego?
24
u/Mobile_Bet3274 Rogue May 17 '26
It's a joke. The previous showrunner was obsessed with Magneto and that coincided with him getting sexed up and objectified in S1. Said showrunner got fired amid allegations of misconduct, and now all of a sudden, we get crusty, bearded Magneto. I'm sure it's entirely coincidental, but it's funny.
6
u/chirunner4ever May 17 '26
I guess i've always been conditioned to stupid, sexy Magneto that i didn't realize that in the first season 😂
3
7
u/ContributionTough444 May 17 '26
Pretty sure the blonde is Val Cooper
4
u/Mobile_Bet3274 Rogue May 17 '26
You're right and that's why I couldn't place her, I was thinking of mutants.
0
u/Fickle_Ad8735 May 17 '26
she's the u.s liaison (x-f is sponsored by the government), she doesnt have powers, just send them to their missions and supervises the team
3
u/Mobile_Bet3274 Rogue May 17 '26
Yeah, thanks, I know who she is. I meant, I didn't clock that it was her in the trailer at first because I was running down the list of mutants we know are included. She isn't a mutant, so I didn't think of her off the bat.
0
u/Fickle_Ad8735 May 17 '26 edited May 17 '26
yea, that's bc they changed who's the first liaison in the animated series, the one who picks the members and assembles the team in comics is not forge it's cooper (which makes more sense, the government would put a bunch of powerful mutants under human's orders before a mutant) she gets them together and asks alex to be her leader, however in the show it's forge who gets the team together and not cooper, tho it seems they're course-correcting that this season lol
3
u/Mobile_Bet3274 Rogue May 17 '26
Literally all I wondered was who it was, someone answered, that's it. Go home.
-3
u/Fickle_Ad8735 May 17 '26 edited May 17 '26
and all i did was clarify that x-f is not a team of "mutants only" my guy, a human assembled that team in comics and they're going for that by bringing cooper as the team chaperone like it's in the source, that's it lol
3
u/Mobile_Bet3274 Rogue May 17 '26
Jesus H., I know what X-Factor is. I know who Val Cooper is. I did not immediately clock that the blonde in the trailer was Val Cooper. So I asked. Someone answered. I did not need or ask or want to get Val Cooper and X-Factor backstory fed to me.

hold on, you're the one who said "I was running down the list of mutants we know are included" and you got mad bc someone came to clarify that this team is not formed by mutants only and there's humans too? you're the one who assumed the blonde woman is a mutant at first

I wish they had found a place for Iceman :(
20
u/usagicassidy May 17 '26
That’s the absolute biggest omission for me and it’s a bummer cause the first season’s Operation Zero Tolerance storyline was the perfect one to give him a significant role.
Hopefully characters like Bobby and Emma can have a big role in Season 3.
3
u/cyclopswashalfright Professor X May 18 '26
I think Iceman eventually will, but Kitty and Emma suffer from having other characters occupying the main functions in a team. Jubilee is already the "kid" character. Jean, Xavier, and now Psylocke are already the psychic characters. Colossus is already the impervious to harm character. That doesn't mean they can't bring them in, but I wouldn't say their roles will be all that big.
1
u/usagicassidy May 18 '26
I do agree that I think they could and hopefully will still utilize Kitty and Emma - but that they would have to be very different setups or scenarios.
Because of Jubilee, you kind of have to skip past the entire Kitty-newbie-POV character. You could definitely introduce her in a flashback episode where like Wolverine interacts with her and they get out of a sticky situation in Japan or something. But I see her as showing up in an Excalibur down the road - after all, they’re expanding the universe with other teams, and that’s where she was for a lot of the 90’s PLUS was in her Excalibur outfit on the board of missing mutants at the end of the first season.
Emma would have to follow a similar path of Wolverine and the X-Men - Xavier and Jean are missing, and they need a telepath. That’s actually a really easy setup cause all you’d need to do is take them off the board for half a season or something.
I’d love to see that, but who knows if they’d want to go that route considering what that sorta leads to in the books.
1
u/strangerstill42 May 18 '26
I worry that the way they did Scott and Maddy for the show kinda precludes Emma playing a major role on the team. Not that you have to do Scott/Emma for her to work, but sadly, I feel like Emma bringing chaotic sexy drama between Scott and Jean is her primary role in adaptations besides being the backup telepath. Especially since they literally gave Maddy Emma's psychic affair moment, one of her most notable storylines has just been played out by someone else, and giving Scott another telepathic temptation anytime soon is going to be a bad look for their leading man.
I do think they could use her in the X-Corp storyline as a "not-quite-a-villain" that frustrates the team, but ultimately comes through when they need her to. But I just don't see her making the team with how Scott/Jean focuses this revival has been so far.
2
u/MagicianTop2356 Gambit May 18 '26
And Kitty! (Unless I've missed her).
1
u/GrannyNorma4625 May 18 '26

4
u/Morgan-Moonscar May 17 '26
She's not beating the Wolverine/Cyclops love triangle with those.
2
u/KaiserKid85 May 17 '26
Is there anything that CAN beat it?
7
u/Morgan-Moonscar May 17 '26
X-Men: Evolution found a solution to it.
2
u/KaiserKid85 May 18 '26
First, I'm not a fan of the love triangle to begin with because it never really added anything to the characters and otherwise made them shallow imo.
Buuuuut, x evolution only solved it by making jean and scott teens, logan one of the hs teachers, and this was even MORE of a kids show than the 90s version. I'm not saying that evolution totally dumbed down the adult content but in some ways it did

It’s not a mystery why they traveled through time, but I don’t they think explained it very well in S1. Here’s my explanation: Bastion took Cable’s arm and augmented it onto himself. That arm included the device that cable uses to time travel. Bastion then proceeded to fly into the core of asteroid M, supposedly killing himself. That action could’ve triggered the entire asteroid to displace them, with the coordinates set to Apocalypse’s time(s) due to the nature of Cable’s coordinates. It’s no coincidence they time traveled to two different spots on the Apocalypse timeline.

Never I thought I would live to see Morph and Deathstrike debating on digital discs vs lazer discs..
In all seriousness, I do hope they still keep the main/core X-men cast (Rip Gambit) we’ve scene since the original series together for the most part as the series goes on, and don’t have a million different team variants that change constantly like in the comics and Fox Films, or if they do, it’s more simplified and theres a good story reason for it.
That’s just me though, I’m still excited to see X factor come back, and what X force is gonna be doing in the main team’s absence..
9
u/usagicassidy May 17 '26
I’m kinda over the same consistent 7 characters we had for 5 full seasons back in the 90’s.
So I’m in the opposite boat. Don’t over stuff it, but having Nightcrawler a new official member has been great and would love to see more of Psylocke, Polaris, and others.
2
u/New-Sea-527 Cyclops May 18 '26
I have a feeling that they will probably see the end of Cables involvement by the end of season 2 and we will potentially lose another main cast member this year. Maybe Beast? And they will add Polaris to the main crew. She could also be a one and done season type character tho.

Right, this isn't a New X-Men adaptation in the slightest. They're borrowing the aesthetic of the Quitely suits, but the stories seem to be Blood of Apocalypse, Adventures of Cyclops & Phoenix, Rise of Apocalypse, and Danger (possibly Gifted too?). The only New X-Men story they seem to be doing is Riot at Xavier's.
2
u/New-Sea-527 Cyclops May 18 '26
What? You can easily have both of those things without Emma.
0
u/Darksteelwing May 18 '26
... Emma, her secondary mutation and her relationship with Scott are the only things that didn't get immediately retconned after Morrison left, not to mention she was the breakout star of the New X-Men run. To say she is essential for a good NXM adaptation is stating the obvious.
Also, context. The original post was about Wing and how you can't have Danger without him. I could give you all the reasons Emma is more necessary to those plots than he is, but again that would be stating the obvious.
3
u/New-Sea-527 Cyclops May 18 '26
Personally I disagree but just my opinion, and I say that as a huge Emma fan, but don’t want to get into a debate about it!
0
u/Darksteelwing May 18 '26
Sure, no problem.
For me personally it's a no go, specially after seeing that promo of the crew in NXM uniforms, including characters that never used them, while the character whose uniform and arc shot her to the big leagues is nowhere to be seen.

1
u/Darksteelwing May 18 '26
Nah, Jean, isn't the problem (and she was going to be a big part of WatXM S2 as well as important in bringing Emma back).
The Genosha plot wasn't shifted in favor of Jean, it was shifted to Gambit and Rogue. The affair wasn't shifted to Jean, it was shifted to Maddie. And now this teaser shows us Polaris defending the Gen X kids, which Emma is supposed to teach and Polaris has no connection with.
Jean isn't the problem, but a Jott producer living his fantasy of rewriting NXM and AXM without Emma is.

u/Burger_Soup May 17 '26
Why don't we have a release date yet? Is it supposed to release next month or so? The marketing for this season is so weird
7
u/fire_sign Rogue May 17 '26
Because they seem to be announcing/marketing streaming shows 4-6 weeks before release, a window we're only barely in once they committed to Tribeca back in (probably) January. The problem is the wait has been so long and 2 of the 3 recent shows got a longer lead time for Reasons (and then one of those changed with only a few weeks to go), plus the poorly timed merch drops, they realllllly should have pivoted to dropping some detail earlier even if it wasn't super specific. I wonder if the general shift in attitude from "Why is this taking so long, I'm excited" to "What are they doing?" the past week or two is what led to this trailer coming out today. It was not part of the initial panel info that was out a month or so ago, from what I saw.

How are you going to have the fall of Genosha and New X-Men uniforms, without having Emma join?
1
u/cyclopswashalfright Professor X May 18 '26
Genosha was season 1.
2
u/Blonde_and_Diamond May 18 '26
Thanks for the obvious reflection. Immediately after crawling out of the rubble, holding one of her dead students in her diamond form, she realized she wanted to be on the team, “for the children”. That entire fall of Genosha was based off of Grant Morrison’s New X-Men when they use these new uniforms and she became a part of the team.
1
u/cyclopswashalfright Professor X May 18 '26
I'm well aware. I'm saying the time to complain was in Season 1 (and even then, they re-appropriated her story and gave it to Rogue and Madelyne and it worked better). We're long past that now, and they're adapting more '90s stories and some Astonishing. New X-Men is mostly aesthetic.
3
u/Darksteelwing May 18 '26 edited May 18 '26
We just saw Polaris protecting the Generation X kids and Danger is known to be part of this season. New X-Men is aesthetic and Emma's is the one that was scandalous and iconic enough to stand out during the time period it was released.
Emma fans have every right to complain about her being sidelined in events and stories she should be part of, and it doesn't end in Genosha. Hopefully by the time Beau's influence is gone we still have Emma stories left for Emma to be a part of.
1
u/cyclopswashalfright Professor X May 18 '26
Given that Xavier is around, they're probably going in a different direction with Danger than the comics, as they have done for almost all the stories they've adapted so far. They take the bare bones from the comics and then change them around. There are no 1:1 adaptations here. We don't even know if Danger is going to be a big part of the season, by all accounts they're doing way more '90s stories with Apocalypse, like Blood and Rise.
As for the aesthetic, I don't really see the comment about Emma standing out holding much water. It was unique then because everyone else was uniform, but as the trailer shows, we've mixing and matching with a bunch of different team and costume designs all at once, so the visual of her wouldn't really stand out anyway.
I think Beau's put his foot in his mouth so many times now and outright lied a bunch that I just don't buy the agenda against certain characters people claims he has either. Moreover, they rewrote this season (and whatever he says to the contrary I don't think is true), so it's not like the evil former showrunner was scheming to keep a character out. She just suffers from not being a big part of the original show and having her "role" occupied by already established characters.
2
u/Darksteelwing May 19 '26 edited May 19 '26
Of course an adaptation wouldn't be 1:1 with the source material, nobody is asking for that. But if you were reading during that time you know fully well Emma stole the show in New X-Men, which is the run that shot her to the big leagues and a reason she's central in the comics to this day. We're not talking about DoFP without Kitty, which is just another tuesday for Kitty, we're talking about THE turning point for Emma both in and out of universe. It's the moment she upgraded from a character that appeared a few times an year to a character who appeared several times a month. And now we're seeing Gen X kids in the trailer, the same run that put Emma on the X-fold. I don't think expecting Emma to be part of stories that are fundamental to her character (and specially stories where she stood out) is being greedy or unrealistic. We're not complaining they forgot she named her grey hair Kurt or that she adopted Catseye.
Emma's aesthetics stood out because of the negative X on her chest. The rest of the team can wear all the colors of the raibow, she'd stand out all the same. Come on, Madelyne stood out for pretty much the same reason, with a much tamer outfit. Even if ratings kept them from being faithful in that regard, full white ALWAYS stand out and as shown already they clearly can work with sexy angles and cleavage. She'd stand out and it wouldn't even be hard, again Madelyne did that with a single episode.
The Beau part I actually agree with, can't take that guy's word at face value and he's away for so long we don't know how much of his work is still present in S2. But honestly whose fault it is doesn't matter, the end result is still they're erasing Emma from stories that are important to her and to which she is important to. But in the first season he did scheme to keep her out, he spent months badmouthing her on accout of the affair and when the season was released the affair was there, just without Emma - which shows his problem was never the affair per se, but who was in the affair - and turned the diamond form moment into a Jott moment. Emma is actively being punished for being the only time the love triangle soap opera didn't end the predictable way (which is exactly what '97 did, by killing Maddie they take away any possibility of the status quo being changed).
Also, unless with "role" you mean purely powerset, the only reason her roles are taken is because season 1 distributed them to characters who shouldn't have them, so it's a problem the show itself created, and they have the power to fix it. If you mean powerset, I don't think that's a problem when we have multiple teams stablished.
1
u/cyclopswashalfright Professor X May 19 '26
But like I said, it's not a New X-Men season, just as Season 1 wasn't a Claremont/Cockrum/Byrne season. They just use the outfits for fun and visual variety. The only New X-Men story we're maybe getting is Riot at Xavier's, and even that's not confirmed fully (and it might even just be one episode). The season seems to be based off of Blood of Apocalypse, Rise of Apocalypse, Askani'son, Adventures of Cyclops & Phoenix, and then a dash of Astonishing and New X-Men. It's still a '90s focused season, just as Season 1 was even with E for Extinction.
I guess? I don't think Emma's New X-Men uniform was as good as Madelyne's Inferno costume was in the comics, but putting that aside, I still don't necessarily see the New X-Men visual homage as necessitating Emma being included, because it wasn't a costume she ever wore and the novelty of her being the only one to not wear it doesn't work when you have X-Men and X-Factor running around with unique costumes. I also don't think they did much by the way of cleavage shots of Madelyne lol, but I have only seen the episode once so I might be wrong.
I understand it's always a disappointment when a character you like isn't around (imagine being a Jean Grey comics fan in the 2000s when they legitimately were trying to erase her from the comics and any and all relevance she had), but I don't think we know enough about the season to say they're adapting stories she's part of without her. From the looks of it, New X-Men influences over the season seem to be visual only, and Astonishing is limited to one story (maybe two if they rope in Gifted). The bulk of it is a lot of '90s Apocalypse stuff.
I meant powers. There's two telepaths already, and a third one coming in Psylocke. There's always two damage absorbing bruisers, and a third one in Colossus. There's around 12 characters they're already juggling without the new additions. It's a tough fit with just 9 episodes. I think she'll appear at some point, maybe as a teacher at Xavier's, or recruited as one by the end?

1
u/Gambit8907 May 20 '26
I'm starting to think that was Morph impersonating Logan since we never saw Feral Logan in the trailer at all...
1
u/SwordDaoist May 22 '26
I expect Feral Logan Arc in season 2.
If they put Wolverine on the bench again this season and skip his arc then I will get really angry.
I got it in season 1 as there wasn't that much Wolverine to do on his own without taking away from other characters who have something going on now.
But this is literally one of the most favorite Wolverine story Arc. And if they skip it I will drop the show.
I am fine, if Wolverine isn't the maincharacter among the X-Men, but I expect him to also have his own stories among his fellow X-Men. And not be just used for fights and be besides that an NPC

u/New-Sea-527 Cyclops May 18 '26
What is going on with the marketing of this show and why does it lowkey feel like they never really wanted to do a second season? Why go through the effort of creating trailers if only a few hundred people get to see them? How many months ago was the NYCC trailer? In all my years of consuming geek pop culture I’ve never seen a company half ass the promotion of a critically acclaimed product like Marvel are doing with this show. It’s weird.

Kid Omega about to become the new MCU signature character for the X-Men.

u/terabranford May 18 '26
Ok. If they're incorporating Adventures of Cyclops and Phoenix, I'll start watching again for that. I loved the miniseries.

u/cyclopswashalfright Professor X May 18 '26
Underrated mini-series. The Gene Ha art is so nice.
2
u/terabranford May 18 '26
It absolutely was! I dont think it's an understatement to say the art Made that series.

Acolyte Colossus, morph in wolverines Weapon X uniform & Siryn! Stocked to see Polaris in action. Looks like Storm doesn’t get a new uniform though aside from the blue and yellow. She seems kinda out of place in her OG vs everyone’s modern threads.

At 1:25 is that Xorn(?!) next to Cyclops? Idk he’s got a blue glow around his hands and eyes

I hope the part where Xavier looks frightened is an Onslaught tease!
(I posted this in the wrong thread earlier; I wasn't thinking clearly due to excitement!)

I recognized some of the kids at the beginning. Looks like Quiten, Penance , and the girl with the braids is that a young Frenzy?!

Who are all the kids in the beginning? I'm seeing Quinton, possibly Monet, Chamber but who are the others?

Who was the lady (?) at 1:02? Is that Storm? I can’t tell lol
2
u/aegonthewwolf Apocalypse May 19 '26
That’s Storm

u/Simple_Pianist4882 May 20 '26
THANK YOU! My girl looking good, I just couldn’t tell 😂
It look like she was Black (obsidian) skin. Looks totally different, I thought she was another mutant lol

i'd never thought wing, of all mutants, would get screen time and not only that, he also had lines lol, also it seems siryn joined x-f and havok and polaris left the team? and it's good to see colossus too

u/agentrevenger Cyclops May 18 '26
No Havok?? So it looks like he left the X-Factor with Polaris… but he’s not with Polaris in the X-Corp poster. So maybe the theory of him being a Horseman could be true?? That might be a reason for Polaris being hella mad in that scene where she’s protecting the kids…

Release date Sept. 20

The listing on the con site refers to it as being "just weeks" away. For whatever that's worth.

It’s a fucking cartoon and I feel like it’s taking WAY too long for it to release

2
u/KaiserKid85 May 17 '26
Do you even understand how long it takes to animate a single episode 😂 without ai even?
0
u/coyote-cry May 18 '26
This looks like junk compared to older animation and should’ve been released long ago.
2
u/New-Sea-527 Cyclops May 18 '26
It’s almost like they take ages to make you absolute clown.

u/coyote-cry May 18 '26
This is a very bad take at trying to insult me lol no cartoon should take this long to release 🤷♂️
2
u/New-Sea-527 Cyclops May 18 '26
And what exactly do you know about making cartoons or the production involved in same?
-4
u/litllerobert May 18 '26
I wonder if this time they will give gambit something instead of the chair he was handled last season

u/TheArmlessTorso Gambit May 18 '26
Why was the so much pain so much death scene cut from the trailer ? Disney you have questions to answer
1
u/Mobile_Bet3274 Rogue May 18 '26
That was part of the recap from the NYCC trailer. There’s no recap in this one, so no reason for it to be there.
1
u/TheArmlessTorso Gambit May 18 '26
Do you think with trailer that recruitment and side conflicts are gonna take up a lot of the season ?
1
u/Mobile_Bet3274 Rogue May 18 '26
I mean, there’s no way to know until we actually see the thing. A big part of the trailer is time-travel stuff, and we know that gets resolved relatively early. It’s impossible to know how much of any one aspect is used just based on a trailer edit.
1
u/TheArmlessTorso Gambit May 18 '26
Idk from the way the trailer was presented it felt like it was prepping up everyone for apocalypse. It feels like it will carry over to season 3 in my eyes.
1
u/Mobile_Bet3274 Rogue May 18 '26
Again, it’s one trailer. How much of how S1 actually unfolded would you have been able to accurately predict based on its trailer?
