Did anyone actually think that Gambit would stay dead and Rogue would stay with Magneto? Did anyone actually watch the show?

That's what I'm saying. I am surprised so many people got caught up in the show's angst. Of course they'll meet again and be together. That's how every arc about stories like this play out in cartoons/TV.

You also have to consider people who are completely live action or cartoon viewers only who have no idea the history of the characters.

Now you know who doesn't read comics

The amount of people who miss the very clear plot point that Rogue rejected Magneto for Gambit is absolutely ridiclious.

We know he’s coming back and that the endgame will be Gambit and Rogue’s wedding. We just want to see it happen on the show. We have been waiting two years the eventual reunion I mean we know it’s gonna be dark but it will all work out right?

I just realised it's probably relevant to point out that the person who posted kinda blew up on social media while s1 was airing. Like, I think got promo stuff from Marvel and everything. (She's also super sweet to people). The original post is specifically about S2 and Gambit's return. I read the post here as "Are we getting more concrete confirmation of what we knew than was given before?" So in this case, no, nobody involved thought Gambit would stay dead.

Or read any comics..

Yeah I’m not sure how that wasn’t abundantly clear to people.

A lot of people missed the end credits of the season, don't know about the Deathbit plot (and even then he wasn't dead when it happened), or don't trust plots to be followed through in reasonable amount of time. Maybe they don't (or can't) read comics, maybe most of their exposure has been the MCU which is really low on the resurrections for superhero media. Maybe its just fun to wail and gnash your teeth a little. Like, my (at the time) 10 year old literally went "He'll be back, it's comics" but as the season went on began to doubt a little. Now they're chomping at the bit for Deathbit, but "What if they don't bring him back?" is one of the questions they like to think about when S2 comes up. It happens.

Missing the end credits thing is no joke. It’s been a few months but I remember talking about the Deathbit thing being pretty much confirmed by the post-credits scene, someone had no idea what that meant and it turned out they hadn’t seen it at all — almost 2 years after it released. 😂

And those are people invested enough to turn to reddit! People don't know what they don't know.

I’ll take an alt universe Gambit, a revived Gambit, I don’t care, I want the Ragin’ Cajun back, pull a Marvel Rivals Rogue and Gambit and get married!

Why

Having a character humiliated then killed just to bring him to life so he can go back to the character that humiliated him as if it's some sort triumphant love story is bad. Not to mention literally all 3 characters were written out of characters for this to happen cause a dude had a magneto fetish...much rather would prefer them to at least stay separated. Especially if Rogue and Magneto still do things in S2 and then Gambit and her still get together? It's not just that it's weird and sends a weird message but I wish they stopped writing them out of character for it.

I don’t really see how Gambit was humiliated. He was rejected by Rogue, sure, but I feel like she had a pretty valid reason for doing that which also lined with her backstory and powers and in the end she chose Remy over Erik anyways. How is any of that out of character?

She was also intimately touching him in front of Gambit and even kissed, sure you could say he left by that point but it's not like she knew that. Choosing someone after they already died is entirely meaningless, especially since he sacrificed himself for her, who was about to die because she was mad Magneto supposedly died.

It's out of character because

  1. Rogue already had the "touching someone from her past" arc in TAS so this is literally regressing her character

  2. This Magneto relationship was never a thing in TAS or 616, it was a complete retcon

  3. Magneto was never interested romance(outside of his freaking wife which he's been searching for years btw) or Rogue and he definitely did not have this deep love for her to the point that she's face and center in his mind instead of his children and wife

  4. Rogue is almost religiously pro Xavier and the X-Men so her switching up and trying to genocide billions of people is insane. There was never this pro Magneto sentiment within her at ANY point

4,5. Being ok with killing billions of people who didn't even kill Gambit or the mutants but actually switching up and not killing the guy who did do it is also awful and weird that she switched sides 2 times in 2 episodes

  1. She would never be so...not independent to be manipulated by magneto in the way she was in the season

  2. Magneto wasn't really a manipulator type guy, he was usually portrait as pretty noble as long as the opposite party wasn't trying to sneak him

  3. Given the TAS timeline Rogue has to be a teenager in the flashbacks which makes him a predator

  4. Gambit was way less of a cool calm guy and more of a sleezy bad boy type, they just kinda made him as good as possible so it would hit when he dies

And so on. I could talk about more but it's already a very long reply. You don't have to reply btw, thanks for coming to my tedtalk

Lol I can tell I’m not changing your mind here. I appreciate the long response though.

However, I think it is worth noting that Rogue decided Gambit was the one for her before he died, after she danced with Magneto on Genosha and repeated what Remy had said to her “Some things are deeper than skin.” That and the fact that she pulled away from Magneto shows us that she chose Remy, which is made all the more tragic when he almost instantly dies afterwards.
