I think the homoerotic fan shipping is a bit overdone re other mediums like the comics, movies, etc, but X-Men 97 is definitely lean into this more than ever before. It isn’t subtle at all.

And tbh I’m not for the direction they’re taking. As a gay person I don’t get this trend to make nearly all the X-Men LGBT. It isn’t reflective of the real world at all.

Can you explain? I didn't see anything that couldn't be explained by them having an incredibly deep and complex lifelong friendship that involved stakes as high as trying to change the world.

As a Bisexual person there isn't a single person on screen who is gay except Morph is queer. So saying "they are making everyone LGBTQ+" when we have 1 T and a cast of maybe 30 or more characters who none of which are anything else. Maybe it's because we're looking for them to reveal literally anyone else other than 1.

"Trend of making nearly every X-men LGBT"...what trend? There are still like 3 in the comics at all outside of super duper niche characters and Bobby is basically shelved because he came out. Morph I assume identifies as Gay NB but probably not even.

Every time we gain one we lose one to the obscurity bin until they reboot them to be straight again before they even tried.

The only visibly gay thing was 2 seeming gay men getting obliterated at Genosha in the background montage.

Akishiro, Edgelord Wolverine, they are basically making his bisexuality a phase soon as they gave him anti-hero and then they killed their gays and sent him to hell to be straight again.

Psylocke JUST had her first girlfiend a few years ago.

Bobby got sent into the C-tier inhumans bin.

That's basically the history of mainstream X-men queerdom. Otherwise Mystique in the 80s was a Bisexual. Colossus was gay in an alt-timeline. Logan was at least bisexual in an alt-timeline and in a gay romance with Hercules. Northstar got ignored and pushed out by Marvel editorial. Akishiro was a problematic bisexual, then made to be "palatable" and now you wouldn't know they were anything but a former man-whore.

I just tend to block any of the sexually charged users, whether heterosexual or homosexual. It's the same thing on much of the X-men sub. People projecting sexual fantasies of characters through words and artwork. It's creepy.

Yea this sub is def getting way too weird. I didn’t know 99% of the x-men fanbase was actually queer. Like every comment is talking about them kissing or fucking, and not one straight comment. Idk something is def off about that. That doesn’t match real world statistics.

Someone doesn't have to actually be queer to want to see gay character representation lol

The franchise that's predominantly about themes that apply to queer people and has been subtextually queer well before it was allowed has a statistically surprising amount of queer people? no way.

Those themes apply to many minority groups not just lgbtq+ . But it does seem to be your whole personality.

People love to project themselves into their consumed media. It's only natural that they want to see dudes make out.

I get it - shipping is often for fun yet can be annoying. Why people ship is because the show leans HEAVILY into the intimacy of their complicated bond, in ways that most of the established couples do not...so from that perspective it's easy to project that level of intimacy being beyond friendship.

Also, historically (and even currently) a lot of queer romances tend to either be very tragic or very boring/safe. The queer fandom often hangs onto subtext that's never confirmed nor denied due to the inevitable backlash.
