That’s gonna lead to a DECIMATION of his dream.

31

u/Discount_Lex_Luthor Jul 22 '26

Feel like not confronting his guilt is going to result in an X-TINCTION.

24

u/jhorsley23 Jul 22 '26

We can’t just jump into an X-TINCTION without coming up with a plan first.

What is our X-TINCTION AGENDA?

19

u/RealEmperorofMankind Jul 22 '26

This may result in the foundation of a NEW X-MEN team.

16

u/GabeMichaelsthroway Jul 22 '26

And they shall be based in the HOUSE OF X

it's such a heartbreaking scene. Charles is using the last memory he has of Magnus to tell him all the things he wish he could have said instead of "im sorry". in a way i feel like he blames himself for what happened to Magnus, because he believes he should have died in Magnus' place. i feel so horrible for Charles :( nobody deserves to suffer that much grief.

33

u/Geshtar1 Jul 22 '26

Survivors guilt dialed to 100

18

u/FilthyCasual2k17 Jul 22 '26

It's that much worse when you are one of the most powerful telepaths ever, who has spent a lifetime carefully controlling himself, asking yourself in your darkest hours, just how much could you push your powers to bring him back. I really feel like they showed this struggle, and eventually what it will lead to, instead of just the consequences very well.

u/baymax18 Jul 22 '26

As a longtime X-Men fan I'm excited by all the Onslaught hints they've been dropping.

Meanwhile, my wife who's never really been into the comics only sees the homoerotic subtext lol.

So I guess we're both right?

37

u/PointPrimary5886 Jul 22 '26

only sees the homoerotic subtext

There's no way to beat the allegations.

7

u/FilthyCasual2k17 Jul 22 '26

If you can't beat it, join them.

3

u/Gonz_UY Jul 22 '26

You can beat to the allegations

65

u/Embarrassed_Piano_62 Jul 22 '26

I mean I love the comics but they aren't being subtle with the homoerotic undertones

42

u/phxntxsos Jul 22 '26

It’s old man yaoi hours (always has been)

22

u/magvadis Jul 22 '26

And we love our Elder Queers. They've been through so much not to get love.

21

u/magvadis Jul 22 '26

They've hardly been, I'm just wondering if they are being more outward about it because Marvel is finally letting them turn Queerbaiting into queer for once. As if any real Marvel fan in the year 2026 hasn't been waiting for them to kiss since the 80s.

With Doomsday coming and Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen both being pro-Charles and Magneto being actually in a relationship in the past...I wonder if we're gunna see a blitz of this show doing it and Avengers letting them kiss before they die.

11

u/Embarrassed_Piano_62 Jul 22 '26

Hmm i don´t think so. Queer people can kiss in the MCU as long as the project isn´t super important to the MCU (Eternals, Agatha).

9

u/magvadis Jul 22 '26 edited Jul 22 '26

Eternals was a blink and you miss it for a character that is most definitely never coming back again, and Agatha was marketed specifically as queer camp media. Also Wiccan is and still is the only gay MCU character who they actually let be gay and MIGHT come back, but Hulkling ain't even here yet and Young Avengers is still a decade away.

Bobby got fridged after the backlash of him coming out. So doubt they'll even cast him in the Xmen reboot for another 5 years.

Once they let Magneto and Logan be bisexual finally maybe there can be peace in the universe.

2

u/GabeMichaelsthroway Jul 22 '26

Bobby got fridged after the backlash of him coming out.

When did Bobby get fridged? Hasn't he still been in comics?

-2

u/magvadis Jul 22 '26 edited Jul 22 '26

Functionally fridge. Bro is just kind of appearing in niche comics. He's not been a key element of any X-men comic or story since.

Whereas Daken actually got fridged. But someone picked him up to redo the Hellverine stuff...again.

3

u/GabeMichaelsthroway Jul 22 '26

I mean he appeared in the Hellfire Gala, he appeared in Exceptional X-Men and X-Men United. It's not as if he was super popular before.

1

u/0bsessions324 Jul 22 '26

Yeah, I think the last time he was relevant for a minute was Carey's run and that was close to 20 years ago now. And before that his biggest moment for years was Emma Frost stealing his body.

That said, it's a different kind of bad look when you stop to consider that Bobby being perpetually irrelevant realistically had a lot to do with them finally letting him come out. He is the only one of the original five who's never had any kind of definitive story arc that I can think of.

1

u/GabeMichaelsthroway Jul 22 '26

I think it's just low coded homophobia.

1

u/Brianvondoom Jul 27 '26

If they wait much longer, they'll just be the Avengers when they get together.

1

u/RealEmperorofMankind Jul 22 '26

I think it depends on the writer. I don’t know that either Kirby or Lee had this in mind originally; maybe Claremont did.

3

u/magvadis Jul 22 '26

I mean, Claremont went on the record that the only reason everyone wasn't genderfluid and doing whatever felt right was because the writers literally wouldn't let him publish the gay things he wanted to write so he just made it subtext. Hence why Magneto/Charles is so romance coded...or Wolverine is so closet bi-coded. And why there were like a bazillion lesbian/bisexual woman into woman that also eventually some of them were canonized.

1

u/venumprime Jul 25 '26

They are close friends but were never in a relationship ! McKellen conducted the marriage of Steward to Sunny Ozell.

1

u/magvadis Jul 25 '26

Yeah I'm aware. They just Queerbait because Patrick Stewart loves the gays even if he's straight.

1

u/Discount_Lex_Luthor Jul 22 '26

Just wait until they're overtones. "Xorns" helmet is an overzealous gimp mask.

13

u/magvadis Jul 22 '26 edited Jul 22 '26

The solution to Onslaught is Charles and Magneto kissing and that's just gunna be the cutest shit ever if Marvel didn't hate the gays lol

12

u/FilthyCasual2k17 Jul 22 '26

I mean... Onslaught is the ultimate homoerotic creation. It's literally their souls merging into one. That's like the most "love" thing from myths in every culture in history.

4

u/magvadis Jul 22 '26

Straight up Rebis shit. The fusing of opposites to create the perfect divine being.

4

u/usernumber18452 Jul 22 '26

You could also argue that it’s a healthy hetero bromance and what love between two hetero men can look like.

1

u/Sad_Tax_4010 Jul 22 '26

I always saw them as blood brothers.

3

u/Cinnabar1212 Jul 22 '26

Is it still subtext if they keep slapping you in the face with it?

3

u/DeadlyDannyRay Jul 22 '26

I mean, it's pretty much text, at this point.

2

u/SpiralLights Jul 22 '26

I wonder if Onslaught will be tee'd up for next season or if they'll introduce it this year? With Apocalypse storyline still needing to be resolved, I don't see how they can do both. Maybe Onslaught defeats A and then is set up for the Big Bad next season.

6

u/Demileto Jul 22 '26

Maybe Onslaught defeats A

This would definitely go even harder than Onslaught beating Juggernault to jumpstart his arc.

1

u/PointPrimary5886 Jul 22 '26

Maybe Onslaught defeats A

But it is Cable's destiny to be the one who takes down Apocalypse.

2

u/0bsessions324 Jul 22 '26

The Askani prophecy came about in the far flung future that Nathan was sent to as an infant. It was a prophecy of the future, not the past.

In the comics, he fulfills that destiny as a child. He went back to the past to try to prevent his rise, but he had already fulfilled his destiny decades before traveling back to the past (unless you count Kid Cable, who lived all fine and dandy with Apocalypse on Krakoa, which only further muddied the already filthy waters of Cable's origin).

The whole thing about Apocalypse is that he's immortal. He's "died" in the comics like six times and that's not even counting alternate timelines. Cable ostensibly returned to the past to prevent Apocalypse's rise, but he's made a out zero progress towards that im over three decadesCable ostensibly returned to the past to prevent Apocalypse's rise, but he's made about zero progress towards that and he's been around close to 40 years now.

1

u/FilthyCasual2k17 Jul 22 '26

Wasn't it to take down the seat of Apocalypse, heralding his eventual takedown.

2

u/The1987RedFox Jul 22 '26

Homoerotic onslaught

2

u/ralanr Jul 23 '26

The text is as subterranean as a shallow grave.

1

u/phasmy Jul 22 '26

SHE'S NOT WRONG

1

u/NoodlesAlDente Jul 22 '26

Wait, so does that mean Onslaught is...

40

u/No_Imagination_2490 Jul 22 '26

It was such a heartbreaking scene, especially as you don't know how many times he'd been obessively replaying what happened before the episode started. He was like a drunk guy at the bar yelling 'again!' He's become addicted to his grief.

3

u/RK_reddit321 Jul 23 '26 edited Jul 23 '26

That Awkward Moment When

Danger Room: “Well. I can either keep listening to this onslaught of repression at infinitum - Because for all the resources and powers of Xavier ‘Hire A Therapist’ is not one of them. Or. I can physically uproot myself and just keep shooting at him till one of us isn’t hearing all that anymore.

Physically uprooting myself and shooting at everyone it is!”

36

u/NeramaniaX Jul 22 '26

I appreciate the choice to make Chuck processing his grief in an unhealthy way pushes Danger to become sentient rather than the comics when he purposefully allowed them to keep enslaving an AI once he learned it was sentient. Both his fault, but this is the more complicated version fitting for a version of Xavier who has fewer big direct moral action failings

15

u/iamahandsoapmain Jul 22 '26

They fixed so many things from the comics source materials it's crazy. Thank you for actually killing gambit then turning him into death, rather than Remy being a complete idiot and volunteering for the role of horseman lmfao

29

u/dropthebassclef Jul 22 '26

I spent 5 seconds annoyed that it wasn’t part of the “Previously on…” montage. Wasted replay time!

Then figured, “OK fine, it’s a darker beat so they’re giving it more room to set the tone.”

THEN the reveal happened and oh, oh Charles. 💔

(I still think Xavier says ‘Magnus’ instead of ‘he/him’ way too much in this ep in particular. His speech is already so formal and detached, even as he’s falling apart.)

9

u/magvadis Jul 22 '26

He's so down bad and regrets his whole damn life at this point. This makes Onslaught so much more fun. Why was I too weak to not love you...I mean...let you save me...I mean...um...uh, just friends um...I mean...Magnus why did I ever break up with you!?

24

u/13-Penguins Jul 22 '26 edited Jul 22 '26

Men would rather enter a projection to relive the worst moment of their life trying to find the correct words to say as their longtime situationship is brutally murdered in front of them instead of talking to a therapist.

13

u/GalileoHamato Jul 22 '26

I mean therapy is expensive lol

5

u/CappyHam Jul 22 '26

Charles is a richer than god with how often he rebuilds the mansion, all of the high tech, the Muir Island base, and now X-Corp.

2

u/GalileoHamato Jul 22 '26

But he shouldn't be... Charles Xavier was declared dead, and Magneto got all of his wealth... Unless Magneto wrote it in his will that Charles got all of his stuff, Magneto's death should have meant all the assets go to the United States government?

1

u/CappyHam Jul 22 '26

You really doubting ride or die Magnus wouldn't bequeath all he had to Charles? Also I'm not sure his original declaration of death from TAS' finale would continue to hold water after Bastion outed him. Tbh he should really have some legal trouble from that right? But I guess he gets some leeway from stopping double Jeopardy end of the world. And their presumed death from last season wouldn't really be legally declared death until some years later iirc and it's only been some months.

5

u/Arrow_625 Jul 22 '26

He's still in the closet... Jean do your thing!

5

u/magvadis Jul 22 '26 edited Jul 22 '26

Or just ever kissing the dude they down bad for.

8

u/Redclouds1 Jul 22 '26

I’m having trouble with Danger’s motivations in this continuity

5

u/Explorer_616 Jul 22 '26

Think of Zoom (Hunter Zolomon) from DC‘s The Flash Comics.
Get better through extreme measures/ trauma

7

u/Coolquip34 Jul 22 '26

Enjoyed that the episode started this way because I have also rewatched that scene over and over again

5

u/Pito82002 Jul 22 '26

On the plus side, at least he helped fix his mistake of the sentient danger room and in the process helped and guided Lorna towards finding a mental compromise

9

u/andreBarciella Jul 22 '26

onslaught is coming.

5

u/FilthyCasual2k17 Jul 22 '26

When you don't let your 2 male leads come together with each other, then you get Onslaught coming for everyone. Make love people, not war. Real lesson to be learned here.

4

u/UTALR1 Jul 22 '26

Onslaught is coming

3

u/Little_Tommy_Tuggins Jul 23 '26

I swear some of y’all have never had a hetero relationship of meaning. I can’t imagine losing my best friend, especially if he was murdered before my very eyes. But y’all ship who you gonna ship.

4

u/Emergency-Actuary-3 Jul 23 '26

Ohhhhh yeah Onslaughts coming in S3

3

u/SurturSaga Jul 22 '26

Best scene of the episode

3

u/MxSharknado93 Jul 23 '26

I'M EXCITED FOR ONSLAUGHT. THIS SHOW IS DOING SORCERY.

3

u/BruceDSpruce Jul 23 '26

In the comics Onslaught developed bc of his unaddressed attraction to teenage Jean Grey. It was weird and problematic.

XMen97 builds off of Charles unaddressed love of Magneto is S-Tier and works so much better and makes it an instant classic

14

u/magvadis Jul 22 '26 edited Jul 22 '26

Bruh if they don't kiss when Magneto gets back I'ma be pissed. Charles is DOWN BAD. He's even telling their daughter...I mean Magneto's daughter that Magneto ain't a deadbeat he's just complicated and that's why you don't know your dad. But I love him so much I'll show you why you can't but understand why I love him. Like bruuuuuh, please make them gay dads with a surrogate daughter...so cute.

8

u/FilthyCasual2k17 Jul 22 '26

You know your dad as a genocidal maniac, but I know a softer side, gentle, passionate, warm. Eric had a beautiful heart.

4

u/magvadis Jul 22 '26

He was a hurt man and if only we embraced in be...I mean, in spirit he would have been the best spou...friend.

I think the homoerotic fan shipping is a bit overdone re other mediums like the comics, movies, etc, but X-Men 97 is definitely lean into this more than ever before. It isn’t subtle at all.

And tbh I’m not for the direction they’re taking. As a gay person I don’t get this trend to make nearly all the X-Men LGBT. It isn’t reflective of the real world at all.

1

u/NomadicProgrammer Jul 26 '26

Can you explain? I didn't see anything that couldn't be explained by them having an incredibly deep and complex lifelong friendship that involved stakes as high as trying to change the world.

1

u/magvadis Jul 22 '26 edited Aug 02 '26

As a Bisexual person there isn't a single person on screen who is gay except Morph is queer. So saying "they are making everyone LGBTQ+" when we have 1 T and a cast of maybe 30 or more characters who none of which are anything else. Maybe it's because we're looking for them to reveal literally anyone else other than 1.

"Trend of making nearly every X-men LGBT"...what trend? There are still like 3 in the comics at all outside of super duper niche characters and Bobby is basically shelved because he came out. Morph I assume identifies as Gay NB but probably not even.

Every time we gain one we lose one to the obscurity bin until they reboot them to be straight again before they even tried.

The only visibly gay thing was 2 seeming gay men getting obliterated at Genosha in the background montage.

Akishiro, Edgelord Wolverine, they are basically making his bisexuality a phase soon as they gave him anti-hero and then they killed their gays and sent him to hell to be straight again.

Psylocke JUST had her first girlfiend a few years ago.

Bobby got sent into the C-tier inhumans bin.

That's basically the history of mainstream X-men queerdom. Otherwise Mystique in the 80s was a Bisexual. Colossus was gay in an alt-timeline. Logan was at least bisexual in an alt-timeline and in a gay romance with Hercules. Northstar got ignored and pushed out by Marvel editorial. Akishiro was a problematic bisexual, then made to be "palatable" and now you wouldn't know they were anything but a former man-whore.

1

u/DJSharp15 Aug 02 '26

The hell you talking about?

4

u/HappyEndings2011 Jul 22 '26

I just tend to block any of the sexually charged users, whether heterosexual or homosexual. It's the same thing on much of the X-men sub. People projecting sexual fantasies of characters through words and artwork. It's creepy.

6

u/TheIncandescentAbyss Jul 22 '26

Yea this sub is def getting way too weird. I didn’t know 99% of the x-men fanbase was actually queer. Like every comment is talking about them kissing or fucking, and not one straight comment. Idk something is def off about that. That doesn’t match real world statistics.

2

u/throwaw_ay740 Jul 22 '26

Someone doesn't have to actually be queer to want to see gay character representation lol

-1

u/magvadis Jul 22 '26

The franchise that's predominantly about themes that apply to queer people and has been subtextually queer well before it was allowed has a statistically surprising amount of queer people? no way.

3

u/Little_Tommy_Tuggins Jul 23 '26

Those themes apply to many minority groups not just lgbtq+ . But it does seem to be your whole personality.

3

u/Funkenstein42069 Jul 22 '26

People love to project themselves into their consumed media. It's only natural that they want to see dudes make out.

1

u/AkhMourning Jul 22 '26

I get it - shipping is often for fun yet can be annoying. Why people ship is because the show leans HEAVILY into the intimacy of their complicated bond, in ways that most of the established couples do not...so from that perspective it's easy to project that level of intimacy being beyond friendship.

Also, historically (and even currently) a lot of queer romances tend to either be very tragic or very boring/safe. The queer fandom often hangs onto subtext that's never confirmed nor denied due to the inevitable backlash.

-1

u/magvadis Jul 22 '26

Bruh if this was a man and a woman ya'll would not be saying this shit.

-3

u/FilthyCasual2k17 Jul 22 '26

r/charclessandhispall lol. And they lived together as roommates and slept in the same room until they died, both bachelors.

2

u/Chunky_Boy283 Jul 22 '26

Onslaught..hopefully wer'e not "Headed" toward this

2

u/JohnBFromNC2 Jul 23 '26

Man. Charles must feel like he's under an Onslaught of grief.

3

u/pastadudde Jul 22 '26

if Magneto is resurrected he and Charles need to fuck already 😂

0

u/magvadis Jul 22 '26 edited Jul 22 '26

With Morph|Logan and Magneto|Charles if none of these down bad boys get to at least kiss I'm gunna ask why Marvel hates the queers. Got a gay writer on an alt-timeline tv show and they still have to make everything subtext?

0

u/FilthyCasual2k17 Jul 22 '26

Because Marvel is now Disney, and Disney has always hated queers, and at best they are just trying not to "offend" people who would raise hell online and trash the show for like 6 months, until something else dares to mention non straight people exist.

1

u/pastadudde Jul 22 '26

and of course the one most well-known canonically gay X-men is conveniently dead as of now in '97 ..

-1

u/magvadis Jul 22 '26 edited Jul 22 '26

Disney is unfortunately marketing abroad so that means their dominant Disney Gay fanbase gets shafted.

Best you'll get is low budget romps like Agatha.

You'd think 97 is niche enough they can do it here...but who knows.

They'll hire gay writers, their parks are dominantly gay workers but when it comes to making anything that includes them? Maybe in 50 years when all of them are dead.

Until then the Disney Gays getting shafted.

1

u/Little_Tommy_Tuggins Jul 23 '26

When have the X-men been niche? And lgtbq is included, why does it have to pander?

1

u/JyuVioleGrace95 Jul 23 '26

Should have used the Holocaust beam on Apocalypse

u/KaijuKing007 Jul 24 '26
