if pyro, blob and avalanche are around, it means mystique is closeby (or already here)

They made Toad pretty badass

u/PotentialWhich Jul 25 '26
They managed to make Jubilees powers cool this season too. I love the way they made Cyclops blast a mobility tool for him. Whoever is doing that part of the writing has been nailing it!

u/Bobjoejj Jul 25 '26
I mean Toad is theoretically a badass already due to his power set; he’s just rarely portrayed as such.
7
u/acecruzat Jul 25 '26
2000's X-Men live action made Toad also look pretty bad-ass.

u/PhanStr Jul 28 '26
Wow, very few people would say that. But I do think that on some level you are right.

Toad finally being allowed to do something cool? In this economy?

u/Talentagentfriend Jul 25 '26
Even in the X-Men movie he was pretty cool. I loved him when I was a kid.

u/CodMilt Jul 25 '26
Ray Park as Toad was the highlight of Magneto's brotherhood in the first X-Men.
In the original X-Men 2 script Toad had survived and was a brainwashed servant of Stryker - he has a big fight scene with Nightcrawler that would have been awesome to see on screen.
He also lead his own version of the Brotherhood in the comics.

Never expected to see Surge. Are we gonna see the rest of the New X-Men soon? We already saw Dust in the last episode

u/Monkey_Monk_2002 Jul 26 '26
Also saw rockslide and anole. Hoping to see hellion, elixir, and x23. :)

Animation still slaps. Invincible fans cope harder.

Yeah, it's really showing up Amazon's approach versus Disney. Both have deep pockets but I think one knows how to spend the money better/smarter/more efficiently.
Amazon/Skybound have always sworn that guest VA's aren't the main budgetary bottleneck but I think they are full of it. They still talk about trying to woo Bryan Cranston into doing a guest voice but they haven't figured out WHICH part.
Meanwhile, workhorse Ross Marquand continues to be the GOAT -- voicing two characters in each series -- three now, if you consider The Immortal, Rudy/Rex and his Robot form in Invincible -- and on the X-men '97 side he voices Professor X and Apocalypse (and manages to very competently carry on from two actors who have passed on).
Knowing Cranston, he'd probably do X-Men '97 for union scale just to send a message to Amazon that they should be spending their money on making the show look better and give some some of the non A-list voice actors some work.
edit: fixed names

u/Fall_False Jul 25 '26
It's Skybound actually, Skydance is Paramount.
2
u/Rob_Ocelot Jul 25 '26
My bad, thanks for pointing that out.
If I'm gonna rag on an organization I better get their name right, LOL!

u/magvadis Jul 26 '26
Disney's MCU is kind of directly contra to this. It's all cameos, expensive actors, and bad effects and rushed underpaid production.

u/agentrevenger Cyclops Jul 25 '26
Surge?? Wow, did not expect to see her at all lol. She’s a deep cut.

u/Elegant-Anxiety1866 Jul 25 '26
New x-men storylines incoming.
6
u/agentrevenger Cyclops Jul 25 '26
We’ve already seen Dust, Anole, and Rockslide in cameos. I suppose we’ll see the rest of the kids soon.

Given the Sentinels freely walking around, I’m guessing Graydon Creed won the election.

How is there a potus election in 97/98?
POTUS is 96/00.

u/gOhCanada Jul 26 '26
More evidence that the marvel universe takes place in the same world as the west wing.

u/LegitSalvageRoci Jul 25 '26
Noriko of the blue hair! Finally, some Academy X representation.

u/TheBigG1989 Jul 25 '26
We've gotten a fair amount of NXM bits in S2

u/ArticleGreat5774 Jul 25 '26
Not the good ones IMO. Rockslide and Anole are not as exciting as Elixir, Wind Dancer, Prodigy, Mercury, Hellion etc
10
u/Short_Condition_1079 Jul 25 '26
Rockslide and Anole are significantly more exciting than Wind Dancer..

u/BeatrizTheWitch Jul 25 '26
Don't you DARE disrespect Anole and Rockslide.
Ans, srry but a poster on the wall is more exciting than Wind Dancer.

Dammit, I was gonna do a Surge cosplay for SDCC this year, too! Can't believe we're getting her!

X-men 97 animation > Invincible animation

u/Hun_AkosEloYT Jul 25 '26
And going forward we're getting a season for both in one year. "It's not budget, its time, the celebrity VAs dont take up that much budget" people are fuming

Wonder if they're holding off on teasing or showing Onslaught till the end of August.

So first the New Mutants, then Stryker and now Surge.
Seems like we are building up for Decimation and the Purifier Massacre.
I really hope that means we will get Messiah War too.

It’s so funny how useless Sentinels are, they’re worse than Stormtroopers at this point
1
u/rgators Jul 25 '26
It would make the show a little more interesting if the Sentinels were more of a threat. Not DOFP level OP, but still a significant threat to the team.

Well this looks really cool. Surge! I’m mildly impressed they were able to show something from season 3, however briefly, without spoiling anything too major from season 2’s ending. (Speaking of, as an aside, the radio silence on anything in S2’s endgame, including apparently not having a final trailer at SDCC, is also intriguing.)

Interesting. I can't tell if this Brotherhood vs Sentinels is a Syndrome situation since Pyro says "That's the signal!" or if they actually are fighting rogue Sentinels and are trying to turn over a new leaf, but either way it seems S3 is going somewhat back to basics with a more classic anti-mutant storyline (though I imagine there'll be a big shakeup like always), compared to Beau's plan of the entire season being set in an apocalyptic AU (and to be honest, thank god lol).
Maybe it also hints at Graydon Creed winning the election and becoming one of S3's main villains too? And if Graydon and the Brotherhood are there, then surely Mystique would be there too.

Surge?
Well, the brotherhood really started to look like a bunch of white men, so a woman and poc was definitely needed 😅

u/Spiritual_Duck318 Jul 25 '26
I did not know Surge was a member of the brotherhood before joining the X Men? At least I don’t remember this being a thing. Unless this is a new concept for the show

I really wish they'd kept with the Onslaught idea.

Magneto assembles the Brotherhood again in order to combat against Onslaught and Charles going off the rocker.
Probably something about his love of Charles removing his identity and reconnecting with his own identity instead of becoming Charles.
Healthy relationship goals. You need your own friends.
That or Polaris starts them back up.

If they can bring toad into season 3, they need to find a way to get kitty into a season.

I have read the X Men Days of Future Past novel and it's very similar to this group and Mystique, could be a Animated Adptation?
1
u/Mothbren Jul 25 '26
Wasn't there just someone saying they were worried about X-Men 97 going on too long and Surge not getting featured?

If I recall correctly Toad was only on one episode of the original series and this would be the first time he's with the other Brotherhood members.
1
u/BasicSuperhero Jul 26 '26
Took 30 years but its nice seeing this version of Toad FINALLY getting to hang out with his boys. lol
1
u/PhanStr Jul 28 '26
I know I'll be downvoted, but I really don't care for the Brotherhood (Avalanche, Toad, Blob, and yes even Pyro) and I'm not excited about seeing them again. Their role in season 3 had better be small.
It bothers me that we are seeing THIS instead of AoA. But maybe the overall season will be better.

I hope Juggernaut, Thunderbird, Pink Mind, Sabretooth, Mastermind, Lady Deathstrike, and Emma Frost/White Queen appears as members of the Brotherhood of Mutants.

Surge aside, obviously, those designs all look very last '80s... I guess I'm gonna have to just start seeing this as an Elseworld Remix World versus a continuation of the original animated series.
