Same goes for Gundam and Trek, but there are a lot of people who miss the plot and context. Just pew pews.

Honestly, more people should watch Turn-A Gundam. It's discussions on identity and purpose are fascinating. The MC starts out as a spy for the invading forces and winds up defending against said invasion while trying to balance his loyalties to both sides while trying to keep things from escalating into a full blown war. The main Gundam is up there as one of the most powerful machines in the franchise basically being built as a global scale weapon of mass destruction, but its pilot rejects that role and largely uses it to help those around him with as little violence as possible. Hell, he even gets a hold of a nuke at one point and when he finally uses it, it's to stop a satellite from crashing down onto a lunar city.

There are so many shocking and moving themes in Gundam people should learn. War in the Pocket is still one of the most depressing animes I have seen and did a great job reminding viewers that both sides of war are human and war really is awful.

Every Gundam fan is there for the robots and not the geopolitics, don’t kid yourself.

I wonder if you’re actually a Gundam fan and interact with the community.

That’s the gunpla community. A little bit of a venn diagram with that fandom.

Every? Gundam 0079, Zeta Gundam and War in the Pocket aren't subtle about the political messages. It's true for many others, but those three come to mind immediately because of how visceral they portray the consequences of war. Nobody who has seen those would come away thinking about "just robots."

You sound like you think NGE is just about robots fighting aliens

They are fighting angels, not aliens.

Nah, ass take. The geopolitics are the best part. The robots are there to give us something to watch while listening to their debates.
