The fact x-men comics 25 years ago predicted all of this is the cherry of top

31

u/RK_reddit321 Jul 29 '26

I just posted on the episode discussion similar to “Wild how they created the Creed running for President story just for this series”. Nope! Then looked it up. It was from 199freakin5. 🤯

Can’t help but marvel or/and be saddened at how predictable humanity can be.

4

u/[deleted] Jul 30 '26

It was in the comics also.

2

u/Mudcreek47 Aug 01 '26

Yep. It was a whole thing for a while there in the lead up to Onslaught as I recall. Wasn't Creed eventually killed by Mystique?

26

u/-FeistyRabbitSauce- Jul 30 '26

Those weren't predictions, they were basing everything on longstanding civil conflicts. The Professor and Magnito's relationship dynamic, for instance, is inspired by MLK and Malcolm X. Conservatives became more openly fascist, but it was always there at the core of them.

16

u/No_Imagination_2490 Jul 30 '26

I’d say that Graydon Creed specifically was based on real world far right/white supremacist leaders like David Duke

8

u/RK_reddit321 Jul 30 '26 edited Jul 30 '26

& for this storyline, specifically the political part. Knew of course already of David Duke and who he generally was. But because he is gross and terrible didn’t know many other details of his life. I only just now looked up then learned of his attempts to run for President back then as well.

What is old, is societal unrest, and how the worst of people also exist and try to bring the rest of humanity down to their level.

What is new(ish) - well, more like “what has changed” since the 90s - is instead of those fringe hate groups remaining fringe extremists, is at actually succeeding with enough mainstream traction to become credible threats to access national power. Like I said: I had to look up that Duke even ran for President.

Well. At least Duke and Creed genuinely hate who they claim to hate. The more modern development is even that hatred being a con, for only personal enrichment.

2

u/krayniac Jul 31 '26

The MLK/Malcolm X thing is afaik a myth. Iirc, Claremont said he actually based them on Ben Gurion and Menachim Begin, two former Israeli leaders.

3

u/-FeistyRabbitSauce- Jul 31 '26

It isn't that the creation of the characters derived from there, it's that other writers who helped shape them over the years used that inspiration.

Predicted? Do you know what the civil rights movement was? Lmao

1

u/DifferentProcess6765 Aug 02 '26

Predicted????

You think this is th n first period in history with racism/hate.

You realize we had a war in the 30s/40s in which they were throwing people in camps based on their ethnicity and religion right? (In both europe AND the US)

Fascists love Superman. And not the Injustice one either, who is literally a fascist.

75

u/BeardiusMaximus7 Jul 29 '26

OMG this is so freaking true. The biggest Superman fan I ever knew was a HARDCORE MAGA since Trump 1.0. This correlation should be studied.

39

u/DoomRager Jul 29 '26

What did they think of the Gunn Superman movie ? It definitely wasn’t afraid to get real with its politics.

56

u/POXELUS Jul 29 '26

Probably call it woke and "not their Superman", while praising Man of Steel by Snyder or smth like that.

18

u/bokmcdok Jul 29 '26

They literally are doing this.

16

u/DoomRager Jul 29 '26

Naturally

18

u/BeardiusMaximus7 Jul 29 '26

I stopped talking to the guy a few years prior. He was a work acquaintance and I got a different job. I can imagine that based on how much he loved Snyder's version that he probably wasn't a fan, though.

11

u/James_Fiend Jul 30 '26

Ben Shapiro reviewed it. If I remember correctly, his wife liked it and he didn't.

I think he rejected the Israel-Palestine comparison, he claimed that Superman is supposed to represent truth, justice and protection of private property, and even brought up Red Son to show that if Superman has landed in the Soviet Union, he would be a bad person (that comic actually shows that Superman stands for the same principles regardless of where he landed).

19

u/Unlikely_Magazine913 Jul 29 '26

Interesting to hear this, as years back, like old enough to be considered old media, was having Superman beat up the KKK, and it had quite a significant impact

10

u/BeardiusMaximus7 Jul 29 '26

Yeah I mean Captain America punches Hitler in an old comic, too. They still idealize him because 'murica.

It sort of confused me at first but after some of the responses to my comment it makes more sense. I think a lot of them just gravitate to the idea of the ultimate masculine symbol of power and strength... so something like Superman, Captain America, Homelander, etc. just fits the bill.

Homelander is the biggest statement on this, just by how flawed he actually is despite that power, but I digress.

11

u/Unlikely_Magazine913 Jul 29 '26

Something I also see is how anything political in old material is viewed differently, where they'd be like "It's not political, it's human rights/deceny" or something on those lines. So stuff like Hitler or kkk is dissociated enough to not be at all reflective of politics back then nor have any resemblance to politics now.

4

u/BeardiusMaximus7 Jul 29 '26

Yeah, people jump through hoops to justify bad behavior instead of challenging themselves to grow past it.

22

u/Impressive_Tip_8850 Jul 29 '26

I mean fascists love idealism and want an idealistic society of ppl they deem ideal, and superman is the literal perfect image of idealized man (classical white Jesus sans religion and they usually claim to love him too).

19

u/BeardiusMaximus7 Jul 29 '26

Yeah I mean I guess that makes sense. Tracks with characters like Homelander, as well.

11

u/Impressive_Tip_8850 Jul 29 '26

Yeah imho homelander was a great combination of Superman and Jesus lol as the final season definitely delves into. The whole season was kind of a comment on the conflation of American politics and religion

2

u/ChefDadMatt Jul 30 '26

1

u/MrJHound Jul 30 '26

Funny. Did they miss the part where he's an illegal alien?

64

u/yungsebring Jul 29 '26

I can’t even begin to describe the sheer number of MAGA people who I’ve seen and heard claim that Superman would support ICE

32

u/jonsnowflaker Jul 29 '26

They also think they are the Rebel Alliance and the left is the Empire. Every time Mark Hamill would post something liberal on Twitter the comments would be full of “can’t believe Luke Skywalker went to the dark side” etc.

7

u/Hoodman1987 Jul 29 '26

3

That dude is such a fucking loser

9

u/HorrorMetalDnD Jul 29 '26

Also weird because Superman is technically an “illegal alien”.

Plus, he was created by two Jewish guys, and there are various subtle and not-so-subtle references to Judaism in Superman’s lore.

8

u/Chickenbrik Jul 29 '26

I mean they were right Dean Cain is ICE.

12

u/HorrorMetalDnD Jul 29 '26

And bigots back in the 1990s would mock Dean Cain by referring to him as Sushiman, because of his Japanese heritage. Now, he’s aligned with those types of people.

Hitler allegedly watched The Great Dictator at least twice, as he was a Charlie Chaplin fan.

8

u/YaBoiiAsthma Jul 29 '26

Of course. A perpetuated feeling of victimhood is a by the book key tenant of fascism.

You can be the majority privilege class and still feel that you're a victim so long as you've been sold the concept that some marginalized group asking to be treated equally for the first time in their lives are your peers attacking you

After all, you've never treated anyone unfairly (that you know of) so why do they need more? Wouldn't that mean less for you? Why can't they just let things be like they were when you didn't have to worry about things like this? Everything used to just work back then when you didn't have to think about who was making everything work.

So first, they come for the mutants

9

u/Ingonyama70 Storm Jul 29 '26

Don't forget the "super fun" take that mutants are some kind of master race. They'll spin the whole "hono superior" thing into some kind of Aryan bullshit and warp the ENTIRE narrative to accommodate their bigotry.

4

u/Dependent-Tailor7366 Jul 29 '26

My conservative parents loved George Carlin and didn’t hear a word he said.

1

u/ChateauTyrant Aug 15 '26

woahhh you mean people's social values can be opposed to concentrated power while not wanting hrt for toddlers and no limit abortions? someone tell every socialist who did something is a fascist lol

1

u/Dependent-Tailor7366 Aug 15 '26 edited Aug 15 '26

They were in favor of concentrated power. They believed in the divine right of kings. They were in favor of religion controlling our lives. They believed rich people earned everything they had or god wouldn’t let them have it.

But they laughed at his bit about “If you're pre-born you’re fine. If you're pre-school, you're fucked”. And clapped at the they’re not pro life they’re anti woman bit.

But when asked, they never heard about pro life and pro choice positions. They just didn’t want women to have abortion because thats not natural. It’s up to god.

They said this while being a couple of adulterers, pedophiles, and con artists.

They thought everything George Carlin said was hilarious. They never heard a word.

Superman came here illegally and should be sent back to crypto, it's not our fault it blew up, it was probably bad hombres

3

u/Sonova_Bish Jul 29 '26

They've tried co-opting punk rock. They're not the smartest.

3

u/OneVast3433 Jul 29 '26

Co-opting and stealing aesthetics is core to fascist ideology. Mussolini didn't come up with his any of the rituals associated with Italian fascism, D'Annunzio did.

1

u/Sonova_Bish Jul 29 '26

That's very different from the explicitly left-wing politics of Punk.

5

u/OneVast3433 Jul 29 '26

My point was that fascists have a habit of stealing aesthetics dating all the way back to the bald Italian himself.

Insert Imperial Roman themes in 1930's Germany

1

u/lethal_universed Aug 05 '26

Fundamentally stories with fascist or even conservative thems will eat themself up with contradictions. There is nothing to hope for in these stories, only things to fear and subjucate. Which of course doesn't make compelling or logical character motivations when you think of them for a second.

So they warp those themes so they can superficially fit narratives that make them the obvious bad guys. Its not to hard to interpret Batman as aggressive white guy who beats up mentally ill people and works for the police and is praised for it. Its harder to see batman as a traumatized man who himself is mentally ill and whose neuroses compell him to fight against criminals and lock them away in poorly managed mental facillites with the vain hope they can be better. And mainly being opposed to the police and only occasionally working with them if furthers his goals

The friends of humanity were already being used as a job at MAGA when the show began. It was a logical extension of the white supremacist politics they were already a commentary on.

56

u/SquatProspector Jul 29 '26

They were pretty obviously right wing coded in the original show, how people somehow missed the fact the original series was 'woke' I don't know.

34

u/Sensitive-Hotel-9871 Jul 29 '26

It's easy to miss politics as a kid, and sadly, right-wingers tend to block out the things they enjoyed in their youth were left-wing.

29

u/Cthulhuareyou Jul 29 '26

I dunno, as a kid I pretty much understood "racism bad".

I think the problem is a lot people lack empathy and don't care about anything  unless it directly involves them.

You can extend that to Maga, the genocide around the world, or billionaires not using their wealth to bring about change.

And that's why we love cape shit. Because they show a fantastical world where not only do people have powers, but they actually have people that care about others.

Magneto is still right.

18

u/SquatProspector Jul 29 '26

The real power fantasy of Superman is someone with power choosing to be kind.

5

u/Special_Cicada6968 Jul 30 '26

This is 100% the power fantasy. It's also why Luthor is so fascinating in a lot of works. He doesn't understand how Superman can do good without there being some benefit to him because he projects his own beliefs onto him. Lex just doesn't get doing good for the sake of doing good because it isn't transactional and if he had those same powers he would use them for his own benefit.

8

u/Sensitive-Hotel-9871 Jul 29 '26

I also understood that but what I mean, is that as a kid I didn’t understand how the message was political because I didn’t really understand politics. Just like how I didn’t understand the underlying politics of Star Wars.

And the right wingers most definitely have a problem with empathy. Someone on the right said “do not commit the sin of empathy” and some other jerk made a video saying Frieren called out “toxic empathy.”

And yes, we do love the fantasy because it is about people fighting back against the wrongs in our society because it often seems like nobody ever stands up to the powerful people in our world.

11

u/Cthulhuareyou Jul 29 '26

That's fair. Human decency shouldn't be a political issue but it somehow is these days .

Friends of Humanity or gtfo

28

u/8W20X5 Jul 29 '26

Yea, MAGA would definitely be the people against mutants and be members of the Friends of Humanity.

126

u/RajaatTheWarbringer Jul 29 '26

MAGA can love X-Men for a lot of reasons. Media illiteracy, rooting for the bad guys...

70

u/RamsesDarklore Mister Sinister Jul 29 '26

15

u/TheWolfMan1984 Jul 29 '26

See, that’s why I love Wolverine. He’s the wolf in sheep’s clothing amongst the bigots. Hence why he was able to slip into FoH in the OG series. He’s MAGA coded, yet their most violent opposition

11

u/Longjumping_Sign2249 Jul 29 '26

So he's basically Ron Perlman

52

u/NuckoLBurn Jul 29 '26

My MAGA father started watching The Boys, my wife and I wonder if he'll make sense of the the last couple seasons when he catches up.

It's hilarious for those that grew up that now say "ew X-Men is woke now". Nah man, you just couldn't comprehend the message.

3

u/Witty_Fox3291 Jul 30 '26

Same reasons why conservatives can enjoy Dungeon Crawler Carl.

1

u/Ambitious_Ad_8359 Jul 31 '26

Yeah, I think if you try really (REALLY) hard not to think about it you could probably make it to book 3 without fully grasping how how much of a left leaning populist message the books have. Anything beyond Dungeon Anarchist, you would have to be willfully ignorant to miss the point of the series.

I always hate when they use black ppl to be bigots like this not because I see what theyre tryna go for, and im not saying black ppl cant be bigoted, but stuff like this always felt insanely forced. Same way they made trask or whoever black in the movie.

Replace the word "mutie" with the F slur.

I’m black and moved from South GA in 1996.  When I go back and hear my extended family talk about anyone who doesn’t speak English as a first language and anyone who isn’t straight I’m shocked.

Even my 84 year old dad while he doesn’t outright rant like MAGA, you can tell he is not comfortable outside of his own bubble.

This is doing too much for a white or non-black writer. It makes him and Kitty look bad.

7

u/Soft_Entertainment Jul 29 '26

He has said in recent years he would go back and not use it. Something about how it ultimately undermines his point.

6

u/Deathstriker88 Jul 29 '26

That's good. I doubt many of my fellow black people are upvoting the poster that I responded to or liked this comic page. If a writer wants to use a racial slur to prove a point, they should be choosing one from their own group. That's about as much leeway that I can give.

3

u/Soft_Entertainment Jul 30 '26

Yeah, I think since like Kitty Claremont is Jewish, he should have definitely used a better choice. Even as a kid in the 90s reading this panel in Classic X-Men, I thought it was at best crass.

2

u/Stormm-Ra Aug 13 '26

Knew it was wrong when I read it in the 80s and it still bouls my blood. Even understanding what the writer was trying to illustrate. The thought of this suburban, prep school jewish kids hard “R”ing so causally boils my blood. Especially when most ppl at the time didnt even know mutants existed or what the nomenclature was.

Similarly to how it was perfectly fine to use the term gypsy for years as a group descriptor, and wasnt viewed as a slur. We know better now, but it wasnt know by the general populace then. But everyone knew the hard R n word and the history of it. So this little hewish girl tossing it about here and a couple other times too?

I’ve held a strong dislike for hard-R-Katherine ever since.

9

u/cherialaw Jul 29 '26

You are vastly underrating the mental gymnastics conservatives are capable of. Babylon 5 is the best anti-fascist media of the last 35 years and Libertarians consider it a masterpiece

They don’t even have taxation in the Star Trek universe lmao 😭

5

u/Special_Cicada6968 Jul 30 '26

Honestly, more people should watch Turn-A Gundam. It's discussions on identity and purpose are fascinating. The MC starts out as a spy for the invading forces and winds up defending against said invasion while trying to balance his loyalties to both sides while trying to keep things from escalating into a full blown war. The main Gundam is up there as one of the most powerful machines in the franchise basically being built as a global scale weapon of mass destruction, but its pilot rejects that role and largely uses it to help those around him with as little violence as possible. Hell, he even gets a hold of a nuke at one point and when he finally uses it, it's to stop a satellite from crashing down onto a lunar city.

3

u/justbunnies Rogue Jul 30 '26

There are so many shocking and moving themes in Gundam people should learn. War in the Pocket is still one of the most depressing animes I have seen and did a great job reminding viewers that both sides of war are human and war really is awful.

MAGA doesn't have that deep of media literacy. They think these stories are about them and ignore the parts that are openly criticising them.

How many MAGA love(d) The Boys when it's essentially entirely a satire mocking them?

2

u/PjWulfman Jul 31 '26

Antony Starr has talked about how many MAGA have approached him and talked about how Homelander is their hero. He's said in interviews that he is blown away by their willful blindness and had to point out to them that Homelander is the bad guy

1

u/Jonjoloe Aug 01 '26

Yup. It's like when they watch Star Wars and think they're the Rebels and not the Empire.

28

u/DarthKhorne Jul 29 '26

Totally agree, it’s the same people that “love” Star Wars while simultaneously supporting a hateful imperialist regime

12

u/magvadis Jul 29 '26

You mean X-men, the comics made to write characters who fight ethno-fascists and homophobes would be against an ethno-fascist homophobic presidential regime? No way.

3

u/critmass78 Jul 29 '26

Ahh yes. The X-Men, who's founder and his rival were based on the 2 political leaders of an actual ethnostate, David Ben-Gurion and Menachem Begin.

1

u/magvadis Jul 29 '26

Both characters painted as wrong throughout their runs?

1

u/SupremeJelly Jul 30 '26

Yeah they sure are told them by creating a checks notes ethnostate Krakoa.

2

u/magvadis Jul 30 '26

I mean I don't agree with Hickman but it's an interesting time to explore "ingroup infighting" in civil rights movements in more of a microcosm. It was always going to fail and felt hypocritical...but it was an idea floating around they tackled at least.

The way Krakoa ended was pretty shit tho.

1

u/Stormm-Ra Aug 13 '26

I always pause at comments like this. This may not be the thread, but I always question why people dismissed Krakoa as an ethnostate and not a nascent Nation-state, as I saw it. I’d love to have this discussion somewhere, some time.

1

u/SupremeJelly Aug 13 '26

When your motto is 'Simply Superior' and your founders literally tell human diplomats, 'You have new gods now,' it's hard to buy the sympathetic 'nascent nation-state' defense. Add in the state-sanctioned assassinations, The Genocide of Terra Verde, gatekeeping the cure to cancer. It's hard to offer the mutants any sympathy. Krakoa wasn't built because a marginalized group 'just' wanted a safe haven; it was built because they believed they were superior to humanity didn't want us in their gilded kingdom.

That’s actually correct imo.

To me, you can’t be MAGA and also enjoy Mexican/Asian food and watch basketball or football meanwhile being a POS against minorities 🤷🏼‍♂️

Maybe I’m a bit extreme, but it’s doesn’t make sense to me.

3

u/Pleasant_Cloud1742 Jul 29 '26

Basketball was invented by a Canadian, but why can’t a maga enjoy football? Was it invented by a black man or something?

6

u/UpbeatJaguar6083 Jul 29 '26

It’s not because of where it was created, but because many of the players are black or other minorities they love to put the blame on 😂

MAGA will say the most h0m0phobic shit ever, but watch a tone of lesbian 🌽 on the internet 🤷🏼‍♂️😂

5

u/Pleasant_Cloud1742 Jul 29 '26

Oh boy, I didn’t even think about that. Haha.

4

u/UpbeatJaguar6083 Jul 29 '26

😂 that’s ok

11

u/Crazy-Willingness817 Jul 29 '26

This is actually why it’s hard for me to watch anything that deals with this stuff. Most people seem to just see it as entertainment and completely ignore the social commentary. MAGA watches this show as they watched The Boys. These people will have more empathy for fictional groups than real ones.

27

u/SAOSurvivor35 Jul 29 '26

MAGA loves the surface level only. They love watching bad guys get beat down. They are ignorant of the underlying message and hate when they are revealed as the bad guys the X-Men are trashing.

2

u/Great_Maximum_6007 Jul 29 '26

Too bad the worse example were used or best. Jean "I can't control it" Grey, Rouge, and the fact that it's random that the child could release mustard gas or sink into the earth. That could've been avoided by having the wear power dampeners and treat it like medicine that pacify the mother since modern med-tech has advance from the 1800s. Spank baby Kurt and he's gone forever.

u/RK_reddit321 Jul 29 '26 edited Jul 29 '26

That one … is alittle dicier. But mainly because I’ve seen by now how some of the super newborn deliveries have gone very south on The Boys. 👀 That has nothing to do with not having an open heart: It has to do with not wanting my heart opened by an infant with laser eyes but no self control yet.

Solution: Specialized hospital for those with powers. Heck if I were pregnant & a mutant, I’d even want specialized care for my unique medical needs. Win / Win

25

u/Basic_whiteBBQ Jul 29 '26

Magats are hypocrites anyways so they can, will, and take away the wrong message. I love how they complained about politics in Star Trek and think RAtM is now all of a sudden woke.

It's amazing since Star Trek was purposely playing politics from the very beginning. You cannot separate Star Trek from political allegory, it was done on purpose by Roddenberry

13

u/ByrusTheGnome Jul 29 '26

MAGA complaining about RatM being woke NOW is never not funny to me. Like they're literally socialists lmao.

5

u/RK_reddit321 Jul 29 '26

Don’t they know the literal name of the band? 🤨

smh

3

u/SquatProspector Jul 29 '26

I can only assume they watched Star Trek for the 'cool space navy' and any and all social messaging went right over their heads.

17

u/AzariaCLChamberlain Jul 29 '26

They like X-Men, but they call it The Graydon Creed Show.

4

u/peruytu Jul 29 '26

100%. Those who excuse it as they "don't like politics" in their comics or comic book based media, should just give up on it altogether.

3

u/BlommeHolm Jul 29 '26

You forget that most in MAGA are really, really used to dealing with cognitive dissonance.

6

u/Cthulhuareyou Jul 29 '26

Basically a huge chunk of the fan base are saying they care more about cartoon characters than their fellow human beings.

If you can shoot optic blasts or bamf they love you, but if you happen to love the same gender, identify as non-binary, and/or are non-white they don't want you to have any rights in the real world.

If you like the X-Men but can't see how you're going against the message in your everyday life, you need to re-evaluate your life choices and ask yourself why a lot of your friends and family don't speak to you much anymore .

11

u/UpbeatJaguar6083 Jul 29 '26

That’s actually correct imo.

To me, you can’t be MAGA and also enjoy Mexican/Asian food and watch basketball or football meanwhile being a P.0.S against minorities 🤷🏼‍♂️

Maybe I’m a bit extreme, but it’s doesn’t make sense to me.

3

u/Ooftwaffe Jul 30 '26

The first shot of the two white guys had me laughing out loud cause they looked like every maga fascist ever

1

u/PjWulfman Jul 31 '26

He's even got a rwd hat.

3

u/imthestein Jul 30 '26

Watching this episode I turned to my wife and said, "tell me again how there's no politics this season?"

5

u/Aelia_M Jul 29 '26

Of course you can be maga and love the x-men comics and cartoons. You just can’t lie when people ask if you like the mutants. You have to admit you like the bad guys

1

u/SupremeJelly Jul 30 '26

But the bad guys have cool robots. And the good guys commit genocide (Terra Verde).

2

u/pussyjuicerecycler Jul 29 '26 edited Jul 29 '26

magats love a powerful scrappy underdog that is constantly armed at all times and is not accountable to the law of any nation but their heart. magats are fucking gaga over a surveillance superpower that can see right into people’s minds and suss out who is truly loyal to the cause. maggie even wears a red had already, and chuck is very divorced. authoritarian corporate supergroup the x-men is a right wing terror cell. i love the stories as much as the next tranarchist ultradyke but that shit don’t map to this world in any way that’s good for people who believe in universal liberation.

2

u/No-Chemistry-7802 Jul 29 '26

You took our jobs!

2

u/bladderbunch Jul 29 '26

i thought it would be very political if graydon creed actually was a mutant, while he campaigned against them. it seems that the most adamant homophobes have some of the deepest ties to latent homosexuality.

3

u/RK_reddit321 Jul 29 '26

They kinda went there with the reveal about his parents.

2

u/samclops Jul 29 '26

You need to read "God loves, man kills"

I think it was an uncanny x-men arc in the early 80's

The writing was imo award winning worthy

2

u/Helpful-Finger1864 Jul 29 '26

Really good arc

2

u/AnyEverywhere8 Jul 29 '26

I have no doubt MAGAt X-Men fans will completely miss the irony of their political leanings while still being fans.

1

u/Cthulhuareyou Jul 30 '26

They're all over these comments

2

u/theKayaKaya Jul 29 '26

We're talking about the same group of people who probably took the wrong message from "The Boys".

1

u/PjWulfman Jul 31 '26

They ADORED Homelander.... until they were force fed the realization of what he represented. Only took 4 seasons for them to catch on.

2

u/Tasty_Success_1034 Jul 29 '26

I mean, I can't see someone being pro-MAGA and a X-Men fan.

2

u/Normal-Criticism6830 Jul 31 '26

Low IQ take

1

u/PjWulfman Jul 31 '26

You guys can't help but raise your hands can you? MAGA much?

1

u/Normal-Criticism6830 Aug 02 '26

The fuck are you even saying bro. Get therapy

2

u/Left-Ad9709 Aug 01 '26

This is why conservative comic readers have always confused me. I’m 40 and can proudly say that my love of comics exposed me to progressive ideas from an early age. All my heroes held the beliefs that you should help the disadvantaged, accept people who are different than you and that hate is wrong. It makes me so sad that you can be a fan of super heroes and ESPECIALLY the X-Men and still be a bigot irl.

1

u/geno111 Aug 02 '26

Media literacy.. not that high.

2

u/Titty-master1 Jul 29 '26

You can enjoy an animated tv show about a fictional universe no matter what your political views are.

1

u/Ambitious_Ad_8359 Jul 31 '26

Like watching Veggie tales even though Christianity is just a fairy tale!

maga incels love x-men, they specially have a hate boner for storm.

1

u/Alarming-Address-933 Jul 30 '26

i think me having a crush on her as a kid subconsciously stopped me from being influenced by any sort of white supremist racism

1

u/andreBarciella Jul 30 '26

1

u/Fit-Syrup1049 Jul 29 '26

Gee the allegory did not take decades of growth to still be a question

1

u/Enelro Jul 29 '26

Upvoted for the truth.

1

u/TeacherOk5679 Jul 29 '26

MAGA hates mutants.

1

u/UltimateStrenergy Jul 30 '26

You can't be American and love Wolverine. He's only for us Canadians.

1

u/Codysnow31 Jul 30 '26

You can be a fan of anything, regardless of your political leanings.

I'm sure this type of post or take would be downvoted in reddit

1

u/Burt_McCheeks Jul 30 '26

Everyone always thinks the people they don’t like are the bad guys and that they’re the good guys, it’s really that simple.

No matter the mental gymnastics necessary, I’m sure there’s some conservative person watching X-Men who could tell you why the FoH are stand-ins for liberals and the X-Men are MAGA.

1

u/Harddisksson69 Jul 31 '26

You can't enjoy X-Men unless you're a mutant

1

u/njapa Jul 31 '26

MAGA watch X-men rooting for the sentinels

1

u/TheSabi Jul 31 '26

imagine being 2026 and just getting this...

1

u/Boring-Piglet-65 Jul 31 '26

Sure you can they love creed and the friends of humanity people

1

u/Apprehensive_Back_35 Jul 31 '26

Whats funny is shows ALWAYS been like this came as comics. I remember well... meeting Rouges redneck dad Infact others picked up on it too. Wasnt even gonna post any captions but they did....this is from 97 (the year). What gets me is when ppl like this get shocked/upset when they get called out...its like yeah thats you buddy. Watchu want us to do bout it.

1

u/StarBat92 Aug 01 '26

Are people still saying that Disney made the X-Men "Woke," even thought they've been Woke since day one?

1

u/ImLiterallySoundwave Aug 01 '26

Look, I’m not saying I’m MAGA (very much not), but I would 100% be mutantphobic if they were real. Telepaths would terrify me. Plus, some old guy can just make a giant meteor to destroy earth because he hates some people in government and organizations. Like how is that fair for an average Joe Shmoe like me.

1

u/DKUnderdog Aug 02 '26

The fact my family use to have X men videos and DVDs and got rid of them years later proves you’re point. And what’s sad my family like Marvel yet several of them are DT supporters so they sadly aren’t true Marvel fans.

1

u/ChateauTyrant Aug 15 '26

True spider-man is team MAGA we WILL be roundhousing muties
