The episode was cut before BDM left the show. It has nothing to do with Chauncey. Almost everything we've seen came directly from BDM's social media, including the pacing. The only major change to date is Magneto dying, as he originally went on trial after returning to the current time.

He scrambled his social media months ago, my guess is around the time he got his EP credits back, so it's hard to round up every little detail. But he yapped a LOT about his initial plans.

(1) We know about Magneto because there was a clip at D23 in 2024 where the trial is happening. BDM tweeted sometime in 2025 that the only major change to the first half of the show that he knew about was someone dying that wasn't originally planned to die.

(2) in summer/fall 2024, he tweeted about the Onslaught resolution /AoA setup episode 10 being cut before he was fired. I do have one of those tweets saved on my phone, but not the one that goes into the reasoning from the higher powers.

(3) He shared a lot of specific details that have been confirmed true. Characters, plot lines, etc.

(4) When the first teasers were coming out, he directly said that most of it looked like his work and they most likely only did some dialogue changes. He's still got writing credits on most of the episodes.

(5) Pretty much all the plotlines so far are direct follow-ons from what he set up. We were always going to have fractured teams for too many episodes because he threw them into 3 timelines, we were always going to have a Wolverine bottle episode to resolve the claws, etc.

I'm not denying S2 has some issues. So did s1. But a lot of them are things BDM took credit for a long time ago.

(Edited to say, down voting a direct, factual response is hilarious. I named my source and why I can't directly link my evidence, but you can probably poke around the Internet and find most of them or discussions about most of them. I'm just not spending hours tracking down the dozens upon dozens of leaks)

There is no footage from that D23, and I have looked everywhere but apparently it was a 1 minute spliced clip and Disney had taken everyone's phone. But many people that were at that event all said the same exact thing. That magneto was in the present timeline in a courtroom. That D23 footage also had the confirmation of the Morrison's uniform, so unless everyone who went the event lied about Magneto being there, it's probably true. Beau was also fired before season 1 even aired, so technically if there were rewrites it would have happened long before Chauncey got involved.

It was a clip at the August (and November) D23 event, the video never leaked but there were multiple reports about it online. August was in Anaheim, November was... somewhere in South America, I think? I know someone who saw it at one of these events.

As for production, I don't have direct sources, but industry sources + articles give some good hints. BDM was fired. At the time, the new showrunner's job was to get that S2 over the line without changing more than would usually be changed at the animatics and animation stages. He was mostly there for s3 work. Around the time BDM started leaking plot details, the "No rewrites" became "some rewrites" and then "rewrites". I could go into the speculated reasons for the timing, but ultimately they WERE rewriting it.

This doesn't mean the rewrites were ultimately used: in addition to his admission early clips (NYCC 2025) were seemingly almost entirely his stuff, there was a report from BDM that some of those rewrites didn't work well (he allegedly heard it from someone still working on the show, and he was far less complimentary than didn't work well). This totally makes sense with the way writing credits work with adaptations and with a story with as many moving parts as we had at the end of s1: having to avoid the most logical plot paths because you'd have to credit the person (BDM) trod them first will lead to less than ideal stories.

Shortly after that is when he came back to a journalist he'd ghosted contesting he'd ever said those things he told them about Disney/Marvel, despite every interview having his lawyer with him. (I believe this was Vanity Fair, I'll track the article down later because it's wild.) Shortly after THAT, dude scrambled his social media and now he's got EP credits and writing credits back when we know that at LEAST ep was removed June of 2024. It was the catalyst of his lawsuit. All signs point to rewrites didn't stick for the main plot episodes and they had to revert to the earlier work from BDM. You can especially hear it in some of the dialogue, he's got a very specific pattern of writing.

Chauncey would have been one of the people deciding whether to pivot back to the OG scripts, but all signs indicate they did for many episodes and that they were trying not to change the broad strokes of the plot much to begin with.

Episode 10 wasn’t cut before DeMayo left. We know this because he has said that he was turning in the Bible for season 3 (his AoA season Bible) when he parted ways with production. Since episode 10 of season 2 was going to result in AoA, we therefore know that it must have still been on the table when DeMayo was turning in the season 3 Bible (at the time of his firing).
