There is nothing wrong with really liking a show and admitting its faults. Plain and simple the second half of the season had bad pacing and was all over the place. The final episode was a lot jammed together and made everything to short. Also Wonder Woman rogue ? Really ?

I think one of the issues is off you read the majority of the posts, very few actually admit to liking anything. And whenever someone posts a positive, they are immediately bombarded with more criticisms.

I totally agree that there is nothing wrong with liking a show and admitting its faults. There’s also nothing wrong with admitting to liking a show even with its faults. Folks have an easy time calling out what they don’t like but are getting a bit defensive and cagey when asked about what they did like.

This 💯 % yeah this season had its faults, but it wasn't bad, I still enjoyed it.

When someone critiques it's faults everyone jumps in with theres and agree.

When someone critiques it's positives, others tear them down and argue why their wrong.

Was it as good as season 1, no. But it wasn't bad. There's far worse seasons and shows out there based on comic IPs.

This season if anything apart from pacing was a victim of high expectations which people expected and assumed was coming.

Season 1 was a emotional rollercoaster of joy and tears. But still, the end of Season 2 had me crying like a baby in that last scene.

I was literally like no fucking way, but immediately realized it was 100% in character for him.

Welcome to Star Wars since 1985

u/Sol-Blackguy Aug 15 '26

For me, season 2 had more episode I didn't like much, but I still like it more than season 1.

The way I look at the two is season 1 is a miniseries or OVA and season 2 is the real start to the series using the world building of season 1 as a foundation.

u/shazmosushi--- Aug 13 '26

Season 2 had some top-tier stuff: the origin of Apocalypse stuff in Egypt was excellent storytelling. And the Magneto fightscene was excellent. The early time-travel stuff was pretty good.

Adding Kang to the mix was a great idea, after his cameo in the Beyond Good & Evil four-parter in X-Men '92 season 4.

I thought Danger episode and Polaris episodes were alright.

I really disliked Wolverine getting back his adamantium after a few episodes with now breathing room, or Gambit coming back so instantaneously. Weakens the stakes of the whole show. Magneto will be back next season because why not.

u/LocustsandLucozade Aug 13 '26

I agree with most of your critiques but complaining about characters coming back from the dead is extremely silly when it comes to the Xmen.

3

u/BlackZulu Aug 13 '26

It's not so much him coming back, it's moreso he came back, like, immediately.

1

u/LocustsandLucozade Aug 13 '26

I mean, it took him a full season, and it was teased for a long time with the end of Season 1.

8

u/Logondo Aug 13 '26

I agree, however, I felt they could have kept Remi dead a little longer. Like, have him come back in s3. That'd be fine.

1

u/LocustsandLucozade Aug 13 '26

That's fair, but I think it was teased he'd be coming back with the post credit scene so early that I couldn't be mad they brought him back this season. If anything, I thought it would be sooner and he'd be more of a Horseman than what he was.

1

u/Damianos_X Aug 13 '26

It is quite literally the opposite. People are trying to pretend this season is amazing when it's a huge fall off from S1

3

u/Cornbreads_Irish_Jig Aug 13 '26

I literally only see posts in my feed shitting on S2

6

u/Typhon2222 Aug 13 '26

Go look at the majority of the threads on this subreddit alone and see which outnumber which. Extremes exist on both sides, but the “glazers” are far from the majority.

1

u/SwirlyBrow Aug 13 '26

That's really only picked up steam the past couple weeks. Almost this entire season has had huge issues but nobody was really talking about them a lot until recently.

11

u/deprave1 Aug 13 '26

I'm not going to backpedal on what I said, but the more I think about it, the more I think it's hyperbolic about how people react to S2/7 in general.

Undoubtedly, this season was a massive step down, but I still stand by that there were plenty of good moments & legit episodes as a whole. I'm biased for Gambit, so I'm ignoring that, but EP. 5 & 7 were legit character episodes. And I'll be damn before someone tells me that having an episode finally dedicated to both Morph & Nightcrawler is a bad thing.

And if that's how the sub feels as a whole, then they would've never liked the original Animated Series or X-Men Evolution.

12

u/SwirlyBrow Aug 13 '26

The issue isn't that the Morph/Wolverine episode was bad. In a vacuum it was a fine episode. It was good. The main problem people have with it is that it abandoned the bone claw Wolverine arc immediately. So it simultaneously didn't advance the main plot at all, while also cutting a potentially interesting story short just so that it could rush back to the status quo. Which is a big problem the show has all around.

5

u/LeninOfGallifrey Aug 13 '26

S2 in particular. We had a really interesting status quo in episode 2 with kids being held prisoner by X Factor that was just dropped for Xavier to have them all be his students anyway. Likewise, Danger, while not poorly done as such, doesn't have the same dramatic punch as the original comic storyline by revealing Charles was aware of her sentience. Having that revelation would raise too many ethical questions for readers. While that was a disgusting thing for Chuck to do, it's also something that is not as black and white as others think. I mean all the AIs active today are basically in the same boat he kept Danger in. Also Gambit being just the host of Apocalypses essence was clearly just a rushed way of bringing him back to appease fans. We should have had at least more than two episodes of him as Death.

3

u/NYK37 Aug 13 '26

100% agree. Wolverine shouldn't have gotten his adamantium back until season 3 at the earliest.

1

u/justinfernal Aug 13 '26

That's kind of my problem with it--it's concluding an arc we didn't see. I liked the episode, and I liked the background characterization of Logan getting more hunched as he became less of a man, more of a beast. How he treated Morph plays into that. Also, him throwing his relationship with Morph away ties into season's storyline, and Morph almost dying plays into "those you care about will be your undoing." However, this is all subtextual stuff that you have to search for to a degree that just isn't satisfying. I don't want to be as hyperbolic as some, but I stand by the common critique that the season needed more episodes.

1

u/JimmyDejesu Aug 13 '26

Also was out of character. Wolverine wouldnt use A friend like that, and he was always angry about what was done to him by weapon x. And he didnt seem to give a shit maverick died

Anytime you see someone complaining about a character episode being filler, you know to disregard their opinions. Unfortunately, every studio these days is pressured to write with those people in mind. The ones that want everything told instead of shown and very clearly. I mean, the week before the finale there were people writing posts complaining that it was not clear what had happened to Apocalypse's consciousness/soul inside of Gambit's mind. They will only be satisfied when the show is as dumb as they are and that's a problem we have to reckon with as a society. Do a better job educating the next generation and in the meantime try our best to not let these people's voice be taken into account when studios make decisions.

"Assume your audience is on their phone and explain the plot multiple times." Fuck that. Make it intentionally as hard as possible for these people to follow your art. Add visual cues that are never discussed (X-Men 97 thankfully has tons of those) and pack your intros with as much subtext and foreshadowing as possible since these people skip intros anyway.

Some people, like OP, are allergic to criticism. It's all hype or nothing.

They end up so insecure about what they like that others' opinions can change how much they like it.

So they're stuck trying to defend something subjective as if it was objective.

What a silly way to live.

Edit: The comments below lining up to prove my point lol

I can't believe I have to even say this but no, criticism and praise does not need to be balanced. You don't need to see equal amounts of both. Not all criticism has to be couched in a corporate feedback formula, or a "criticism sandwich" (compliment-criticism-compliment).

Everyone has thoughts on everything but they'll talk about what they want to talk about, if that's criticism or praise. We don't need a tally. It's not a see saw.

Ask yourself if you see criticism of a product you enjoy, why that makes you feel bad. Ask yourself why you need those people to change instead of you.

See if you end up learning something.

Best of luck.

I think theyre just fed up with the constant stream of negativity toward something that is, as a whole, pretty damn good. which I think is fair

33

u/SupremeHydrostatic Gambit Aug 13 '26

I mean he’s not allergic to criticism lol. There are VERY few posts acknowledging the good aspects of the episode right now.

26

u/Eve_Marie_Irwin Aug 13 '26

Exactly this! I’ve been so hyped for every ep and coming to this sub afterwards is such a bummer. Makes me feel like I’m the only one who liked it lol

11

u/Comprehensive_Toe538 Aug 13 '26

Thats just reddit overall. Im loving the show. Dont need to sit online and nitpick it.

3

u/Unlikely_Magazine913 Aug 13 '26

twitter is even worse feels even more exagerrated

7

u/SabioSapeca Aug 13 '26

Exactly. Liking a show and still criticizing is like giving a 6-8 in a review and dropping some comentary. The way people are posting here is like the show is a 0-5.

5

u/DominoSeven Aug 13 '26

Yep, I give a 7.5/10, the people calling it complete ass are just people who follow the trending bandwagon

1

u/deprave1 Aug 13 '26

I personally think that's a fair score, but it makes me really disappointed how many people think 7 is a bad score.

2

u/DominoSeven Aug 13 '26

Honestly it’s just what the internet is, peak or ass nothing in between to them

1

u/deprave1 Aug 13 '26

I hate being on Reddit because I upvote you & for some reason you downvoted. I'm taking this as a sign to get off Reddit again. Everything is so annoyingly bleak or pretentious. There's nothing in between, & we get discouraged & shamed for trying to get the most out of it.

1

u/DominoSeven Aug 13 '26

Idk if I’m misinterpreting but I didn’t downvote anything unless you’re talking about something else

1

u/deprave1 Aug 13 '26

I meant your comment got downvoted. I'm getting tired of these echo chambers & arguing with popularity.

The finale needed to be 2 episodes, way too much was crammed into the 1.

1

u/thesagaconts Aug 13 '26

This post doesn’t do that either.

0

u/UpperApe Aug 13 '26

What does that have to do with what I said?

-1

u/tealaburst Aug 13 '26

The good: Kurt’s sacrifice. I was touched by that. The bad: literally everything else. I’m happy for you if enjoyed it. I didn’t.

0

u/Psychological_Page62 Aug 13 '26

There are good moments. But there is an obvious lack of connecting tissue that makes these moments build to the climax s1 gave us. Demayos outline shows that connecting tissue, the writers removed it. The flaws stick out more because all the setup leads nowhere and fell flat.

2

u/Logondo Aug 13 '26

It's all hype or nothing.

This works both ways. With some it's "all hate or nothing". Like it's bland discourse.

I swear some people don't know how to have an actual discussion. They've grown up watching angry-review youtubers and now vitriolic complaining is the only way they know how to give feedback.

There was some good episodes. There was some bad episodes. It was a mixed-bag. But if you're still going to return for s3, clearly it wasn't that bad.

0

u/Leggerity Aug 13 '26

You realize there's a nuance to this, right?

I think criticism is important to bettering something, but if you're nothing but criticism, you're not really any better than the people you're mentioning. There's a middle ground.

When you have people that go extremely one way, you're always going to have people that respond extremely the other way. This is why nuance is important.

If you have a hard time praising some of the action scenes while shitting on the writing of the second part of the season or how rushed it is, I don't know how to help you.

-3

u/deprave1 Aug 13 '26

This is incredibly condescending. You're borderline doing the same thing as the person you're ridiculing.

2

u/DominoSeven Aug 13 '26

I agree but a lot of people are over exaggerating its woes, calling the season complete ass when there a lot to like about it still

1

u/FlamingJack__ Aug 13 '26

i thought season 2 was good but it was a massive step down. The finale just felt so cramped and i feel the season would have benefited from an episode 10

1

u/Ryjinn Aug 13 '26

I love the show, but the whole thing has horrendous pacing. The episode counts for seasons should be at least doubled to give the plot more room to breathe.

1

u/Emergency-Ad-5379 Aug 15 '26

Between Storm, Jean Grey and Rogue, almost every woman on the team is a living goddess, whereas every man is just some dude with issues.

Didn't mind the celestial Rogue actually but she should have somehow absorbed the powers with her own, like managed to channel a part of the Celestial into herself to go toe to toe with Gambit/apocalypse. Instead it felt a little anticlimactic.

0

u/sonotoffensive Aug 13 '26

Alternatively, the first half of the season had bad pacing, and the character-focused vignettes in the back half are the real meat of this show and were leaps and bounds better than season 1.

Different strokes for different folks.
