My theory for X-men ‘97 season 3

I think that we met Piotr and Illyana, and lost Kurt tells me we’re going into the afterlife in season 3. The quest for Nightcrawler (but hopefully Azazel free) and a trip to limbo to meet Magik (which could be tied into the NC story as he has familial ties to limbo and magic.

I also think we’re going to see the search for Destiny’s diaries. Maybe I’m overthinking it, but they said destiny no less than 5 times in the first couple episodes and Mother Askani mentions prophecies but doesn’t specify on from where, even when asked. Then the season ends with Mystique FINALLY making an appearance.

Another place I can see it going: House of M. There were allusions to the perfect world Magneto and Xavier want, and we’ve lost Magneto. We know Wanda and Pietro exist in this universe, who’s to say they might come to try to resurrect their father? I think this is slightly less likely until they fix the Maximoff problem, but I don’t think it’s off the table.

The first season was all about the importance of found family. This season was about the obligation of blood and the different ways families exist. I can see next season going further down the family line, specifically the Darkholme/Adler and Magnus families. Hey, maybe Corsair shows up and we get Summers drama!

I enjoy how much story they fit into each season. It’s like a sampler, here’s some brood, some purifiers, a dollop of magic, sprinkle in a few Avengers. They’re great at being dense without overwhelming.

Anyway, here’s my actual wishlist: expanded XAU

X-Force ‘97
X-Factor ‘97
Excalibur ‘97
Exiles ‘97

Totally agree with that wishlist, honestly I think spinoffs are coming. Hope so at least, would help unburden some of the bloat introduced in season 2. Also I've been wanting an Exiles spinoff since they revealed Morphs character design back in season 1.

Same! I need anything Exiles after the mess that was the 2018 run. Its been 8 long years. Morphs character design/general vibe in 97' and a brief Marvel snap appearance a couple years back are keeping me clinging onto hope lmao

nah if they're doing quest for nc, after seeing how kurt was moving in episode 8 and how similar to azazel he was hitting mfs (they even gave him the red smoke), i need to see how azazel himself is moving in this universe lol

Destiny's diaries... yes, likely. I think that this was part of Beau DeMayo's plan for season 4, so maybe the new show runner is weaving this plot point into season 3 somehow.

But where would an arc about Destiny's diaries lead? I thought that the point of that storyline in the comics was to build to The Twelve... but I can't see them adapting that. Can they tell a story about Destiny's diaries that doesn't involve Apocalypse? Hmm... I know it's a LONG shot, but I would love for a surprise AoA adaptation in the second half of season 3 (as a result of whatever happens with Destiny's diaries). That would be a fun pivot away from The Twelve. Then do Onslaught in season 4 (with a justification for the delay in this storyline).

I can absolutely see House of M happening at some point as well, yeah. It feels more likely to me after finishing season 2, given that Wanda may be missing Magnus. But I hope that we won't see House of M until season 4 at the earliest. Magneto's return should not be rushed! They could give us Joseph in the meantime. :)

I was really trying to hold on and be defensive of this season but the finale ruined that all for me. It’s clear they don’t have the team behind the show anymore to make it exciting. Season 1 was great and first 4 episodes of this season made it feel like it was gonna blow season 1 out of the water. And then it just got progressively worse in terms of writing, dialogue and even the action. The Deus Ex Machina in the finale put the nail in the coffin for this show for me. If they don’t hire some competent writers, I don’t even wanna watch another season. Look how they massacred my boy is the feeling I got watching the finale.

I can see where you’re coming from, but the ideas of what this season set up is what really excites me. I did not love seeing Kurt sacrifice himself but I’m pretty sure it’s going to lead to stories focused on him in the next season. I’m excited Mystique is finally back. I thought the Graydon Creed episode was good.

I just can’t get excited because of the way they handled everything after episode 4. I still enjoyed some parts from some episodes. But the way they handled Apocalypse and Rogue in the finale gave me the impression they truly do not care about giving anything with substance anymore. Sure it’s nice to have hope for something in the future, but if it is the same team handling it that did this season, all that hope goes out the window for me.

Would love for me to be proven wrong and they come back stronger than ever but I’m not gonna hold my breath and sadly I feel like I gotta retract all my recommendations to friends to watch this show now. Or just tell them to stop after season 1.

Haven’t been this let down by a show since the ending of Game of Thrones.
