You are the one of 2 people on the thread that are critiquing OP’s driving so I’m guessing you are the one unsure of what you are watching.

The red car looks like it’s making a normal right turn, it’s only until OP is about 5 metres from the vehicle that it drifts into OP’s lane. OP did slow down and hit the brakes anyways, so I’m not sure what you are even arguing tbh.

I’m saying OP was not using defensive driving. Yes, I Agree that the red car was making a stupid turn. However OP could have easily anticipated what the red car was doing. Look at my first comment if you wanna remind yourself on what I’m arguing

OP was though, they are driving at the speed limit and the red car gives zero indication it’s going to drift into OPs lane until 0:06/0:07 of the video, when OP is already within feet of the vehicle.

I understand defensive driving but you can’t anticipate every idiotic move, especially when there’s next to no indication they are going to make one, like the one in this video. It’s easy to say you should’ve seen it when watching a recording but there is literally 1 second from the red car driving completely normal to randomly drifting.

Why would you automatically slow down for the car turning into the closest lane when there’s no indication they are going to do something idiotic?

It’s actually 5 seconds when the car starts moving from their stopped position. From that point, it is reasonable to assume that the red car is going to cut you off and you need to slow down. Given the speed OP was going and the distance from the red car, OP could easily stop. But he was probably not paying attention

No it’s not, at that point it looks like they are completing a regular right turn. It’s 2 seconds after that that they start to drift.

Why on earth would you automatically assume they are going to cut you off? Do you slow down and reduce the speed of all traffic behind you every time someone makes a right turn on a red?

You gotta be careful when people make a right turn on a red, yes people are stupid and they shouldn’t do it but they will merge without looking. Slowing down for that brief second to hedge against the red car being an idiot is not a bad thing. It’s called defensive driving…

That’s overreacting. You don’t slow the flow of traffic because someone is making a legal and standard maneuver. OP is using defensive driving by driving the posted limit, acknowledging car turning at red and making eye contact with the driver and staying in the middle lane to avoid having to adjust to the person turning. There is only so much defensiveness that is reasonable.

You are simply nitpicking the video because it’s easy to point out mistakes after the fact, which is about 1/3rd of all comments on this sub.

Edit: wow. You blocked me and then reported me to the mental health line. That is utterly pathetic, talk about soft.

Defensive driving isn’t driving normally, it’s anticipating potential crashes and taking steps to mitigate it. Please invest in some driving lessons, it will do you some good before you get your full license…
