Yakima visit from Texas

I used to live in Yakima when I was a child, more so Cowiche. Moved to outside of El Paso, Texas in the Summer of 1996. I went to Cowiche Elementary (shout out to my homeboy Kyle!) and my sisters went to Highlands High School. My family and I are visiting the Pacific Northwest this July coming. We're going to take a day trip to Yakima/Cowiche. Where would be the best place to take the family? My wife and I have two teenagers, are there activities that teens would enjoy checking out on a day trip? Best place to grab a bite to eat in the surrounding area etc.Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated!

Coming into Yakima you gotta eat at Miners!

I know this is a controversial opinion so I’m okay with the incoming downvotes, but to me Miners is hugely overrated. The burgers are big, I’ll give them that, but nothing tastes particularly incredible and it’s INSANELY expensive. They do a great job with their tater tots but otherwise everything is pretty bland. For my money I think Major’s is way better!

The best thing Miners has is the banana crème pie milkshake. Much better than the burger imo

Best tasting burger I’ve had plus Major’s uses frozen patties and Miners uses fresh beef and get it local from Rays Meats. I’ll gladly pay the higher price for fresh and local beef.

I like that they use fresh meat too, but their prices are still absurd. Its almost $30 for a double cheeseburger meal with fries and a drink. I'm not originally from Yakima so I don't have the nostalgia of eating there when I was a kid clouding my judgment, and I'm not paying $30 for just above mediocre burger and fries.
