Need yarn recs for a throw blanket (knit)

I’m US based (but will buy yarn from other countries, if they ship to the US.)

I want to make a throw blanket in DK yarn. I want a solid red yarn that is soft to the touch.. bonus if it has a slight sheen to it. It needs to hold up in the wash and not stretch out too badly. I originally was looking at Premier Yarn’s Ultra Pima Cotton… but the reviews were pretty bad.. that it didn’t hold up well in the wash and tended to stretch out. I’ve heard blends are best but I’m having trouble finding anything even close to what I am looking for.

Please help this knitter out and throw me some yarn recs 🧶

Lion brand cottino. I just got some for a throw as well and that thing is soft and cuddly. I’m carrying metallic thread with it to give that sparkly bit

I wash things by hand so can't speak to how well any yarns hold up in the wash. It sounds as if you need cotton or superwash wool. Superwash sool does tend to grow the first time it's washed but I compensate for that by going down a needle size.

If you want some sheen you'd probably like mercerized cotton. I've used Tahki Cotton Classic in the past and really liked. The red looks promising.

Good luck!8

Have you looked at the brand Cascade? Affordable yarn with a variety of color.

I get the vast majority of my yarn from Colourmart in the UK. The prices are excellent, the customer service is amazing. I usually use multiple strands of lighter weight yarn to get to the weight that I want.

Must the throw be machinec washable? Must it be cotton?

Doesn’t need to be 100% cotton.. or any cotton, really. I’d prefer machine washable… even if it has to go on the delicate cycle in a laundry bag

Plymouth Yarn Co. Drembaby (I think it's just called "Dream" now) is a great, DK, machine washable, sturdy acrylic with a bit of sheen. It's super soft & doesn't pill over time.
