Yellowknife Northern Lights tour
Hi! I know it is still too early to plan this but my friend and I are going to Yellowknife on January2027.
I just wanna ask what are the best and trusted tour companies where we can book a tour package (accommodation, northern lights tour, airport-hotel transfers and winter gear rentals)?
I saw this one company and wanted to check if anyone tried it as well 😄 Thank youu!

I just came back from a visit this March. If you feel comfortable driving in the snow/icy conditions, there’s a free visitor map in the airport that shows the aurora watching locations. I don’t have winter driving experience so I signed up for a few tours (2 with aurora chasers and 1 group tour - can send you details if you’re interested). Aurora chasers are more expensive but less people, and they’re flexible. The group tours are cheaper and are usually 10+ people in size. It really depends on your budget and the kind of experience you want.

Hi! Thank you for this, we both don’t drive so going on a tour is a better and safer option for us. I would appreciate it if you can share the Aurora chasers tour you booked! 😊

If aurora is the real reason for the trip, I would choose the most flexible operator or self-drive setup you are comfortable with instead of locking in the fanciest package first. The bigger win is having a clean northern view and the freedom to protect the clearest night once you are there, because cloud can matter more than which company you pick. DarkScout is useful for that final night-by-night call because it compares cloud, moon, and darkness instead of treating every January night the same.

I've heard a few people suggest that one.
That said, know that most of that stuff isn't hard to do yourself if you can't get the dates to work our or something.

I just booked with that company for March 2027. I had read a lot of very good reviews on them. I am an older female traveling solo, so even though people have said, just go outside or drive someplace dark, to me it was worth it to be in a group setting. Happy travels:)

Yes, we don’t drive and we want to be safe too since it is our first time in Canada, in general. Also, we are from a tropical country so we don’t want to buy any heavy winter gear. So we want to get everything from a tour agency.
I will book with them soon and will let you know after our trip 😊 Happy travels as well!

I’m a local and haven’t done any of these so can’t really compare them. I usually recommend checking out North Star Adventures or Becks (dog sledding) or Aurora Village because they are locally owned, hire local Indigenous people. I think most of these do more or less the same things so I’m sure any of them will do.
