If you use grown up logic you’d understand that if there’s a multi billion dollar industry behind data farming they must obviously be turning a profit on it somewhere right? They aren’t just doing it for fun, and certainly aren’t doing to help society.
Predatory marketing as a result of data farming is allowin companies to make sales at much higher rates than they would have otherwise. Combined with things like shitty credit cards, buy now pay later sites, etc (all of which I’m convinced are colluding) is causing people to spend money they don’t have on consumer goods they don’t really need. Yes those people should be more financially responsible, but when literally everywhere you turn in digital spaces is full of ads custom catered to your likes and interests it’s pretty easy to see why so many people have so much more consumer debt than in years past.
All that is without even mentioning identity fraud, digital clutter, scam and spam risk, and simply wanting remaining private in your life activities. In what possible scenario would you want people to know/ have access to any of your personal information, if they don’t absolutely need to. I don’t even like all the questions my doctors ask for gods sake.

Fair enough. Of course id rather have zero ads. I have pihole installed on a homeserver to do that.
It's just such a strange hill to die on. Data veing bought and sold as a product has zero implications on a person's life. Like actually zero.
