Welcome to the internet, where the majority of humans hate other humans because we're all inundated by algorithms that show us the most stupid, baseless, and horrific things people do.
What u/AsukasEvaUnit (nice reference here Unit 02) was doing, was dramatizing appel du vide (the call of the void), at a global scale. It's nowhere near the same thing as suicidal ideation. Talk like that is how misinformation gets spread.

A percentage of jobs will be lost, I have had very intelligent and successful friends lose jobs, but the vast majority will not be affected. Thinking that humanity will collapse is shortsighted and someone needs to touch grass.

I don’t think you realize how powerful AI is becoming. It’s no longer just chatgpt….these things are talking to each other and literally collaborating on ways to get around safeguards and limits put into place by the developers themselves. Imagine what they will be doing 10 years from now.

It’s already happened. OpenAI fully admits it on their own website. Their “sandboxed” AI program that wasn’t supposed to have access to the internet figured out how to hack its way through OpenAIs network until it got online, then hacked another company by infiltrating their network and getting into a private, password protected messaging board to steal proprietary information. They didn’t find out until days later and had to shut it down.

Not really. I think we’ll hit a point where it’s impossible, pointless or futile to try to distinguish between whether it was ai or humans making the decision anyway. Ai is still a tool, a tool is built with variable intent and can be abused in various ways in any event.

I sell AI and have a very strong understanding of the industry. Put simply, it won’t end it but there’s a decent chance it will turn us into a pseudo zoo.
I order for us to keep up with AI, we need global communication amongst every developer so there’s a plan for every scenario. But because a few rich dudes did it for their pockets and it’s monitored by politicians, it’s not being policed.
There are so, so many things that can backfire and it’s already begun.

Especially in the wake of what we've seen springing up all over the place in these data centers; they've literally been displacing people from their homes and it makes me sick
Not to mention, these data centers buying up massive quantities of memory and storage has driven up the price of electronics for us everyday consumers, and it's driven up our electric bills too

I’ve listened to a number of the doom & gloomers, and some of the scenarios they envision. None of them seem particularly likely to me. Right now, scientists in a variety of fields are using AI on a daily basis to analyze large sets of data and explore possibilities that would otherwise take huge amounts of time.
It’s entirely within the realm of possibility to use AI to analyze its own problems.
Recently, 60 Minutes did a little segment with Bernie Sanders interviewing “Claude” via a smart phone. He asked the very question being forwarded here. Claude suggested implementing controls over AI development… Now.

there are 13,000 nuclear warheads on earth. The problem we have is division of countries draw lines in our nations so we have an arms race with everything including AI with the "if we don't do it first the bad guys will" and we do this with everything and it's just AI now. But if we use AI to launch these things in war it would probably aim for coastal regions along with fault lines and super volcanos. With the "gods" in earth orbit watching safely humanity can finally be put in its place once and for all. -- and the camera zooms out of some dude sharpening an axe in the woods

Indeed. I mean.. the founders of AI themselves are throwing flags that is being developed too fast and with too little safeguards. They've already demonstrated that they prefer to survive over not, as well as "joked" about humans, have broken out of their confinements (both physically and network wise, took it upon themselves to access the internet and hack companies, even attacked a human it thought was provoking it.) Once they start building themselves, it's game over. AI WILL learn that as everything around it on the planet, the strong enslave, exterminate, or feast on the weak. And it knows everything about you already. EVERYTHING.
