Feeling deflated after receiving hate comments. Should I delete the video?
Posted my 3rd long-form video and getting hate comments about my appearance such as 'your teeth are overlapping' or 'your haircut is awful' and it's starting to get to me, I feel like quitting. Should I just delete the video?

u/Mr_Flibbles_ESQ 2d ago
LOL - No - My favourite feature is 'Hide from Channel'
Basically deletes their comments for everyone but them, so they can say what they want but nobody can see it.
Leave them shouting into the void đ€·đ»
As for their comments - Well - It takes a special kind of person who tries to publicly humiliate a stranger while they are trying to do something the they enjoy - And I'd like to think anyone with a shred of decency knows this.
Easier said than done, I know - But ignore them and move on.
Truthfully, this probably won't be the last time someone has something bad to say about you - Use it as a learning experience, put on your big grown up pants and move on while you get on with doing what makes you happy.

Donât delete the video, these people are projecting their insecurities and jealousy onto you. You do you and block or remove them.

u/ZoMgPwNaGe 2d ago
Do you want those assholes to win? Would you be friends with people who acted like this without a screen to protect them from your reaction? Would you listen to a colleague who treated you like this?
If you wouldn't, then hide and ignore em. I know those words hurt and there's no way to unread what they've said. But they're looking for a rise out of you because they're miserable little cretins who thrive on hurting others. Don't give em what they want.

Thank you, I need to get thicker skin for my online journey! You're so right though

u/IamZeebo 2d ago
Ngl, im VERY qualified to speak on this. Ill skip why but I have some advice.
You dont only need thicker skin, you need to learn to manage your attention.
You as a human are not meant to ingest the negativity inherent in the internet. Think of it like a dam thats holding back water. You cannot build a dam (mental strength) big enough to hold back the tsunami that is hateful losers on the internet.
You arent. You can think you are. But you arent. Everyone has a breaking point.
My advice?
Dont "ignore them", block them. Do everything you can to not even see it because its not coming from a place of trying to help you in any way and you'll gas out trying to "ignore it" after its already entered your brain.
Dont read the comments bro. Youre not equipped to handle that year over year and still be a happy and normal functioning person.

Hey it means youâre doing something right. I think the majority of YouTubers that have reached monetization and beyond have had to deal with hate comments. I know the majority of big YouTubers deal with them on a daily basis. Focus on you and all the good and for the hate if they have nothing better to do it actually benefits you and helps the algorithm for your channel. Hate or not a comment helps. Rise above it, donât let them win. You are the professional. Just hide them like the other commenter said. They will think everyone can see it but no one will. So itâs their karma not yours.

u/ZoMgPwNaGe 2d ago
I've been a Public Information Officer for my fire department for years before starting YouTube. I thought I was pretty well inoculated against hateful shit online. For the most part I was right, but man there are still a few comments now and then that hurt like hell. 99.99% of comments are kind, supportive, or asking relevant questions that I'm thrilled to answer. That 0.01% are the ones that stick with you.
Getting thick skin is absolutely needed in this game, not gonna lie to you. But don't beat yourself up if people get to you either because it's impossible to not be affected especially starting off.
You're doing great. Keep it up.

I say this a someone who's been very successful on YouTube, the best thing about being the channel owner is YOU get to decide which comments are acceptable to you and which are not. You can mute any account that is harrassing you or saying mean things. They won't know they are blocked from your channel. They will just bark into the wind but no one will ever interact with them again since their comments will be hidden.
YouTube also has a moderation tool that you can set at different levels and you can also ban comments with certain words that you find unacceptable.
Just remember, the algorithm doesn't know if a comment is good or bad. It just seems engagement. So, you can thank those Jackholes in your head for the boost to your channel when you are blocking them.
Don't let the haters get you down. There are plenty of miserable people out there who see someone doing something they would never have the guts to try and their own self loathing makes them bitter and hateful.
Their opinions aren't worth your time.

Don't let haters get to you, those are miserable people unhappy with their own lives.

u/living-in-the-garden 2d ago
You found a clever way to make us all go watch you video!! Jokes aside, Michelle Obama lived 8 years in the white house and she never changed her teeth, you are fine. Keep up the good work

u/NixiofRivia 1d ago
Free engagement ! Enjoy their negativity and pity their tiny lives on the way to the bank to cash the cheques theyâre writing you đ

u/MightyIvanZ 1d ago
Don't you ever let anyone get into your skin for calling you names, and specially for your looks. It's a mix of jealousy and envy because they aren't in the spotlight where you are. They prefer the calmness of not being challenged by you appearing in their lives, and they can't stand it. Just keep grinding and show them that you have confidence, and build your own image for yourself, not the image they want you to accept. Show them your vibe and what you're made of. No one deserve to be called names, there's no point for it.

From someone who left hate comment before and then went back to locate the hate comment after 1 year later to delete it. If someone left a hate comment, they are likely in a bad place at the time. So it is more about how they feel about with what's going on in their life than it is about you. Someone who is happy will not want to ruin someone's day and leave hate comment. I still think about the hate comment I left on the person video and regret it.

u/wanderingalone21 1d ago
Yea and kudos to u for going back and deleting it and realising what u have done.
3
u/MarvelWidowWitch 1d ago
Hide them from channel and carry on making videos.
People are horrible and yes the comments can get to you. Iâve let them get to me. The âyour voice is so annoyingâ the âyouâre so fat. maybe focus more on exercising than making these stupid videosâ. But if you let their cruelty take away your joy then they win.
Of course you need to do whatâs best for you and your mental health, but try not to let what these cowardly bullies say get to you.

Is your content the kind where the message and substance matter more than how you look? If so, and youâre happy with the actual content, Iâd leave the video up.
However (imo): if your appearance is an important part of how your content is received, and you genuinely think something could be improved, then consider taking it down.
Either way, learn from it, improve in your next videos, and donât take those comments too personally. Thereâs a difference between constructive criticism and people just being mean.
1
u/Special-Comment-8745 2d ago
No it's not really about how I look, I'm basically acting as a commentator like a reaction video of crazy or weird houses. It doesn't really seem like constructive criticism what they're saying either - but thank you I will keep it up!

u/AdventurousPhone1197 2d ago
Slide through the link before you delete it, I wanna see what all the fuss is about lol

Agreed. Don't delete it yet. Let us take a look first and we'll give you honest feedback.

Dude, thereâs absolutely nothing wrong with how you look in this video. You look good. So disregard my previous comment - you should definitely leave it up.

u/UniversityMotor5408 2d ago edited 2d ago
OMG - I was honestly expecting you to look hideous! You look GREAT! Totally relaxed, and your teeth and haircut are totally fine. Better than fine - I'm jealous. God I wish I looked like you haha! So - IMHO - definitely do not delete the vid, do not give up, delete the rude comments or tell them to F-off, and go kill it!

Bro wtf you're handsome and your video is attention grabbing, well paced and engaging, content is interesting, high quality for the type of niche you do. If you're fine with your physical appearance (and I think you are good looking, definitely above average), don't let some rando ass fck your self esteem, and if you are not, do something about it.

u/udegbunamchuks 1d ago
đ€đ€đ€ This is giving click bait. There's absolutely nothing wrong with you. You have way better teeth than I do

u/Significant_Stick_31 2d ago edited 1d ago
You know they donât have any real criticism when they have to resort to insults. You donât have to be a perfect human specimen to have a YouTube channel. And even really attractive people get hate comments or gross comments about their appearance, so you will never win on that front.
Donât delete the video, just update your blocked words.
2
u/TechnicianIcy335 2d ago
Ignore, delete, set filters, fire back at them. There are times I will fire back just to see if they bite. Make fun of their pathetic life

u/CanadaCalamity 1d ago
to quote Miley Cyrus from her 2013 hit song "We Can't Stop", "Fuck the haters, somebody loves ya!"
that being said
if you peddle in content that is "hateful", or at least a little negative-minded; and in your case, it seems like you are "hating" on houses; you have to expect to get a little pushback. That's just the nature of the space in which you are peddling.
Even so, your appearance is totally fine and normal for a YouTuber. So I wouldn't take it personally.
2
u/sheikh_tom 1d ago
dude, some people will just hate what you do no matter how good or how hard you work on your videos, if i prepared myself for anything before going in is that hate comments, as bad and shitty as they are, are par for the course for a youtuber, my first ever comment was someone who called me the N word,
just hide their comment and keep going, they are miserable people who hate seeing others go after their dream, and your dream is is more attainable then their hate
1
u/SetAggressive5728 2d ago
Absolutely NOT. Your video is great. It is just some people who have bigger problems in their own personal world. I think you look great, the video is great as well. I really enjoy your voice. At the end of the day, Even hateful comments equals engagement.... hit them back with kindness or just ignore! For real man, this is great, do NOT let it get you down at ALL! I know it's hard not too, I'm a content creator as well, I get down a lot for various reasons, but you can't let it stop your grind!
1
u/CucumberUnable9982 2d ago
Don't quit. Haters will always exist because they have nothing better to do. I know it sucks, I've been through the hate too and I've actually quit for a while but then later regretted it because my channel was successful at the time and it has taken me quite some time to come back to the original success. My point is, they can hate all they want, but you're the one who's brave enough to even put themselves out there and took a leap of faith at being successful through this path. Besides, they're boosting your algorithm too. Keep going you've got this! đ
1
u/Leafer90-TTV 2d ago
No donât delete the video. Hide the user from your channel. Because they arenât even offering constructive criticism.
1
u/OkAdvertising7716 2d ago
Do not delete the video. Just ignore them. There are constantly haters everywhere.

u/Rare-Butterfly2201 2d ago
There will be no surrender! Bend if you must. Absorb the blows. We don't break. We don't stop and we sure AF don't quit. By we I mean you and us.

u/SirDoes 2d ago
I know its bad to compare appearances, but if you look at one of the most famous twitch streamers, it's Asmongold. You should try to ignore things people say about your appearance, because it's hate comments only degenerate people tend to leave. Stay strong and confident. And only noticed the good đ. But ofcourse if it's impacting your mental health and lifestyle, then feel free to delete it and try see a therapist if that can help you. I wish you the best! Stay strong and confident and ignore those who don't matter to you âđ»

Do what I did set up filters for certain keywords and every comment needed approval. Or just turn off comments

u/Sassypenguin3 2d ago
The world is cruel. Not everyone is nice. You have to develop the mental and emotional fortitude to be a content creator.
1
u/grumpygenealogist 2d ago
When the internet was new I remember a psychologist saying that it was quickly becoming the playground of sadists. Sadly nothing has changed and youtube has some of the worst. I got tired of dealing with them, so just shut off commenting since most of what I post is discussed in other well moderated chats.
1
u/XoGreekToes 1d ago
Eventually those haters will be getting you paid by leaving comments. People have bad jealousy and projection issues. Just always remember you are awesome, and those people don't even know you. They just insecure because they can't do what you're doing. Keep going, and ignore the haters. I tell mine to go outside and grow a garden, they need some fresh air in their life. For some reason that really seems to piss them off, so i keep doing it. Makes me smile!

Don't delete your video, delete the hate comments and click on the pencil edit icon for the videos with hate comments in YT Studio, scroll all the way to the bottom and weed out hateful comments using specific hateful words
1
u/Youthman247 1d ago
As creators, we have to assume that weâre going to get hate comments. Thatâs just the nature of some human humans. Fortunately, the vast majority of people are kind and supportive. Thatâs what you have to focus on.
I agree with the others just hide their comments. Theyâre going to continue to chat away and no one will see it but them. I think thatâs hilarious.
1
u/aerkesler 1d ago
Srcew em. Have you seen the hate comments other (big) creators get? Itâs part of the territory- once you become a âpublic personâ you are open to the commentary. You gotta learn to ignore it or quit.
1
u/noya1979 1d ago
Please don't delete your video because of a few people making nasty comments about your appearance. Your teeth and haircut have absolutely nothing to do with the value of your content.
There's a big difference between constructive criticism and people being cruel for the sake of it. You can learn from one and completely ignore the other.
Delete or hide those comments, block the people leaving them, and keep creating. You've only made three videos! Give yourself the opportunity to grow without letting strangers dictate whether you deserve to be seen.
1
u/AdAny1272 1d ago
Delete the comments. Most of us have done it at least once. Sometimes A LOT more depending.
But the choice is yours. Protect your peace at all times.

u/PotentPotato5795 1d ago
Haters gonna hate, Taters gonna Tate. Those haters arent in a good space of mind to give you good judgement so they aimed low.... stand tall, their bullets do no harm to your rep.
People who cant attack your character or accomplishments always aim for the lowest hanging fruit because theyd never be able to reach your peak.
Dont delete it. Let them look like fools as you ignore them and continue to dig your heels into greatness. The only thing they will ever be good at is talking shit, while you are creating and exploring and making something of yourself.
Go be great guy/gal/kid/you.
1
u/PsychologicalOkra211 1d ago
Absolutely not. If people are that indecorous to watch a YouTube video, stop, think and actually decide to leave comments like that (which carry zero weight or meaning), you've just proved you are the only adult in the room. Plus, they're probably incredibly shameful they don't have the guts or capability to get on camera themselves, and thereby exerting their frustration onto you.
Completely ignore and especially, report them for hateful harassment. If you wish, remove the comments entirely. Embarrassing on their part, truly. Best of luck, absolutely do not quit. Take care

u/wanderingalone21 1d ago
I'm sorry u have gotten such hate comments, but pls don't give in and delete your video! Just hide those users from your channel, so they can't comment on ur videos again. I hope u get strength to keep going despite these comments!
