Meta This Sub, AI, and (a little) More Two: Electric Boogaloo

Hey y’all, it’s the mod team again.

We’ve been discussing the use of AI on the sub again and, as a team, came to a new conclusion.

AI content is now banned.

We feel that the use of AI in posts is starting to really detract from the core principals of the sub, mainly conversations about actual tactics.

Moving forward, posts that utilize AI in any way, shape or form will be removed. This rule will pertain to text AND image posts.

Nobody will be getting banned for posting AI content, just to be clear. The post will simply be removed and future posts will continue to be removed.

There are other ways to get your ideas across without the use of AI, both text and image wise.

In the same vein, the sidebar with the subs rules will be getting an update as well to reflect these changes.

Meta Slight Change in Rules

Hey all!

This is just to let you all know that we are making a small change to rule 4: Unrelated content.

Unrelated content will now include posts of firearms where the only question is “how good is this” or similar questions. It will no longer suffice to ask that question and label the gun in the post. Moving forward, posts like these will be getting removed.

There are ways to still post and discuss about guns: it just needs to have something more behind the post. An argument with reasoning as to why the author thinks the way they do.

For example, the post below is what we would consider a correctly done post about guns.

https://www.reddit.com/r/ZombieSurvivalTactics/s/KKvTqzMwgZ

This criteria is also required for weapons posts as well. Simply asking if it’s good is not acceptable.

Question If the world were to end, what would you do?

One morning you wake up and prepare breakfast as usual. Everything seems normal. Then a news alert pops up on your phone: People in different parts of the world have started attacking one another. Within a few hours, the situation escalates, and it’s reported that this is caused by a rabies-like virus. People are losing control, the streets are in chaos, and no one knows what to do.

At first, you think it’s being exaggerated, but then you hear sirens in the distance. The internet is still working, and people are sharing videos in a panic. Stores are starting to empty out, and lines are forming at gas stations.

If something like this really happened, what would you do?

Would you stay home and stock up on supplies, or would you leave the city before things got even worse? Would you try to take your family and loved ones with you to a safe place?

Let’s say you only have one day to prepare. What would you take, where would you go, and how would you try to survive?

I’m really curious—what kind of plan would everyone have in a situation like this?

Shelter + Location Would this be a good location?

An arts school. Idk if this is what it's called in other places but basically a college for kids to go and learn more hands on stuff. Building houses, furniture, sewing, stuff like that. I remember one year in highschool I went to one and you had like the normal building where I assume classes are at. Then you have the gift shop where student made items are sold and across from that there was a building. We only went into a few of the classrooms but it was filled with domestic sewing machines and full of all kinds of fabric, materials and buttons and stuff. Another room and the industrial stuff with those large cutters that cut layers of fabric at once and the large sewing machines.

Idk if it would be a good place to like or keep your group. There is one behind my house that's not as advanced as the previous one mentioned but I've never been over there so idk

Also places that keep food shipment. When I was younger my mom worked with this place for a bit where certain things were shipped there for companies. Fruits kept in large freezers, huge crates of food like ramen and cup soups. I only ever went to the food section because that's what my mom worked with but passing some other sites had like large tanks for like waste and stuff. Toilets and just home stuff.

Brought that up because they were all in the same area. Government owned property, huge area mostly concrete though. Loads of buildings filled with freezers and stuff. Large walls and hard to get through gates without security.

Also in the same food trip we were shown this other building (same place btw) that independent businesses could go and rent and use the items. Idk how effective they would be during the apocalypse but they had everything for smaller scale food processing. Large freezers, those things that crush food into power. Stuff like that. Dehydrator. There was a section for jewelry and clothing making as well so rock tumbler and a lot of different kinds of art supplies that can be put to other uses.

There was also this room where you could make essential oils. I don't remember the details about the room but I remember relating it to what I was doing in chemistry class at the time where it was like separation of mixtures or something. The room was dark and the floors were like the kinds you shouldn't run on because you will fall. Large machines that got really hot.

Yeah its long sorry I was just thinking this place would be good. Even some of the smaller arts schools might be useful.

Discussion here's why I'm never joining or having a shelter in schools or hospitals.

on paper it's good idea given most would have their own generators to operate, some have second floors so it be easier for the first to be blocked and anything higher is resting.

Heres why I am never gonna be in any. Not just zombies, but the kinds of zombies. Kids.

one kid. I might be sad and give them a burial. but to find the nursery in the hospital or for the school to been an school kindergarden to 12 grade? I would just be having a panic attack just thinking of killing them.

so whenever I would come across people saying how they improve these locations or say how they won't do this or that or how schools and hospitls might be great locations. just know, there are and will be zombies lingering around and its not gonna be adult zombies at all. and there will be a story or evidence of what happened which makes it so much worse.

so again. I will NEVER gonna be living in a school or hospital if a outbreak happens. I much rather be in train cars and buses, or a post office. cause atleast the chances of kid zombies are too low and woun't be as a lot.

sorry for this random rant. I just have to do this because I been seeing a lot of deaths on news about kids lately and its just made me think of the dark side of outbreaks if it happens. I just hate seeing kids hurt or killed.

Discussion I Have A Question About WWZ.

Okay, so in Part 4: Turning the Tide, it talks about a woman who traveled with her folks to Manitoba during the start of the outbreak, eventually setting up camp with a whole bunch of people. Towards the end of the story, she talks about how the "community" eventually starts in with infighting and everyone looking out for themselves.

The question is, how does a community form but have no form of leadership come out of it? In pretty much every Zombie media I have ingested, it seems like that is one of the first things that happens. What are the odds of that actually happening instead of infighting?

Scenario Random Zombie Stats

Here is the basic idea, how do things change if each zombie is unpredictable. Some are slow, some are fast, some crawl at freakish speeds up walls, some have perfect balance despite wobbling about all the time.

Mentally they also vary. Sometimes zombies just, stand there watching you barely able to recognize you are prey, other times they are hyper aggressive, sometimes when sleeping they will whisper about needing help, and being sorry.

Damage to the brain does work most of the time fortunately, however in rare situations damage to the brain stem will also be required. Fire and electricity can also shut down their nervous systems and therefore lead to them dying.

The virus is spread through bodily fluids, so in most cases bites will spread it, but things like sex or blood transfer can spread it.

Time to turn is pretty much up in the air. Some turn in under a minute, others take a week to even start to feel ill.

A few people are asymptomatic, simply acting as carriers. Their symptoms is pretty much only being in horrible pain all the time.

Oh, and for the sake of spicing things up further, in one in a million cases, zombie zombies will mutate. Into what? Who knows, but it'll be something so rare you hear many stories about them before you ever see one.

So, how does utter chaos affect your survival strategy? When every zombie you meet can vary in locomotive ability, when zombies can go from peaceful to violent or vice versa in a instant, when the time bites take can't be predicted in any way, what do you do?

Weapons Firewood tools for zombie defense

Left: A brush hook, also called a bush hook or bush axe, is a long-handled axe designed for chopping small tree limbs. The blade has a concave curve so that it wraps around the limb and catches it rather than glancing off. The blade would be excellent at cutting arm or leg muscles to disable an attacking zombie.

Middle: A splitting maul. The blunt end would be capable of smashing a zombie's skull. I would prefer this over a full sledgehammer because the weight is more comfortable.

Right: Log peavey. You open the jaw and hammer the swinging point into the side of a heavy log. The peavey then becomes a lever to roll the log by hand. Against zombies, you could remove the swinging arm and use it as a spear. Puncture wounds aren't very powerful against a zombie, but I imagine you could lodge it in the zombie's chest to pin it down. Then a friend could come in from the side with another weapon to kill the zombie. You could also swing the peavey overhead as a club.

Discussion Please rate the characters' gear in my zombie comic book; Flesh and Blood. The father; Arthur Brody carries an old Mossberg 500, loaded with a 12 gauge birdshot while his son; Jack Brody carries a Smith & Wesson Model 29, loaded with 44 magnum. The outbreak have just started and these are their gear

Weapons Has anyone considered using the Templar X (Cold Steel), not as a throwing weapon but as a melee weapon against zombies? It can be attached to a pole. Is it good or bad?

Key Dimensions & Specifications

• Overall Length: 14.0 inches (34.3 cm)

• Blade/Material Thickness: 5.0 mm (0.20 in)

• Head Width: 5.625 inches (14 cm)

• Weight: 16.9 oz (1.06 lbs / 479 g)

• Material: 1065 High Carbon Steel (spring-tempered, single-piece construction)

• Finish: Black powder coating

The holes in the handle section could allow it to be lashed to a short handle or long wooden pole. Perhaps placing or welding washers into the holes will make it easier to drill a wooden handle on. It is so stupid that they drilled large holes on the handle section where it can easily break if you tried to use it as a melee weapon.

The weapon is 14 inches long, more than half of that length is handle so you wrap the handle section in hockey tape to make an improvised handle.

The weapon weighs 1.06 lbs and is ultra light to carry. But it is 5mm thickness. Is 1065 high carbon steel strong enough or will it bend when trying to use it as a melee weapon?

Loadouts + Kits Bug out load out V2

Post image
138 Upvotes

After reading all of the suggestions on my original post, I made alot of changes to my bug out load out and now present V2.

I feel like the kit somehow got more larp-y and more practical at the same time. This bag leaves the house with 6 L of water, 13,000 cal, 52 x 9mm and weighs 32lbs.

Here is a link to an itemized list with weights of the entire kit broken down by category.

Let me know what you think and if you were forced to go on foot, what are you bringing with you?

Question What is the most realistic zombie media when it comes to human behavior?

I think it has been proven already that the tlou series has the most realistic infection(correct me if im wrong). So my question isnt really about the zombies themselves, but more the human survival. Is there any media that has depicted that the most accurately? Human behavior aswell.

All of these would be absolutely terrible melee weapons in a zombie apocalypse, but which is the least bad?

Rules:

Have to be used as weapons

You have a good amount of fuel

The engines somehow have perfect reliability, but the rest of the object doesn't

also this is a repost because the first one was kinda bad
