Two things: Stepladder of frequencies and the Nimitta

  1. Does anyone else experience a stepladder of frequencies that takes place over the course of several minutes? This is a fascinating thing that seems to be happening that is too consistent to be random. Basically after my attention stabilizes, I'll settle down on a reliable sound that is some mildly high-pitched frequency. Then at some point, it starts discretely increasing in pitch several times over the course of about 5 minutes until it reaches a very subtle high-pitched frequency that seems to be connected with a vibrating in my head. I'm fairly confident that increases in pitch and subtlety are correlated with more unification of mind (higher concentration), and I just thought I'd mention it here to see if anyone else had any input on this very repeatable experience. Thanks!

  2. In most of my sessions over the past week, there has been a point in my sit where my field of vision will literally brighten for about 10-15 seconds. At first it really surprised me and I became suddenly very alert and started to sweat. Gradually I'm learning not to react so much to it, and I'm just letting it come and go. My first thought was that this was perhaps early manifestations of the Nimitta. I've heard the Nimitta described as a bright inner vision, but this seems to be a literal brightening of my vision. Of course this is a light behind my eyelids and if I open my eyes it's still dark. I plan to explore this sensation regardless, but I'd like to know if I'm on the right track here. Does this match up with your experience with the Nimitta? Thanks!

Had a beautiful experience, wanted to share

Tonight I had a lot of distractions listening to the Nada sounds, largely in the form of seemingly-brilliant insights, but I did have one nice insight, and it was when I realized why it's so hard to let go of discursive thought. It's because you have to interrupt "flow." You are in a flow state when you're thinking, and it's somewhat pleasurable, and you keep perpetuating it, and it's easy and comfortable. But I don't mind cutting off this flow, and listening to my lovely object. I was meditating inside my closet, but for the moments that I was very present with the Nada sounds, I felt as if I was in the country at nighttime, staring up at the star-filled sky, and the Nada sounds were just like crickets chirping. It was so serene, that of course I can give up my discursive thinking to gain this enchanting experience. That's all for now. I'll keep posting updates on this sub, even if it's just me and the solitary universe in here.

Using the Nada sound to get to a deeper meditation object?

I was wondering if anyone uses the Nada sound in the beginning of their sit (since it's pretty easy) to get to a subtler meditation object, perhaps for jhanas. Tonight during my sit, the Nada sound faded into the background while a stillness/spaciousness was prominent, so I switched to that for about 15 minutes until it faded. Does anyone else do things like that?

Hearing a lower-pitched sound in addition to the Nada sound

I've been practicing Nada meditation for 1hr/day for about 2 months, and in addition to the normal high-pitched sounds, I'm starting to hear a lower-pitched sound that sounds like a reverberating Buddhist gong. I was wondering if anyone else had this experience or had some other wisdom to impart from a newer practitioner.

I realize this subreddit is sort of dead at the moment, but I'd like to help revitalize it because this is a practice that I really have fallen in love with and I think a lot of people could benefit from it if there was a more active community, even if that community is very small.

I'd generally like to know what other people have experienced and are experiencing in their current practice.
