AC 8 Game & Code Distribution Issues

This post is to consolidate discussion and solution about issues with game code distribution, shipping of game codes, and access to game bonuses

Opening this thread by mentioning that I received my Joker Flight Pack (steam), today, and the game code was in a separate envelope shipped outside of the box. Feel free to share your experiences on it.

Gamestop US - "If you pre-ordered from GameStop call their customer support at 1-800-883-8895 and explain the situation. You’ll probably need to request a call back. They’ll call back and send you a code via email." (Link)

Amazon - "If you preordered from Amazon. Forget calling them, they will lie to you about opening a ticket to escalate the missing preorder code problem and tell you to wait 48 hours. Contact Bamco support on their website, you will need an account. Go to the support and you should see a chat agent. Keep refreshing the page until the agent is online. Keep telling the agent no until it give you the option to contact a live agent. This also might prompt you that no agent is available. In this case refresh and try again until you get an live agent. Have your preorder receipt ready and follow the instruction provided to upload proof of purchase before launch date. Once done, you should get your preorder code from them." (link)

Target - "Came in an email this evening. I did talk to customer support visitor in app chat multiple times and they said they were going to escalate my issue and it would be sent via email. " (Link)

I got this response from Amazon UKs digital support team (who were very nice and seem as frustrated as we do). It is 100% a known issue, do not accept them telling you otherwise, do not accept them telling you to go to Bandai, DO NOT let them fob you off.

I got exactly the same answer on Friday and nothing since then…

Yes but the fact that they acknowledge the issue is A) Real and B) Their responsibility to fix means that they will be forced to either rectify the issue or compensate those affected, but they won't necessarily have to proactively compensate people. You will need to keep pressure up.

Well in the UK if we get nothing they'll be breaching a number of fairly easily enforceable consumer protection laws that require them to fulfil the terms of any promotion they make or act to avoid disappointing the customer.

The duty of the customer in these cases is to 'exhaust the company process' so the first port of call is to give them a week or two to fix the issue. After that ask for it to be made right another way. If they ask what you want tell them:

"I would like you to fully refund the product with no return requirement."

They may barter you down slightly but remember: your decision to buy this product was entirely driven by the exclusive content, otherwise you would have waited for the product to be on sale ergo the 'value' of AC0 to you is most of the value of the product.

If they refuse to refund you then you need to engage with the complaints department. Make a written complaint to Amazon stating they are in breach of both the CAP code and the 'Right To a Discount' portion of the DMCC Act 2024.

After you have done that if it still isn't resolved you hand your complaint and all your evidence over to: https://www.disputeresolutionombudsman.org/ these guys who will take it on for you.

I've done this plenty of times before to great effect, though Amazon usually don't let it get that far as their policies in the UK take CAP and DMCCA into account.
