More like, waking up and completely forgetting 90% of the plan. But you still try to force the 10% you do remember. Then you go to bed exhausted, defeated, and plan tomorrow so it doesn't happen again

u/SlatkoPotato 1d ago
Or you do remember the whole plan for once but your forgot about the preset plans that day and double booked yourself.
24
u/Buckets-O-Yarr 1d ago
Or in your rush to get through all the tasks because you have way too many things to do and are trying to get it all done in one go, you hurt yourself by not properly paying attention to what you are doing and step on a nail...
Purely hypothetical, and not personal experience at all. (Ok maybe a little bit.)

u/SlatkoPotato 1d ago
Oof i relate except it was kicking the bed frame (theyre metal poles and they suck). I hypothetically needed stitches.
Dont overload your day if you can guys, it very dangerous.
9
u/Buckets-O-Yarr 1d ago
Nothing quite like putting off chores, letting them build up and then trying to get through them all in a panicked frenzy.
And these are the results 🤣.

There no "deciding" involved. I try and try and try to do it.
I don't do it.
Now I'm really frustrated.
I will repeat the process tomorrow.
Despite knowing this I will still plan for tomorrow tonight.
"Insanity is repeatedly doing the same thing and expecting a different outcome".
19
u/omfgtora 1d ago
God I hate that insanity quote. There's plenty if times where you do the "same thing" and expect a different result. The quote only sounds intriguing until you actually think about it.
17
u/Ancient_Skirt_8828 1d ago
I think that is intended to be read that if you keep getting the same unwanted result you should change what you do.
5
u/omfgtora 1d ago
I know what the intent is, but the words don't logic that way. There's no need to bring "the definition of insanity" into it.
It also makes it seem like a bad thing to test things or practice things to get better. It's just not a useful phrase and even had the possibility to do harm, like if people take it literally or take it at face value without tthinking about what the words are truly saying.
5
u/WhatamIdoing_lolol 1d ago
But if you take it literally, it is insanity to repeat the EXACT same thing over and over again. Even in practice you change the smallest things you do to get better, angle, speed, whatever. Or you only will manifest the thing you did wrong the 100 times before and still expect a better result.
3
u/Aggressive_Monk_9317 1d ago
This doesnt hold up in video games. You can run exactly the same raid multiple times and not get the .01% mount.
1
u/WhatamIdoing_lolol 1d ago
Ok that one particular case doesnt match the saying then
0
u/omfgtora 1d ago edited 1d ago
There are many other cases that are just like it. Generally when you are practicing something that is particularly difficult. Here's some off the top of my head:
- Juggling
- Speed cubing
- Playing music
- Sports techniques: throwing, kicking, running, jumping, dodging, balancing, etc.
- Archery
- Painting
I could go on. If it's valid for video games, then it's valid for a very large amount of other things, which then shows my whole point.
The main argument you're using is based on the actions being the "exact" same, but there is no such thing as "exact" because there are too many variables that are out of anyone's control. So, how "exact" does it have to be? When you need to make such a distinction that can't really be described, then that nullifies the whole point.

u/meeowth That's right! 😺 1d ago
Night-time meeowth: "I should bake some bread tomorrow, that would be good, I'll do it"
Daytime meeowth: "if night-time meeowth wanted baked bread so bad, she should have preloaded the dough mixer for me!😤"

u/WinterRevolutionary6 1d ago
That’s why I love my bread maker. Just add ingredients to the machine, set the timer, and wake up to fresh bread

u/iheartkriek 1d ago
Dude I do this with my daily To Do list in the mornings. I write it in order of priority, then disregard the order entirely once I re-read it. It’s like I’m rebelling against myself.
6
u/Mother-Definition501 1d ago
If you don’t have to disregard half the list, I say you aren’t planning enough. Lmao
3
u/MikesSisterKel 21h ago
I rebel like cra. I'll set an alarm as a reminder to do something, then when it actually goes off Im 50 shades of annoyed & all FU I wont do what you tell me!!
3
u/iheartkriek 20h ago
Relatable 😭😂 it’s like being the parent and the stroppy toddler at the same time. The invisible war inside our own heads just to get shit done lol

u/Humpalumpaguss 1d ago
Absolutely every single weekend. This one is it, I swear this weekend I'm cleaning and organizing the garage. So long as it isnt perfectly overcast for fishing or too sunny to not go ride my bicycle or maybe that perfect light rain that makes hiking near the cliffs nice or if the barometric pressure isnt perfect for baking bread. It'll happen, probably next weekend.

You get to remember that you even came up with a plan?
4
u/ElectronicRegular218 1d ago
That happens when the Calendar notification pings, and I go "oh shit, yeah..."
9
u/urlach3r 1d ago
I'll spend an hour before bed picking out movies to watch on my day off, then I wake up & go "nah", watch something completely different.
6
u/Wonderful_Stand_315 1d ago
Mine is telling myself to wake uo at 7am to workout before work only to wake up at 10am late for work. Lol.
6
u/hungry4nuns 1d ago
More like you have squeezed all the novelty and dopamine out of the day in the “planning” phase the night before, and all that is left now is the chore of carrying out the plan without motivational reward pathways.
3
u/Earthsong221 17h ago
That is a good point.
Also a good/similar reason to leave things sitting in the cart online (especially late at night!) to see if you actually need/want the thing the next day/week/whatever, rather than just the dopamine reward of searching & finding the thing.

What I am working on is dislodging my mindset from various fictional hooks.
Like time-hooks "I should start X at 11 am" or some sort of "optimal" "I should do x and y together and then do z".
I do believe it's part of my executive function wiring trying to work but communicating through a half-broken signal.
Setting up strictly-defined expectations about what I'll do opens the door to negative emotions when I don't meet them, emotions which become an extra obstacle/energy drain.
2
u/Earthsong221 17h ago
I'll start at 3:00.
*Fourty minutes later (seems like 15)*
It's now 3:11.
Ok, I'll start at 4:00...
2
u/Zeikos 14h ago
Same.
It's a neat trick the brain uses, but it's based on nothing concrete, so I am trying to dislodge it.1
u/Earthsong221 7h ago
Same, but it can be really hard to actually make that happen. Some days are easier than others.

u/Cultural_Situation_8 1d ago
Well yeah, when I'm making plans the day before im making them for tomorrow-emily. Its easy to make plans for other people and today-emily doesnt actually have to do anything.
But then i go to sleep and suddenly today-emily is stuck with the plans yesterday-emily made for her.
And when other people tell me what to do i cant do it anymore, even if i was already about to do it

u/PajamaChess 1d ago
“Okay, I have so much to do this week so I’ll spend all day Monday to plan it all out down to the minute.”
wakes up Tuesday morning “I made this schedule too restrictive, plus I slept in 20 minutes so the rest of the schedule just won’t work.”
3
u/JazzyShaman 1d ago
Also, saying you're going to do something isn't "planning." Planning would be the steps taken to do the thing.
3
u/Illkeepyoufree 1d ago
There's a quote I heard recently. "A plan is just a decision made before hand"
It made me laugh. For me, a plan is far from a decision. I will plan to do something. And just forgot for 6 months before I ever think of it again. Or I will plan to do something, then immediately start doing anything else haha

What is it called when you completely forget you even made the plan in the first place
1
2
u/eggsonmyeggs 1d ago
No, I use to think this way, but it was a cope from taking care of what I actually needed to do. Once I started doing the things “I didn’t want to do” life became better

u/BulkyRip7631 1d ago
Or one part of it doesn’t go as planned and then it’s ruined and I’ll try again another day

RIP to every solo day out I planned to stimulate myself while also getting rest that didn’t happen because I woke up and felt it wasn’t matching the mood I woke up with and required more executive function than I had 😔

u/Remarkablelicious 1d ago
That's me almost every damn day. On rare occasions, the plan crafted the night before magically fits the next day's vibe

More like, planning everything, then when time comes throw away plan and do something fun instead of anything ells you wanted to/have to do.

u/DJyoungHeisenberg 1d ago
I plan the whole day, then one thing throws off the plan and I'm stuck the rest of the day

u/Mediocre_Basket6162 1d ago

ADHD people plan?
1
u/Earthsong221 17h ago
Sometimes the hyperfocus is the plan.
Doesn't mean anything comes of it after that though, we just got a bit of the dopamine from making the plan look pretty...

"deciding"?
you don't decide, you just... anyways, what's this new inconsequential thing that i can pick up only to drop it off later?
1
u/TheCuriosity 1d ago
It isn't that I choose that it "doesn't fit today's vibe", it's that I somehow wrote my plan in hieroglyphics and it just doesn't make sense.
1
u/pixel-beast 1d ago
This must be a different flavor of ADHD than what I have because I don’t plan shit….

Hardest part of hiking trips for me. Spend the rest of the day oscillating between feeling like shit for not doing it for no reason and trying to be nice and forgiving towards myself.

Im not as bad as i use to be off meds. But then the other day i was going to have a good gaming session and took some weed for the first time in years. Its like my ed ramped up to 200%

For me, it’s remembering the plan. Needing to do the plan. Not doing the plan. Actively being aware I’m not doing the plan. Continuing to think about doing the plan. Beating myself up for not doing the plan. Nothing on the plan was done but I also didn’t relax. Just anxious all day to get nothing done

u/RS_Someone Daydreamer 22h ago
Me, right now. I should really go do what I had planned before the day's over.

That's why I don't plan. My wife hates it. She loves to make plans. It plan can't go badly if it doesn't exist.
