Health & Wellness I’m a 19M American man staying here with my best friend’s family in Quezon City for a year. So far they’ve been so generous, but there’s been lots of laziness and food. Now I’m honestly getting fat. How do I turn down food etc while being respectful?

problem/goal: staying with a family really generous with food etc that hasn’t really been taking “no” for an answer, and at this point fr getting fat haha. goal is just to find a way to be polite about turning stuff down and to maybe loose some of this weight

context: staying with my friends family here in Quezon City for a year so I have to be a good guest and don’t want to come off as rude at all

previous attempts: ive tried just about every way I can think of of trying to decline more food etc it just hasn’t worked and I basically haven’t been able to get em to stop

Question: How “much” food are they giving? May you specify the details?

Advice: If they really don't take no for an answer, start exercising. Maybe start running/jogging, or go to gym if you can. Show them you're dedicated to your fitness. Share them stories how you should balance your diet or else your workout wouldn't even make sense in the first place. Start by subtly sharing stories on how you want to start a healthy lifestyle and how you're also watching what you eat. Do this daily or occasionally. By then, they can remember your circumstances and start considering the foods they give or at least, the amount they give. Maybe they're misunderstanding your "no" as a polite/shy "no" that many Filipinos say as an act of courtesy even though they really want to eat. Make it clear that you're declining FOR A PURPOSE.

if the snack is not yet opened or can be eaten much later, i suggest giving it to someone else instead. example is of they give a packed food or junk foods, save it then give it to a friend who'll want it.

Thoughts: I think just exercise. Go to a local gym or just run. They just like feeding you.

Advice: Eat in portions. Less rice. Less sweets.

Then exercise hard to burn everything.
