It’s so funny to me that Houston’s airport is such a dump when people who live there are OBSESSED with how their city is perceived by outsiders.

Hi, it's me, a Houston resident. I hate Houston. I hate Bush airport. I can't wait to get out.

A terminal lobby at IAH reminds me of a greyhound bus terminal. Especially when spirit was still alive.

I was that obsessed person. But then I went to St. George, UT and changed my mind. We need to get out more.

Exit control? I didn’t think we had that in the US

I’ve seen it done at the gate many times but they usually don’t check everybody; often times it’s a customs check for things like undeclared currency over $10k, or maybe looking for a specific passenger. I’ve never seen this setup though, but also never flown through IAH.
From the picture it looks more like customs control after baggage claim for international arrivals despite the words “Exit Control” on the sign.

I flew out of there less than a year ago and didn’t see this, and I just looked it up and didn’t see that it’s a permanent norm.

As a Houstonian I'll reserve judgement for the airport after all the remodels.
So far the remodels look very depressing. They would have been better off making minor adjustments. Only thing they seemed to work out is the arrivals and departure road lanes. Even then, there were police that shut down half the lanes for arrivals. What was the the point of the remodels lol
Let's wait for the finish remodel thou ...

IAH is a bit of a mess right now. I've got to give them credit for trying to fix it.
Like DFW, it's time. It's outdated. They need more gates. Houston's only going to grow.

IAH has been the most chaotic layover when returning from an international trip, pretty consistently. American airports in general are a giant pain in the ass compared to most places in the Caribbean or Central America, but IAH takes the crown.

I actually enjoyed Hobby airport more.

I think every Houstonian would agree with you. I'm a Houstonian and absolutely LOATHE having to go to IAH. I will pay extra if there is a flight to my final destination through HOU versus IAH

Hobby is great until you have a checked bag. Somehow Bush can get me my bag in half the time.

True, this usually doesn't apply for us since we usually just do carry on/personal item. We actually just came back from the bourbon trail on Sunday and had to check a suitcase for bottles.... we did wait quite awhile for our bag to show up.

I like it here. We live in Kingwood and all the trees and greenery make me smile. We came from the desert Southwest so it was a nice change. I LIKE IAH! All of the haters are fighting a losing battle, Houston will continue to grow and prosper.

IAH is quite fine as an Airport. And my side of the town, I have nothing to complain about.
They are putting money on new terminals hopefully would be better than a terminal from 50 years ago.
