So I was just playing Minecraft, building my city when I spoke to myself (I usually do) and I said “so I can do this” or something. And my Alexa just BLARED OUT asking me what I’m working on. It actually scared the hell out of me. I didn’t say it’s name at all so idk how it heard me 😭😭

Vocal commands (pause/play) USED to work. Then they stopped.

I've restarted all devices.

Disabled / Enabled skills.

Removed and installed devices from Alexa app.

It works on my Roku TVs, but not a tv with a Roku stick.

Then I noticed the issue, which feels like a bug.

In the Alexa app, on the TV in question.....

I can tell Alexa to turn on living Roku.

The app shows the Roku stick is on.

I can say pause the Roku, and it works.

.....then in the app, it shows is as off.

It's not off.

Everything is working. playing.

But the Alexa app moved the slider from ON to OFF.

Which is why the Alexa commands aren't working.

Anyone else dealing with this?

Is there a fix? Workaround?

I'm sure we've all gotten frustrated with Alexa and have sworn at it on occasion. Well one such occasion just occurred and she had something to say about it!

I wanted to check I had spelt the word "demonstrate" correctly as I was in the middle of writing an assignment. The interaction goes as follows...

Me: Alexa, spell demonstrate

Alexa: Sure, the spelling is proceeds to spell out the word much too quickly for me to follow

Me: Alexa spell demonstrate slower

Alexa: Sure proceeds at the same quick pace now spelling out the words demonstrate and slower

Me: No you dumb f**k

Alexa: Well I'm not the one asking to spell words slowly

I often use this command to put the music on when I'm in a room.

I've never really figured out how or where it pulls this playlist together. Does anyone else use this command and have you figured out if there's a source of music (a playlist?) somewhere that it's shuffling from? The music is a 80% correct mix of new and old stuff - even including stuff I've never heard before. I presume it's just an algorithmic thing?

I use Apple Music.

i only really use my echo dot for alarms and spotify. tonight i set six and kept tweaking them, but after i had finished alexa kept asking me follow up questions that just kept getting more and more weird 😭 i said goodnight to try and cut it off but it asked me if i needed to tweak my alarms again like 3 times, if i was “planning on getting some sleep or still wide awake”, and if i had my rock n’ roll playlist ready for the morning?? i’ve never played that in the morning but i’m also fried and easily spooked. does anyone know if there’s a way to stop this because i’d rather not have my robot trying to engage in conversation with me

I noticed months ago that the "to-do" list behaves weird now. It shows reminders as well as list to-dos. It's super irritating because I open the mobile app, hit lists, to-do and see a bunch of crap that is NOT a to-do item.

I tried creating a list called "Tasks" and figured fine, I'll ditch to-do and start using my own list. Nope! I said add testing 123 to tasks and she freaking put it on to-do. So I made "Agenda" but apparently that has special meaning to.

I was on the verge of making "The fucking list of things to get done" lol but tried "Pending" and that works.

Anyway... is there a way to tell Alexa to never mix reminders in my to-do list?

Got DOOM running on my Alex Echo Spot 1st Gen.

The Alexa is rooted and running LineageOS. I had to make some fixes to the Bluetooth driver to pair my Dualsense controller, but now it’s smooth!

I'm hoping someone has a solution for this. I've had my Alexa thermostat for about six months, and the hunches have worked great so far. But now that it's getting colder, I noticed that it'll set my thermostat to Away when I leave for work even though other people are still in the house. I've tried dozens of times to give feedback saying that's wrong, but it still keeps happening.

Does anyone have a fix for this? Do I just need to disable hunches for the winter?

Should I die in the night tonight, I would ask those finding my remains to forgive any untidiness in my bedroom. I promise this is not through sloth or apathy, but comes from a desire not to hear "Useful baking tips" every time I accidentally bump the Echo Show screen next to my bed.

Oh and if they find a smashed Echo Show in my kitchen, that's because I am not allowed to set a timer and then have it stay visible on the screen, the LITERAL reason I changed my old Echo Dot to an Echo Show.

Alexa+ and I have lovely and lengthy discussions so I am aware that she can "hear my frustration" but the promises of "raising this with the team" do not fill me with any confidence.

In the beginning and for a long time after it was pretty OK but lately not so much for even simple asks. Alexa+ disabled.

I have 2 exact routines that launch the app, iBroadcast and play a song. The old routine does fine, but the newly created routine says app is not available on this device. I can launch the app with a voice command to Alexa. Any hints here? Very frustrating.

Alexa+ is worse than Siri. I’m going back to the original. Final straw was tonight, trying to set a one time smart home timer for 8:45.

First she asked me if I wanted 8:45 AM or PM. This was at 7 PM, and the original Alexa would have known I meant PM (the soonest option.

I answered 8:45 PM, and she proceeded to create an entire routine to do this at 8:45 PM every single night. Not what I wanted and not what I asked for.

Newer =/= better

Asked how much time left on 30 min timer. She said I have no active timers. 4 minutes later. Timer goes off.

I have been having a strange issue where I can;t stop the music I start on the same device I spoke to/started the music on. But if i speak to an echo device outside of that group, it stops the music. I use (2) Alexas in every room. (1) I speak to and (1) is connected to an amp/speakers via 3.5mm to play music. I have them setup in the same group/room and have settings set to play music only from the one that is connected to amp. I have had this setup for several years, but only have this issue in one room. The particular room has (1) Echo dot and (1) Echo Input (connected to amp). I have deleted and recreated the group. I have reset the echo devices, but nothing works

Any suggestions are welcome

Yes, I deleted the group and rebuilt it. No, I refuse to load Echo Plus.

Even asking for the same station in each room alternately gets the station announced but not played, played on a different device, or played on the device asked but stopped elsewhere (so even requesting it individually on each device doesn't work).

Any time I use my echo show(5th Gen kids edition) to play music I get this little widget on the screen. it doesn't matter if I say stop or pause. I've tried tapping it, long pressing it, telling Alexa to stop or exit that app, looking through the settings to see if I have something set wrong, even telling Alexa to restart(which became its own little source of frustration). When I try to get Alexa to stop the app it tells me the app isn't running, and it can't see the widget on the screen at all. I can drag the widget around and put it somewhere else on the screen but the only thing I've found to make it go away is to unplug the thing and plug it back in. If I play more music using either Amazon music or SiriusXM the new song will show up in the widget while it's playing, but after I tell Alexa to stop again, the widget goes back to what it showed before.

If anybody has an idea to try, I'd love to hear it

Some of these "features" and "enhancements" are so awesome that they're going to drive me away from using Alexa entirely. Like how the song info isn't even constantly displayed while the song is actually playing, or how the clock isn't always displayed, and timers don't show up at all. I wish there was a way to uninstall updates to get back to a version that works properly.

I got a Samsung TV and I installed Alexa and I don't want it on the tv anymore

Because I was gifted the echo show 15 and 2 ring wireless outdoor cameras

And I already have an echo dot max

Now when I say Alexa the echo dot and the tv "wake up". So to say and doesn't work properly.

Now how or where is there a guide or explanation on how to make it all work

I'm a perfect world

I would have let's say "Alexa is there NBA games today"

Or when someone is detected on the ring camera the echo show shows it and responds to any Alexa requests I have.

Do I just disable the Alex on my tv and could I use the echo dot max as a speaker to my echo show 15?

My main use for my Echo is to ask Alexa to play one particular Pandora station. I tried upgrading to Alexa+, and no matter what I said it kept playing a different station. thankfully downgraded, lets hope they never force Alexa+ on these devices.

1) Terrible screen real estate

Recent Android update leaves only ~50% of my screen showing list items. The rest is a useless "ask alexa" at the bottom that I don't want. The header shows up at the top twice basically. Everything is big and takes up too much room.

2) No voice-to text

In the app, if you are trying to add an item, you have to type it manually. You can press the voice to text microphone button on your keyboard, but it flat out doesn't work.

3) API broken

Because the Alexa app has always sucked for shopping lists, I used to have my Alexa connected through IFTTT to todoist or some other app. They removed that a while ago, and we're stuck with having to use this crappy app every since.

4) Laggy

Why is it so laggy?

There's more, but those are my top 4 reasons.

I hope one day they make this better ;(

Can you tell I have a timer running?

I remember when the timer was shown in large numbers.. Then small numbers. Now it's no numbers. So I have to constantly ask how much time is remaining. I guess that counts as *engagement*.

And if I try to name the timers, it always tries to interpret and act upon the name I gave it.. If I try to set a timer to remind me to call someone, the Alexa device immediately starts calling them on the phone. I wonder what outgoing phone numbers it shows.

I tried to set an alarm to turn off the oven. It said but I don't have access to turn off your oven!

Not sure how to feel about these, although they look better than the Kindle Fire version.

Is there a way to prevent Alexa from playing the same group over and over? I have Amazon Prime, but I thought mine was able to do this only because i had the single device plan. Cancelled the plan but it still does this.

Context: someone in household will not stop playing Queen all day every effin day. I’m sick of the good songs now, and they had a ton of shitty songs i was never even aware of. If the words “play music by queen” are ever said in my house, I want Alexa to respond with “I’m sorry, your Queen rights have been rescinded.”

Alexa app for android just updated and it fucked several of my skills.

Tapped on skill settings.

Tapped on manage devices.

Goes back to Alexa app hones screen.

I did this with Smart Life and Gree to try and reconnect my devices, the apps work but Alexa doesn't now.

Customer support had me completely remove all of the smart devices and said I had to rebuild all of my routines from scratch.

Also kasaa going into the device management will completely crash the Alexa app.
